  1. I don't have teenagers yet so know nothing about the discounts or getting the license, but I know when we recently moved and had to get new licenses, I had to bring proof of insurance before they would issue it. I'm guessing that may vary by state and county, but I couldn't get the license without the insurance.
  2. Well Joanna is part Korean, so all of her kids are part Korean. I don't believe any are adopted. I know their style and show isn't for everyone, but I liked the first season or twos style. Lately the show hasn't been my favorite as I feel like they are trying too hard. I also don't like all the merchandising. I am interested in their target line, but I typically buy my farm style things locally and at better prices. I can't justify $100 pillows they sell at pier one, I don't buy their books and more than likely I won't buy something of theirs at target just because it's theirs (only if I like it).
  3. I've done this in different ways over the years. When mine were a bit younger and there were less of them, I'd do a date a week with each of my boys- so each week it was a different child. This worked well when it was just two kids and a baby (who didn't need the date). Our dates were simple. Sometimes running errand together like you mentioned or times something fun like mini golf or an ice cream out. Once our fourth was born and my third was older this got more difficult (especially since DH works a lot). Now with four who all want that attention and a fifth on the way, I tend to do this throughout the day, mainly at night. Each evening I try to spend that extra time with each child, taking the extra time to listen to their stories, read a book to them that they've chosen, choosing one to stay up later with me to watch a show or do something special. I'll still do an occasional date with each of them, but it's not as scheduled as it was before. We also have a quiet time during the day when everyone goes to their own spaces to relax and do something quietly. Sometimes when I have the energy, I'll do the special time with a child then.
  4. We've always had one in our garage and one in the basement. Right now we are only using the one on the garage as its bigger and everything fits in there but I much prefer the basement (especially in the cold months!)
  5. I asked on Friday when they would be sending them (I pre-orders) and they said they we're expecting to receive them this week. So I suspect th back order is just because they don't have them yet, but will send them once they are there. My little guy can't wait to get his hands on his.
  6. I've done it with all four of mine, both at their party and for a photo shoot. For my kids, they were exclusively breastfeed until a year (or past) so this was their first experience with food. A fun memory for us all, lots of pictures and yes they were messy. I typically made them either a small cake of their own or a cupcake and the rest of the guests had a different cake. I know it's not for everyone but we and our guests found it cute and fun.
  7. When we were recently in Europe we used our phones with Verizon's service they offer for international use...it was horrible and didn't work in several areas. Wifi was ok, but regular phone usage was hit or miss. We expected more for the price we were paying. Since we were traveling throughout different countries we didn't get a phone there, but if you are staying in one country I'd think of doing that or at least getting a SIM card there with the minutes. It'll depend upon what your use is for and for how long you'd need it.
  8. For holiday/seasonal books I pack them up with the holiday/seasonal decorations so they come out when I get those things out (otherwise I forget). For minor holidays I have them on our school bookshelves so I can find them and they aren't lost. We have separate bookshelves. One in my office that houses the books I don't want ruined or are for school- so all the school books, FIAR books and holiday type stuff will go there. The others are in the playroom and the kids rooms for free range reading.
  9. I set up a little chore or routine chart for mine when they are younger. So for my youngest (about the same age as yours) I have little cards that Velcro onto a laminated sheet. The tasks I want him to do are in the order he should do them. There is a to do side and an all done side. He really likes moving them once he's finished something. At this point he knows he's supposed to get up, make his bed, brush his teeth and wash his face, then get dressed before breakfast. Now that's taken training to get to that point. I took a week or two where I did it along with him and then handed that over to an older child to supervise until he knew to do it on his own. It has also helped that my older ones are doing the same chores/routine as him in the morning so he sees them doing it and his brother he shares a room with encourages him when needed.
  10. I've gotten a few boxes in the past and for me, a mom to 4 young boys and a husband who works a lot, it makes sense. I don't have the time or energy to go shopping and then search out different things. Plus shopping is anywhere from 1-2 hours away for me...not worth the drive or gas. Also, they do tend to pick things you may not have picked for yourself, but end up loving (or in some cases hating). As for quality, I have found my things have held up well. I think there is only one thing that has worn out, but more from a lot of wear than anything.
  11. I used the first book with my kids last year. It was review for them and my pre-k was fine with it. It's all pretty simple stuff, so if you've done any geography before it's nothing really new. We went through it quickly and then started the other series. If you plan on going through it together then the older series is ok to use for first. Its simply written (the story) and then the workbook can easily be done together and orally. My k kid is doing this with us and has no issue.
  12. I have mine do the day on their own during their independent work time. Then later I'll go over it with them and help them make any corrections before they copy it into their notebooks. We discuss the vocabulary word rather than writing it.
  13. My DS had bad eczema due to food allergies as well. Once we eliminated dairy gluten and soy he has had perfect skin. This summer we tried adding back in dairy with some cheese and it reappeared again. Elimination diet will probably give you the best results. Unless it's a gmo triggering the eczema, I can't imagine organics alone would help. We were always organic, but the eczema still persisted.
  14. We've just starting using it a few weeks ago and I'll typically add in a few things. I'll find extra books from the library and put them in our book basket to read when they want. I try to add in some sort of art project or hands on thing to go with it. Well also do a recipe, watch a video, have a read aloud that takes place there. I also try to find stories about children who live there and what school is like there. So we add a lot it, make sure they understand where it is on a map daily and get to know the count and culture.
  15. Whenever I'm making something new that's gluten free, I look up a recipe online or in my cookbook and use the flour mix they suggest. I've found that yields the best results. I have used some one for one flours and wasn't a fan of them. I have heard, but haven't used, better batter and Pamela's as being really good and easy to use. I always forget to order them until the actual day I need them, but those are two I want to try. For cake mixes we have really enjoyed the King Arthur's brand and some of the bob red mill are good too. But IMO gf is gf and will always taste different. Just the longer you're gf the less you notice, that is until you sneak a piece of conventional cake and then you remember.
  16. For our 4 bedroom, story 2,000 sq ft house it was $90/week. It was one woman who did it, paid her own taxes and she came twice a month
  17. I'm not sure about if there's a train from the airport to Roma termini (I'm assuming that it's the same station we took in Rome), but if you are waiting three hours at the airport to go to that train station, you'd be better off taking a taxi to the train station (20-30 minutes away) and if you want walk around there. It's in a part of the city with shops and restaurants nearby. And maybe take a ride to see the Colosseum or other sites near by the train station. You won't be able to get in them because of long lines, but you could see them. I remember seeing the. from our taxi as we drive from our apartment to the train station, so I can't imagine they are too far of a ride from the train station. Or grab something to eat at the airport until you have your transport to the train station. Also a side note...and you'll probably have no issue, but double check with italiarail before you get there about your train ride. We planned for a train previous to coming to get to Pompeii for a day trip. It went from Rome to Napoli and then to Pompeii. We arrived in Napoli only to find they aren't running trains to Pompeii because of an accident that had happened two weeks prior. We wer never notified. It was a slight headache trying to then find a way to Pompeii as we had a private tour guide waiting for us there. It all worked out, but I found their communication to be horrible by not notifying us previous to that date, getting us there and we still haven't resolved a refund for the tickets (which wer quite pricey since we had to resolve round trip travel). Even when we were there the information person we spoke with was quite confused about why were even asking about that train and the others didn't even know the line s shut down. We only figured it out since there were no trains on the schedule for us.
  18. We just got back and if you need to stay near the airport there really isn't any thing close by. It also seemed to take a lot of time to get through everything in the airport so it'll probably be less time than you hope. If I recall it was at least a 30 minute drive to Rome where all the sites are. There was a train station there, is that the one you are going to? If so you may be able to sneak a peek at the Colosseum. Otherwise there wasn't all that much nearby to do as I recall.
  19. I personally find that lavendar helps me relax when I have anxiety attacks and sleep better. One thing you do need to keep in mind and research is that some EOs can interact with meds. Make sure if she is using the EOs to make sure they wont harm her because of the meds she is on. For example- I just did a quick search and here is some information that came up with lavendar EO and interactions. (This is just an example that came up as I've never used this site before; obviously please do your own research first.). http://www.rxlist.com/lavender-page3/supplements.htm#Interactions
  20. I used TripAdvisor when planning our upcoming trip. The reviews were so helpful for us to plan the trip, I plan on adding our own after we've returned. I look at all types of reviews, as I am especially interested in the lower rated reviews. Most of the time the reason they've given it aren't applicable to us or don't matter so I know I can disregard them. I do the same on Amazon as I've noticed on there that many products have high reviews from those who were given the item for free or haven't used it.
  21. We have used amazon previously as pp mentioned. It will depend on where you are going and whether a delivery service will deliver to the hotel. When at Disney this wasn't an issue and we had not only amazon but a grocery service deliver.
  22. Typically we don't since we have reservations and things to do at our destination and want to get there as quickly as possible. At times I will plan stops along the way for longer car trips, but DH and I are both the type to go from point a to b.
  23. I've made one for DS before and they are easy enough to make. A little time consuming, but much less expensive than buying. They have helped him with sleeping when he chooses to use it. He does say that it can be hot still, but we don't have ac on always either.
  24. My kids saw this and were already getting excited. I had to nicely tell them they are dreaming and perhaps they can start saving up for their honeymoons 😜
  25. I'm also one who doesn't get the trend of doing the ful size bed, especially for younger kids. I look at the full being more costly upfront with the bed itself as well as the bedding options. The sheets and blankets are going to be more expensive. I also don't foresee giving my kids their mattresses when they move out. I'd rather help them out with a new one, not one that they've had for the past 15 or so years.
