  1. Make sure you train in all kinds of weather. The triathlon I did was in August, which is typically VERY dry here in the northwest. On race day it poured buckets and I was scared when I had to ride my bike in a huge group on wet streets that I (or someone else) was going to slide and crash. Also, make sure you do plenty of bricks - trainings where you do 2 out of the 3 events in sequence. Good luck and have fun!

  3. I'm embarrassed that this keeps happening in our community.
  4. Does the other party share the same insurance carrier, e.g. do you both have Allstate or Geico Insurance? I'm not sure how that would work, but I think you should call YOUR personal agent and show him/her the letter. Your liability coverage means that your insurance will provide you with lawyer to fight the suit, if in fact a lawsuit has been filed.
  5. Teresa, try to calm down. This will be okay and you are not going to be bankrupt. :grouphug: We got sued after my husband rear-ended someone a few years ago, so he was at fault. The other party made no claims for 2.5 years and then sued us for 60K + for pain and suffering and medical treatments (mostly acupuncture and chiropractor bills). Our insurance's lawyer handed it and it went it front of a judge when they refused to settle. The judge gave them about 23K - about 1/3 of what they asked for. Your insurance will handle it for you! The first we knew about our lawsuit was when my husband was served a subpoena at the front door. The other party had already filed suit. The person/lawyer who sent you a letter is trying to get you to agree to terms that favor them. The lawyer your insurance will provide is experienced at fighting this. Don't respond to the letter in any way - let the lawyer do it all.The other party knows they will need to prove vehicle damage, physical injuries (with medical records) and doctor visits. For that amount if money, they would need to be able to prove injuries with tests that diagnose an injury directly related to the accident. Was an ambulance called to the scene? Did they go directly to the hospital and require a CAT scan, MRI, x-rays? Were they admitted? I am pretty sure there would need to be extensive medical documentation to get that level of settlement, otherwise there is no way they are getting that amount of money. If you google personal injury law you should be reassured. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  6. I LOVE that you got an entire thread of supportive replies - and I agree with everyone else. I have one in college and 2 teens. I am NOT A FAN of current cultural expectations that all teens should have a long list of extracurriculars and leadership positions. Hobbies and small jobs are important! Down time is VERY important! And I feel this really sticks it to the introverts. My son is in an honors program at a state school and he had a list of extracurriculars similar to your DD's, FWIW. It worked out fine. He got a merit award he didn't even know to apply for - they just awarded it to him.
  7. I will be paying college tuition for the next 11 years minimum, and some of those years will overlap multiple kids. One year ago I pulled my kids' college money (529 plan) out of funds that had a large exposure to stocks and now they are in incredibly conservative, mostly bond funds or cash. I did miss the gains of the last year but I have SO much security knowing we won't lose that money. This administration is certainly attempting to be business-friendly (although I'm concerned about the steel tariff situation), but it is also very unstable and all it's going to take is one North Korean missile launch for life, the market, and everything to descend into chaos.
  8. Chiming in late to say "Awesome job, Katie!" I love before and after pics and I take them myself when cleaning big messes. You worked super hard and your house looks fantastic.
  9. Send well wishes and white blood cells your way.
  10. I really think you want a Medic Alert bracelet. EMTs, doctors, and good samaritans who have taken a first aid course are all trained to look for them. That will be the quickest, clearest way to convey that extremely important information. Forget any kind of paper letter - how is a 9 year old going to carry that when she is outside playing? Swimming? On a field trip to a pottery studio?
  11. That is a really common teen job and it pays well. I would absolutely encourage my teen to do it if they were ready for the responsibility.
  12. I'd love to see it drop more so I can buy. Except for 401K investing I have been waiting for the correction to make purchases.
  13. I am a petite 5'1", typically wear XS, but all of their clothes have been a mile too big on me, both length and width. I'd size down, not up.
  14. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: My heart breaks for you.
  15. Have you contacted the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in your state? They assist people with disabilities in finding the job that's right for them, and sometimes pay for schooling as well. I don't remember what state you are in, but here's a link to my state's DVR that explains the services people can receive through them. It might be helpful to have a third party advise and assist your son. https://www.dshs.wa.gov/strategic-planning/what-services-are-available-me
  16. Sending positive thoughts! What a nightmare.
  17. Go G5052! Have you seen Ask A Manager? She has tons of interview tips. I read her daily. http://www.askamanager.org/
  18. :iagree: Please don't send sick kids where there are likely to be vulnerable people. I'm so sorry for your loss, and sorry you have to miss the funeral too. That's grief on top of grief.
  19. You have my total sympathy. My kids are 3 for 3 for needing braces. The offices are full of 23 year old assistants and it is challenging to have a real conversation with the ortho. My youngest has 2.5 years to go, and when she is done we will have paid (total for all three) nearly 15K. I hate everything about this.
  20. I hate carpools even though they are often necessary......just like root canals. :grouphug:
  21. Go G5! I am pulling for you. I hope the perfect job comes through. It sounds like you have your head on right. I hope you have a great attorney. Let the attorney handle the nickel-and-dime negotiations. It may cost you money but it will buy you mental peace. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  22. In my experience, there is no way to address it and I would put the onus of disposal on the kid, not take it upon myself.
