I agree. Especially about the Vit D. I participated in a clinical study involving light therapy while I was pregnant with baby #3. It was quantifiably helpful.

OP, the Boundaries books (Cloud and Townsend) have been helpful to me. And therefore to our family :001_smile:

We bought our son a 2004 Outback when he got his license. He had it four months before he called us early one morning. He had hit a deer in his way to school. The car was totaled, but he believes it saved it life. He even write about the accident for his college admission essay. He was applying for automotive engineering. We bought another Outback for him, he named it Lenny, and we all love it. It's 2002, but it's our 'good' car.

Some people use "sewist" as an alternative. Don't know that I love it, but it's not ambiguous.:001_smile:

Does anyone need baby clothes?
juelle replied to melissad2's topic in General Education Discussion Board
A family farm business in the town next to ours is asking for donations of baby stuff to take to a reputable charity on Staten Island this Friday (11/16). There's a great need there. I'll pm you with the address. -
Advice re: family trip to England this January?

York. A couple of hours north on the train. Roman walls, the Shambles, Yorvik Viking Museum, the Minster. Love, love, love. Yorkshire has a different feel from the south. -

6th Grade Math, at the end of my rope...

Make sure he has eaten something with protein before doing math. My ds will melt down and look helpless at the simplest problem if his blood sugar is low. Boys are growing REALLY fast through this age. -
Do your children collect anything?

Ds11 has a hubcap collection. Snow-melt time is prime hubcaps season. It's not easy to store the things. The rafters of our garage resemble a medieval hall decked with shields. -
Protein shakes for teen boys?
juelle replied to Cricket's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Ds17 grew 6 inches when he was 11. He would cry from growing pains. He simply couldn't eat enough protein to keep up. So we started using Designer Whey (cheapest on Vitacost). We talked a lot through that time about possible future pressure from baseball coaches to bulk up. We talked about his body type, his genetic heritage, the need to be healthy in the face of the pressure. Now he and ds11(baseball and football) only use the DW when they feel they need a boost, or they have to play at times when they can't eat enough beforehand. Probably once or twice a week. We haven't had too much pressure from coaches, but we're not quite in the situation your ds is in. -
Sandy updates ... How are you faring?
juelle replied to Cindy in C-ville's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Our town had the highest wind-speed gust in CT, and the sea water came over the Boston Post Road at several points. Whole neighbourhoods were flooded. We live 10 miles inland. Power was out for 36 hours for us, but the vast majority of our town is still out and trees/lines are down. Schools are closed for the week :-) We had two lovely evenings playing charades by candlelight. But I'm very thankful to be running the washing machine today. -
Praying for her, and that she'll continue to improve. Thank you so much for the update. Love to you, too.
