  1. Decided to go after teaching in a classroom with a broken air conditioner. It was the movies or Costco refrigerator section. I was a huge Barbie fan as a girl; liked playing with the dolls more than I liked the movie. I resonated with the idea that when playing with Barbies as a kid it could be empowering - she could do anything - but she looked unrealistic doing it. The Ken stuff was weird. But is was chilly inside the theater and that was the main point for me😊
  2. Could you host a book club at your house with dd's friends that meets twice a month? An hour commute is a hard no for me.
  3. More people using hybrid classes as a school. Ten years ago I saw more families who enrolled their children in one or two academic classes and a fun elective, but they still taught subjects at home. Now I see parents are signing up for a full schedule. Several parents comment that this option and a tutor is still cheaper than private schools. Definitely a different vibe.
  4. or on the glass part of a picturre frame
  5. This!! Come one, we all know the information is going in a database and being shared online. STOP making people waste paper.
  6. Random capitalization. Silverware not in the correct place. I always switch it to be correct. (and after 32 years of marriage, my husband still has to ask me)
  7. a rolled up ball of tinfoil was my cat's favorite; my dd's cat LOVES a Santa toy that was my dog's toy first.
  8. I had a cat who played fetch and my dd's cat loves to play fetch, too.
  9. FYI - thermal/black out curtains are wonderful, but they do make the room really dark; you might want to fall asleep. We got ours from Costco.
  10. You have plenty of time this fall to work on math. I would spend an hour a day on math and plan to retake the test.
  11. My understanding is that every BODY is so different that you are just going to have experiment and see how you are. I think it is important to learn to listen to your body - I have not mastered that task at all, but I am trying.
  12. I wonder if the school just means a sleeve for the laptop? like this It basically only fits a laptop and its cords.
  13. It has been a joke in our household for sometime. But I had to get rid of all the Junie B. Jones books. My six year old dd was becoming Junie B.
  14. Something fun and light we did that helped review history - I had all the SOTW on audio so I just shuffled the playlist, and we listened to one chosen at random when we got in the car. We would then talk about it casually afterwards for a few minutes. I also kept a laminated world map in the backseat for the kids to look at if they wanted. For a textbook - any of the above work really well. Make a timeline she can review often, too. (plan a trip)
  15. Instead of flowers now - send them to her on their anniversary or on his birthday. Now - I would send a card and maybe a giftcard to a nearby restaurant that delivers. Set a reminder in your phone to check on her every six - eight weeks.
  16. Air mattress work so much better for just one person. I would go with a daybed and a trundle. If you are handy, you can build a murphy bed or buy one, but it is a lot more money.
  17. I would chase a kidnapper or pet snatcher. That is all. And I would lose -can't run fast, and I don't drive fast.
  18. Proofs are part of geometry. If your student actually does the assigned problems in the book, there are many. There are usualy two on each test.
  19. I grew up in Gastonia but have not been back in years. BUT Facebook keeps me updated.. Mt. Holly, Belmont, and McAdenville (but only if you love Christmas) are nice and close to Charlotte. Go see some houses; drive around and see what appeals to you - go in every open house - even town homes. It will help you understand what you like and dislike. In the meantime, start cleaning out one room a week. If you don't move, you end up with a clean house.
  20. Watch Hack My House on Netflix. They have some really creative ideas. How often do you have guests and how often do they stay? I am thinking of their comfort in the twin foldouts... not the most comfortable.
  21. I grew up in Gastonia. I have not been back in years... If you like mountains, you might consider moving to Greenville, SC. It has a vibrant downtown and arts scene with a small town feel but all the amenities of a big town excpet major league sports. They have minor league sports and colleges nearby with lots of sports.
  22. Would he like to volunteer and be a coach for a younger team? Then he could still be connected to the game, get some volunteer hours, and have some love of the game.
  23. coffee shop or little cafe for the lunch rush would be great I would start with what is close by and look there.
