  1. Rice crispy treats should ship well. You could make them colorful (and yummy) by using fruity pebbles instead of rice crispies.
  2. What an awesome opportunity for your mom and kids! Definitely keep it easy, so they will all have good memories of the special time together.
  3. Here's a good link you could send them. Sorry I don't have the link to the Washington Times article it was taken from. Note the 7th paragraph where it says that adults who were homeschooled are better socialized than their peers! http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/washingtontimes/200912140.asp And :grouphug: to you also.
  4. :lurk5::lurk5::lurk5: I never know how to glaze a ham properly.:confused:
  5. Why don't you ask her to bring a dessert? Gotta have something sweet after a yummy meal. :D
  6. I vote for a small tree. You could probably find one cheap at Wal-mart or Target. Something that has it's own ornaments. A tree just makes it feel like Christmas to me.
  7. There's no way to get out in today's snowstorm, but I am wondering about getting a sled for my kids before the next snowstorm. I have never before lived in a place where there is more than a inch of snow every 3 years! So basically, I have no idea what to look for or where to buy it. I really want something cheap, as we hope to move further south in a year or 2. Any suggestions?
  8. I went to a small, Christina college. LOTS of people had master keys to the dorms. Not just the RAs. Thankfully we didn't have a problem with theft, just obnoxious pranks. Hope they figure out who stole the laptops.
  9. We're in Fairfax, VA, so yes we are waiting on it. We are hoping the roads are not too bad tomorrow - we're having dd's birthday party tomorrow!
  10. I don't know of any certain brands, but maybe you could get her a cute container of M&M's. They are GF. You may also just want to take some time reading labels on the Christmas Candy row. There is a lot of GF candy out there.
  11. Me too!!! :D Before we moved, all of our friends hs'ed. Now that we have moved, we only know one nearby hs family. All of dd's friends go to ps, so we hardly get to spend time with them. I do know of 2 families that I wish would hs. Both have great kids and the moms would make super hs moms - sometimes I think they would do a better job at it than me! I have to content myself with praying for them to make the best choice for their kids and showing by example how wonderful hs can be.
  12. Make rice krispy treats, but use Fruity Pebbles instead of rice krispys. FP are GF and make a fun, colorful, yummy treat. My GF dd loves them!
  13. I don't get why everyone thinks the strapless look is perfect for them. It would never work for me. I don't have enough "up front" to hold it up without help! :glare:
  14. My dd nursed for 1 month and we had some problems that caused us to need to stop. Ds nursed til he lost interest at 15 months.
  15. I have a friend who is a dr (general practitioner). When my dd had a persistent dry cough, long after dd had been sick, I asked her what I could do to help her. She mentioned that OTC cough meds don't really help and I could try some honey. Then she said something I hadn't heard before. She said sometimes when her kids get like that, she gives them some ibuprophen before bed. She said sometimes you get some swelling and such from the constant coughing. The ibuprophen helps to reduce the swelling and helps them to sleep. I have since tried this several times when my kids have had trouble sleeping due to dry coughs. It helped, especially when they are getting frustrated because they can't get to sleep.
  16. How cool! I never mailed dd's letter because I thought they had quit doing the replies. Guess they haven't. :001_smile:
  17. I caught the tail end of a news story on TV today that someone was offering free package shipping on the 17th, garanteed to arrive by Christmas. I didn't hear who it was. I looked on the station's web-page, but they did not list this story. Anyone heard who is doing this? Thanks!!!!
  18. Here's my list of strangely named people I have known: We had a neighbor whose name was Sandy. She married a guy whose last name was Broom. Sandy Broom. My dad nicknamed her "Gritty Sweep" I went to high school with a guy whose name was Rich Kidd. I also know a girl with the name Memory. It bugged me at first, but after a while I kinda liked it.
  19. I had a bare-bones phone before I got my iPhone. I wasn't sure how well I would like it, but I needed and upgrade and dh wanted an iPhone, so he bought us each one. Now - I can't live without it! My most used things on it are the GPS, Facebook, internet (I read news at the table while the kids eat breakfast and watch cartoons:D), check weather forcasts and sometimes games. I also have several kid games for when I am desperate for something to entertain the kids. There are apps for my 2yo!:tongue_smilie:
  20. I'll put an extra spin on like the smell of babies - I love the smell of babies recently covered in the pink baby lotion. I hate that ds getting too big for baby lotion!
  21. Unfortunately where we go to church here does not have anywhere we could have a party. We actually did that once, when dd was 4.
  22. Dd will turn 7 soon. We didn't have a party last year, so I really want to have one for her this year. However we are on a tight budget and do not have space to have one at our house. It's way too cold to do anything outside, so that limits us also. I plan to invite her friends from church (about 5 girls). Parents, maybe siblings will be there, so that makes a lunch or dinner time party expensive. We live in N VA if anyone has an idea specific to this area. Thanks!!!
  23. When the new privacy stuff popped up the other day, I set everything so that only "friends" can see it. The people on my friends list I trust with info like my address, but who knows who they are friends with?
  24. My dh has done his. At one point he had to "unjailbreak" it to do something, then he re-jailbroke it. I don't know why. He's offered to do mine, but I have told him "no way."
