  1. Chris, I'm so sad for you. Having worked with troubled teens and their families in the past, I know how devastating and exasperating it can be to stand by and feel so helpless as a child spirals downward. I'll be praying for safety for your son and anyone who may be with him. I'll also pray that he can face the truth be open to help. Peace for you, my friend. God knows your heart and your deepest needs and sorrows. (((Chris)))
  2. I do think Tom Petty is pretty laid back for a Super Bowl half-time show. But I love him - it's the only time I can remember actually wanting to watch the half-time show! He looks so old, though. What's up with that? I haven't aged a day since the 80's...;)
  3. The picture in your header is beautiful! Love the colors. I do think that the wording in the header is a little difficult to read. Perhaps a different/bolder font?
  4. What I want to do: Eat chocolate, clean up my office/schoolroom, and figure out what we're doing for school next week. What I'm doing: Moving garage stuff over from the old house to the new, but very dirty and crowded garage here. Sweeping, sorting, and putting away. I also swept up sawdust in the basement and worked on organizing our basement storage room. Moving takes so. much. time. But I did have time to find good recipes for biscotti and scones! I don't know what we'll be learning next week, but we're going to have hot chocolate and scones for our snacks!
  5. Praying for a successful surgery and quick recovery! And peace for you. :)
  6. Jean, I'm praying for healing and peace for your Mom. May the Lord give you and all of your family wisdom and strength.
  7. It's good to see you! I'm glad to hear that the wedding plans are moving along well. You do have a lot on your plate! Hang in there with the schooling. I can imagine it must be very hard to focus in on school with so much going on.
  8. It's raining here! :( I hate rain in the winter. We had beautiful snow this weekend, but now it's all gone. Okay, whine over. It sounds like it might be getting cold again, if it's already cold in central IL. Winter in Indiana is such a roller coaster.
  9. I am doing Pre-Level 1 this year - my boys are 3rd and 1st. I think my oldest could handle Level 1, but I would completely lose my 1st grader with it. PL 1 has been just right. We just have one student workbook. The student workbook is basically questions that go along with the experiements. It is a lot of writing, so we talk about it together, then my oldest ds writes the answers. Writing is a chore for my 1st grader, so I don't have him doing any of the writing. You could easily copy it if you wanted both to write. You definitely need the TM, as it gives supply lists and explains the experiments. We've enjoyed the curriculum. It's only ten weeks, so you could easily do more chemistry or another curriculum. We are going to go through Fizz, Bubble and Flash (fun book!), and do some of Living Learning Books Chemistry. Almost forgot the last question! It is definitely secular, as in it doesn't really mention God or use Bible verses, etc. You could certainly add whatever you wanted to it.
  10. I'm copying this from my post on the General board, since I like to hang out in both places. :) I'm Denise, and I live in northeast Indiana, close to Ft. Wayne. My dh grew up here, and I've lived here almost 17 years. We just built a house right next to dh's parents. We have three boys, ages 8 1/2, 6 1/2, and 3 1/2, and one girl, age 3. Our daughter was born in China and adopted by us at 18 months (thus the small age difference between ds 3 and dd!). We're in our fourth year of homeschooling; my sons are 3rd and 1st grade. We are loosely following TWTM at this point. I discovered these boards 2-3 years ago while looking for good curriculum advice, but I've stayed around for all the good enabling and good company! I can proudly say that I now make my own yogurt, own a front-load washing machine, make vanilla, drink Mike's, own more bookshelves (and booKshelves), and use Foil Hat soap! :D I like to scrapbook, bake, eat chocolate, read, listen to music, and play the piano in the spare moments when I'm not taking care of my family or on the computer.
  11. I love reading through these, so I guess it's time to add mine! I'm Denise, and I live in northeast Indiana, close to Ft. Wayne. My dh grew up here, and I've lived here almost 17 years. 12. Yes. and Yes. My ds3 is like this. I've dubbed it "third boy syndrome" - always on the go, getting great ideas about what to do by watching the older sibs, and always trying to keep up. Not such a great combination...I'm hoping it gets a little better as he gets older (a girl can dream, right?). :o Hang in there, ((Jo)).
  13. Great cake - I'm impressed! So glad you got one to turn out, and it looks like your boys had fun!
  14. Wow, that's amazing! I'm so art-impaired, I can't even imagine how to start making something like that. Very cool.
  15. (((MB))) - I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this. I'm all for sticking the WTMafia (with PariSarah at the lead) on him. Continuing to pray for you.
  16. Oh, these sound yummy! I promise I won't steal yours, :D...but I'll looking for some on my next Target trip. I always have some kind of chocolate (preferrable dark) around. I don't usually have to hide it, since no one else here likes dark, but I will hide it when necessary.
  17. I've been wondering about her too. Hope she is doing well and makes over here to the new site!
  18. It's been snowing off and on all weekend here, and I love it! In my view of the world, there should be snow in the winter. Snow and sunshine, and I'm happy!
  19. Glad you're here! I've been wondering when you were going to join us!!
  20. Welcome! I'm glad you're here *and* posting!
  21. Hmm..no fudge recipe to share, but with all this talk of chocolate I need to find some chocolate chips to eat! :D Some of these fudge recipes look really wonderful. Definitely must try!
  22. Go to "List Subscriptions" in your User CP. See the little boxes on the far right? Then down at the bottom of those is a drop down box that says "Selected Threads: Move to folder...". Click on the arrow for the drop down box, and you'll see several options for your subscritions - one of which is "delete subscription". Just click on the box of the one you want to delete, then go to the drop down box and click "delete subscription", then click on the "go" box. That's all! 8-)
  23. Yes, thank you! There are so many abbreviations used here (especially on the curriculum board). It will be much easier to search for things like "TOG" now.
