  1. Loseit app also has a tool for recipes where you plug in each ingredient and the amount of the same for the recipe. You decide how many servings is in recipe. So for example, for soup or other dish, I measure out how much I would eat and then figure out how many of these servings are in the recipe to input in the app. For example, we all use the same size bowl for soup and there is 3 of us. When I go to put the rest in the frig, I measure out how many bowls are left in the soup to give me the total number of servings.
  2. You may want to give up the sweeteners in the coffee, tea, and oatmeal. I think it really adds up and causes more cravings. I gave them up and got used to it fairly easily even though I did not relish the idea of coffee or tea without sugar. This is not to say that I never have sweets. It is just that I am trying to only have them occasionally like 1-2 month or less. Sweets and too many carbs cause me to be very hungry. Have you been tested for pre-diabetes, insulin resistance via a glucose tolerance test with insulin and glucose levels checked over several hours before and after a high glucose drink? Or a glycohemoglobin test? These conditions cause hunger and cravings and are common with obesity. Metformin is a safe decades old drug used for pre-diabetes and has the added bonus of curbing cravings and hunger. There is a lot of research on it now as a life extender so to speak in fact. Other studies have shown that its use in pre-diabetes can reduce the risk of diabetes dramatically. It is worth asking to be tested and treated if needed.
  3. I started with a low carb diet for about 2 weeks and now eat a moderate carb diet with protein at every meal. I do have an old fashioned oats with high fiber hot cereal, flax, and chia seeds with an egg mixed in every morning with whole milk. I do have barilla plus pasta, rice in limited amounts and occasional sprouted or other whole grain hearty bread. I have 1-2 fruits and veggies every day. Occasional plain whole milk yogurt with low sugar preserves. I don't eat after dinner unless really really hungry. I use lean cuisine several times a week. I also use premier protein drinks or bars occasionally. I eat almost no sugar to very little sugar. I got rid of artificial sweeteners except for the ones in the premier protein. As for depression, you may want to inquire about buproprion since it curbs appetite a bit. It does make you a little jittery first week or so so you may want to ask about starting on low dose such as bupropion 100 mg sustained release tablet. Use a bright light therapy light every morning- I put it for breakfast.
  4. An average amount for weight loss for women is around 1400-1500 calories a day but it really depends upon your weight. As for how many calories you burn, I would ignore this since these features are wrong. Also, many folks assume they can eat extra if they burned off a lot of calories which is often way overestimated on these devices and end up not losing weight or gaining as a result. Don't get me wrong some folks do burn a lot of calories and can eat more but an article I read said that for most folks that is not the case. http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/ask-the-dietitian-should-i-eat-back-my-exercise-calories/ I totally ignore how many calories I burn and just track exercise as a motivator. I only eat extra when I really feel hungry.
  5. I have not seen any slow cookers with stainless liner. They just have stainless outside and the liners are ceramic or teflon coated aluminum:( I love my IP!
  6. Are you able to travel to John Hopkins for an evaluation for possible food challenge? We were told son had severe peanut allergy based on skin test results by 2 different allergists and that said he would have to avoid nuts the rest of his life. JH evaluated his history did RAST blood test and based on those results gave food challenge and gave green light to eat nuts. even with mild tongue itch or a couple hives on face or slight abdominal discomfort which disappeared after 40th dose or so. If you are not close to JH, perhaps they could refer you to someone else. JH was covered by insurance too but check with your insurance. The OIT list does have quite a few doctors around the country too.
  7. According to our allergist, all peanut/nut allergies are serious and that you cannot predict whether a reaction will be mild or fatal. So I would not have other little kids eating peanuts/nuts around your child especially since little kids tend to drop and smear food all over. That being said, I would try to go to John Hopkins to get an evaluation since we were told prior to John Hopkins that our kid would never be able to eat peanuts/nuts by 2 different allergists. John Hopkins gave the RAST blood test and based on that gave a food challenge which is the gold standard. They said he could eat nuts/peanuts. He did have very mild itch or a hive or two the first 40 or so times and then it went away. There is also a facebook page on oral immunotherapy (OIT) that I would look into on doctors who actually desensitize those with food allergies. As for general allergy info foodallergy.org is the best.
  8. I recommend agetting an assessment and also relaxing a little. I found watching Between the Lions with my ds very helpful and fun. I would often sound out the words too when the show did and even used closed captions for the show and all shows as long as the captiosn were correct and not too distracting. Many libraries may have their videos or you can check the schedule on PBS or see if Amazon or Hulu or Netflix has these. You can see some episodes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF3vH15xsvE Here is specific info on the show: http://pbskids.org/lions//parentsteachers/program/ Then there are some fun interactive phonics programs on online that may be more fun and game like to help her learn which my kid also enjoyed: https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/clicknread/?c=1 https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/explode-the-code-online/?c=1 This site also has a lot of great info and resources: http://www.thephonicspage.org/Phonics%20Lsns/phonicslsnslinks.html Lastly, I read to my kid everyday and occasionally I would sound out words to him while I read. I think making it fun may be the key here. By making it more like games she may be willing to spend more time with it.
  9. So do the hard boiled eggs keep well in an insulated lunch box and ice pack for 6 hours or so? Also, I would love to make him chicken salad or egg salad sandwiches but am worried that it will become soggy. Any tips?
  10. Can he do neilmed saline nasal rinses? My son finally agreed and it makes a difference with a cold and allergies. You should use bottled water and zap for 30 seconds or so to warm and then add saline packet. Test temperature on your wrist to ensure it is not too hot. Wash afterwards with hot soapy water and sterilize in microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes before re-use. Just google neilmed. he has a detailed webpage with video and written instructions. Also, ask your doctor too.
  11. As for your hair being too dark, I would definitely try lighter colors such as dark blonde mixed half and half with light brown color. Or just try the dark blonde color. It is easier to make hair darker if you do not like then to make it lighter. Also, when your grey starts showing again, just do the roots and not all over since your hair will get darker and darker if you keep coloring already colored hair. I found good videos on how to color your roots with a bowl and brush on youtube that were great. lastly, you could be daring and go grey like I did:) Many women rock grey hair! I was sick of doing roots every 4 weeks and was not satisfied that my hair would pick up a red hue despite using colors with ash tone in them. My hair would always look reddish no matter if I went to expensive salons or did myself and I think red tones don't look good on me. it was a long process but now the color is 99% gone and I am happy with it. Plsu the texture of my hair has improved dramatically.
  12. Your library may have the Great Course Biology to borrow. You can buy it on sale too.
  13. Homeschool Buyers Co-op sells Thinkwell which has a full Biology Course. It goes on sale every 6 weeks or so.
  14. Is the consistency of baked oatmeal like normal oatmeal? Well anyway, I have been doing 1/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats mixed with 1/.4 cup oat bran, 1 tablespoon of soaked chia seeds, 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed, 1 cup or so of water, and one egg all mixed together in a big bowl. Then I nuke in the microwave for 3 minutes and then 2 minutes so there is no spillover. I use a very large pyrex bowl (mixing bowl size) to do this. If I use smaller pyrex bowl then I do 2 minutes and then 30 seconds times 6 for total of 5 minutes. For my kid, I throw in a handful of raisons and handful of sunflower seeds to cook with it too. Then I top with pinch of cinnamon and1 teaspoon of sugar and milk. For me I just use cinnamon and milk. Yum!
  15. It would be nice if Congress acted on zika alone especially since the President and the CDC have been asking for extra funding but they dragged their feet when asked by trying to tie zika funding to other things like budget cuts and defunding Obamacare :cursing: Something an urgent as zika needs to be dealt with alone without politics!
  16. Speaking of female reporters' outfits, it always annoys me to no end about the mini skirts and stilletto heels which to me look very unprofessional. I have always suspected that network news has reuqested of female reportors to look like vixens instead of professional Walter Cronkite like reporters. Women can look very beautiful and sexy and professional in knee length skirts and 2 inch pumps IMHO! Think Audrey Hepburn.
  17. In regards to tipping we have not done so yet and I have tried to read up on it. I believe I read a more recent article on uber increasing the base fare to better compensate drivers I think in a few areas. I will have to try to find it to post. I normally tip workers who are supposed to be tipped and hope to have more clarity:)
  18. In regards to uber versus taxi, in many respects uber is safer IMHO since you have the driver's licence plate number, name, and make of car as well as pick up and drop locations recorded on your smart phone and your account which can also be accessed via computer unlike taxi cabs. Definitely use it on a smart phone. Definitely have her check license, make of car, and driver's name before getting in and have her sit in back seat. We have used multiple times with no problems.
  19. My kid does not have same facial features but was constantly having to readjust the vanquisher model. We got these and it is much better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q46PZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  20. I have not read all of the posts but honestly I would have him be looking for another job that is more convenient. Are jobs scarce there? If not, then I would have him quit that job and get another job pronto if feasible. I second the uber. Does your area have uber pool which is cheaper?
  21. I see:) I have someof hers that use weights while walking which are great. In regards to the name the Firm there was a great video series that you can still find from the 1990's that used light weights and aerobics combined and it was a killer series;) They did all of the usual weight lifting moves and then some in such a way that it was more like circuit training and you definitely ended up in the aerobic zone: Here is one of the classic Firm videos which I love: http://www.collagevideo.com/products/the-firm-crosstrainer-strength http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-body-sculpting-basics-vol-1 http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-aerobic-workout-w-weights-vol-3 http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-low-impact-aerobics-vol-2 http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-abs-hips-amp-thighs-vol-5 http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-boomers-with-jayne-poteet-vol-6 http://www.collagevideo.com/products/classic-firm-time-crunch-workout-vol-4 These videos date me but they are not dated in any way and are very thorough workouts. If you are a beginner you could always modify by using no weights or one pound weights. I also walk in place when I need to rest a bit during a workout. I have ordered quite a bit from Collage videos with no problems. They have a great selection of exercise videos. I would say that Volume 1, 2, and 3 are my favorite Firm videos of the above but the ones above are all good.
  22. Any links? My ds has had GI issues such as excessive burping, constipation, and weird transient rashes and a history of resolved nut/peanut allergies. We are currently a few days in on dairy free to see if that helps the burping and it seems to be better. Any links on gluten free and FODMSP (sp?)? Any ideas for what one would eat for each meal on one of these diets without buying expensive gluten free stuff?
  23. Does he tolerate oatmeal that is not specified to be gluten free?
