  1. I think you can let her know that what she's requesting is something that's not comfortable, and "stretching" you, but that you're willing to do it. I think you did the right thing by going ahead with it. It's good for us to be stretched out of our comfort zone, especially for the sake of honoring others in relationships. It sounds like you have a wonderful dil, and even more, it sounds like your are a great mil! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
  2. We're using RS4K Pre-Level A Chemistry this year and have enjoyed it. The materials for the book are really easy to get - stuff you can pick up at the grocery store. I just made a list at the beginning and bought everything up front. It is a drawback that the book is only 10 weeks. I am adding in LLB Chemistry (some of it, not sure how much). Another book to look at is Fizz, Bubble & Flash by Anita Brandolini. It talks about the periodic table, then goes through all of the elements and has expirements to go along with each. I picked up this book from half.com very cheap. We haven't used it yet, but it looks like a really fun book.
  3. I always had to have pitcoin too - ugh. Some of us just need a little extra help. You'll be holding your precious little one in your arms soon! Praying that all goes well.
  4. Wow, Jean, you've really been hit with a lot of bad weather this winter! Hope you can stay inside, warm and dry. It is raining here (yuck), so all of our beautiful snow is melting away. I guess it's supposed to snow tonight or tomorrow, but not much.
  5. I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family. (((Monique)))
  6. Oh, would you like some cheese with your whiiiiine? :D (j/k, of course - I never got to be first either!). The quirkiness of the old board was kind of fun. Just a few months before the switch, I finally caught on the the "rhythm" of the board. I would know when it was about to flip, and finally figured out how to check the post count. There are plenty of positives here that outweigh the losses, though.
  7. Well...since I'm surrounded by Amish neighbors, I'm well aware of some of the hardships of the past. I love my Amish friends and neighbors, but they work so hard! I'd never make it. I love my washer & dryer, dishwasher, and air conditioning way too much. I do appreciate the simplicity and quietness of their lifestyle, though. Since I had a very difficult birth with my first ds, I assume I'd be one of the many women who died in childbirth. :( There are aspects of the past I long for. But life was very hard, just in different ways.
  8. DB, I'm so sorry for the loss of your baby boy. Prayers and hugs for you today as you remember him.
  9. Even if you don't love the holiday, this one is sweet: Happy Valentine's Day from Google
  10. I'm making this one today: Slow Cooker Pork Chops 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1/4 cup white cooking wine 4-6 pork chops 1 tsp. pepper green beans potatoes Brown pork chops in butter, season with pepper. Mix soup & wine, pour over pork chops in crockpot. Cook on low 7-8 hours. Add green beans and potatoes about two hours before done.
  11. Thanks for sharing this - I really enjoyed reading the article. Beautiful pictures!
  12. I think Dana is registered, but I haven't seen her around at all. I miss her too, and I hope she'll join us again. Edited to add: Actually, I just checked and she's not registered (not under Dana in NC, anyway). Bummer!
  13. Consumer Reports is a great source of info for appliances. It's worth the price for that. You can subscribe online by the month or year, then you get the latest reviews. We just bought an LG front-loader. I started using it at the beginning of January. Love, love, love it. Oh, and did I mention that I love it?!! :p I'm still waiting to see what impact it will have on our water usage, but I know I'll never go back to a top-loading washer.
  14. I love Library Elf! It makes managing our library stuff so much easier!
  15. How wonderful for you to have people stand beside and give you support. I'm confident that they are being blessed as well in their service.
  16. Congratulations, Jenne! I'll be praying for you and your little one.
  17. It's good to see you back here! Sounds like you have many changes ahead. I hope it all goes well for your family. Don't be a stranger here! :)
  18. I sort my laundry like this, but I make the "piles" in laundry baskets. I usually put the laundry baskets on our bed, but they can be stacked up if needed to make more space. When I'm ready for the next load, the next basket goes to the washer. Baskets stack on top of the washer when not in use.
  19. (((home4school))). It sounds like your mom is really doing a number on you family and on your confidence with her criticism. You are not the problem in your family. You are stuck in the middle of things, and it sounds like you're the one taking all of the heat! I would encourage you to work together with your husband to set some boundaries for your family regarding your mother. Allow him to protect you, and the two of you together protect the well-being and integrity of your family. If your mother really is unhappy there, help her make arrangements to move elsewhere. If she actually does want to live with you, then set some basic expectation as to how you and your family will/will not be treated. I'll pray that you and your husband will have the strength and wisdom to work through these issues!
  20. Wow, what a surprise! Praying that your son can take advantage of what has been given and pursue change.
