  1. I would definitely look into seeking a doctor's advice. In addition, I would consider asking your doctor if it is ok to for your ds to take vitamin d3 and fish oil. I have read that vitamin d3 has an impact on many body systems including the brain and many north americans are quite deficient in vitamin d3. In fact, initially a doctor may ok your son to take up to 50,000 units per week of vitamin d3- blood levels can be done. Fish oil-not cod liver oil though- has an impact on many body systems as well. I have read that higher doses of fish oil may be beneficial for brain and cardiovascular health- just ask your doctor if it is ok to take. I would definitely also do light therapy as well. Just be sure to follow manufacture's directions. I, myself, have struggled with depression on and off for years. However, I have tried these things lately and they have made ahuge difference in my life. These are only my opinions but you can find medical literature to support these simple interventions. Lastly, it is important to assess whether your son is thinking of hurting or killing himself. If he is, you should also assess if if has any specific plans for doing so. If the answer if yes, then get help right away. :grouphug: Best wishes, priscilla
  2. Hello, Under my name it is listed as "Just Visiting." I would like to have this changed since I am not just visiting:001_huh: I am an avid reader of this message board and I am homeschooling my son. I am a new member since late last year. I could not find any directions on how to change this to some sort of "bee" like everyone else on the board or so it seems:001_huh: Any help would be appreciated.:001_smile::001_smile::001_smile: Thanks, priscilla
  3. Hello, I am thinking of using spelling workout but I am wondering about the word lists. How the words grouped? Are the words grouops by the same phonics/spelling rules such as rain, chain, gain, pain etc...? I think this sort of word grouping is very useful for my son. Are there any websites where you could preview a sample of these bokks? I appreciate any help. Thanks, pris:):):)
  4. I would check out webster's speller and any posts by ElizabethB on the topic. She also offers free phonics lessons on her website. Webster's speller can be found on DonPotter's website (just google) as well as numerous free phonics programs for downloading:):):) I hope this helps:001_smile: sincerely, priscilla
  5. I want to buy a comprehensive, stand-alone, grammar workbook that does not reqire a teacher's manual that is comaparable to Shurley's English. Is there such a thing? Or is Shurley's 400-plus page teacher's manual easy to use? I can only imagine Shurley's requiring tons of prep time:( I am hoping for a book on the 3rd grade level and up:) Thanks, priscilla:):)
  6. I am thinking of purchasing Singapore science and I am hoping for some feedback on the same. Also, which Singapore Science do you use. I would be purchasing 3rd grade level. Is it comprehensive? I appreciate your help.:):):)
  7. I would check out Elizabeth B.'s posts/website on this forum and do a search for Webster's Speller on this site as well. I just printed out a copy for my son and i am quite impressed. In addition, there are references to Don Potter's website or you can google the same. I found both sites to be very informative. Pris:)
  8. Does anyone have experience with the 2001 new Singaore Math versus the U.S. Standards Singaore Math (2008)? There is the singaporemath.com site that sells the U.S. standards edition and then there is this other site from singapore that sells the current 2001 Singapore math curriculum used in Singapore. The link is below: http://www.sgbox.com/newsingaporemaths.html I am just curious if the U.S. Standards edition from 2008 is comparable and just as thorough... The Singapore web site above makes one think that the U.S. editions are not comparable and perhaps not as good. Thanks, pris
  9. I purchased several DVD's from Model Me Kids which I found great. Also I purchased some social skills videos from teach2talk which I also founnd useful. My son is a very talkative, bright 6 year old who is a little socially awkward. He may have asperger's but we are holding off on a diagnosis since no specific therapies have been recommended and were told that it is very mild if it is there. I wish you well:)
