  1. Thanks so much! You have all encouraged me greatly. I think I will send her another email to let her know I will be filing the claim tomorrow and just do so. I am sympathetic to her plight, but need to resolve this and move on. Thanks again! Dawn
  2. What was your experience like once the claim was filed? I really hate being in a situation where this seems to be imminent. I have happily purchased used curriculum from other moms for years without any incidences. Unfortunately, I've hit some bad luck of late. I had one package tear causing the loss of 2/3 of the content. That seller was incredibly gracious and refunded part of the cost. My current situation, though, is with a seller that took $50 for a set of SL readers (at another board) on April 29th and apparently has still not even mailed the package. At first there was car trouble, then the promise, "they'll be in the mail today." That was May 17. After not receiving them, I emailed again at the beginning of this month only to get an email back that they hadn't mailed. The seller had gone through some family issues that had caused financial difficulties and depression. She had apparently neglected sending many items and is in quite a hole re: paypal. While I feel that there have been an awful lot of excuses, I also know that she could have just told me the items were mailed and she wasn't responsible for their loss if she really wanted to lie to me. She did respond to my email with a promise of sending them "tomorrow" and emailing me the delivery confirmation number. That tomorrow was about a week ago and I haven't heard back. I sent a "just checking in..." email the other night, but haven't heard anything. I opened a dispute on June 10th just in case I would need to file a claim. I'd hoped we'd be able to work it out together, but now am thinking I will end up being forced to file the claim before my 20 days are up. I have tried to be patient, but know that I must be wise as well. So, if you've had to go through this process, is it likely to be resolved in a timely manner once the claim is filed? I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever see the books or the cash again. :crying: Dawn
  3. My poor sleepy baby. Almost one, and he still doesn't sleep through the night. Sigh.
  4. Have you looked at Bible Scribe? Of course, you could make your own sheets, but their prices are really low. Just a thought. :001_smile:
  5. You might also look at Our Young Folks' Josephus. It's a Jewish history starting with Abraham. The book is available as a free download here.
  6. I looked at this in the bookstore and really liked the looks of it. When I went to amazon to read reviews, most were very positive; however, the one that wasn't positive discouraged me from purchasing it...at least right away. For those of you that have used it, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much for sharing! Dawn
  7. I cannot speak for this site as a whole, but this post was quite funny. BTW--This will only make sense if you are up to date on the show, so DON'T PEEK IF NOT(spoiler)
  8. I discovered this magazine when I purchased a back issue from Rhonda in TX. Later, I was ecstatic to find three others from another seller, but unfortunately only one made it to me due to the package tearing in transit. So, I've been trying to find back issues. Today, I found their site, and they are revamping the "magazine" as books and releasing them every four months starting August 2008. This time they will be spiral bound, and cost $19.95 per book, $75 for a year's worth--four. For those who haven't seen these magazines before, they are fabulous. They have nature study ideas, excerpts from classics such as Plutarch's Lives and Shakespeare, composer studies w/cd, and full color prints from a particular artist along with a study on that artist. The excerpts are for three different age levels: young children, intermediate and high school. I love the two copies that I have and may be tempted to purchase the August release, just to get an idea of the new format. I just wanted to share this link because back issues are available here as well as info on the new book coming out in August for anyone interested.
  9. Yeah, I've wondered the same things. I also occasionally sell things on ebay. However, I've got to think this pertains more to buyers who pay in a timely manner. They must have alternative options for sellers when the payment doesn't come or is very late. Still, you're so close...just a few more posts and you can sell it here, which to me is so much easier than fooling with ebay anyway. Dawn
  10. Sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers. I am not sure exactly how this is going to work out, but that is what ebay has recently stated in a policy change. I personally think it is a good thing since you should only be rated on paying in a timely manner and not by giving positive feedback to the seller. So, you can leave appropriate feedback without the fear of seller retaliation. Supposedly, anyway. :001_smile:
  11. We used a lot of Sonlight read-aloud recommendations along with some others. Here were our most successful ones: Tale of Despereaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo The Borrowers Charlotte's Web The Little House series
  12. free in MS! Darn! I was just getting into using it. Oh, well. I can't afford to get a subscription, so I'll just take advantage of this last month. Are any of you other "free" states getting similar emails or is it just ours. I'm really not surprised if it is just ours.
  13. Aleve is naproxen which is a muscle relaxer, though you may have already tried that. Hope you find relief soon.
  14. Mine's up, too. It's almost Wednesday here. :001_smile:
  15. I understand. Dd went through this, too, but I was not as wise as you. I pushed the harder stuff too soon and reading lost its shine for a while. Thankfully, we have recovered. :001_smile: One thing that might work is the compilation editions of Frog and Toad and other readers. They are nice and thick, which appeals to their desire to be reading "big" books, yet the material is on the right level. She'll love Little House in the Big Woods as others have suggested. The Nate the Great books are good, and I've seen that they have another series with his cousin Olivia. I haven't read any of those though. Amelia Bedelia is great, too.
  16. If you don't already get Sonlight's catalog, you should sign up for one. They have fabulous suggestions. Also, 1000 Good Books. It doesn't sound like my experience pertains to you, but I'll share it anyway, just in case. One thing I've found with my dd--who was also an early reader--is that although she is reading well, I need to let her slowly go through the lower level books before pushing her on to more. She is a great reader, and sometimes I get over-ambitious with my book purchases. :001_smile: I forget that even though she "can" she really doesn't have to, yet. So, I have stepped back, letting her reread the Dr. Seuss books, Clifford, Arthur, I Can Read books. It's building her confidence, and I love seeing her growing love of books.
  17. It's hard to find and can be rather expensive, but you might like The Story of Mankind aka A Picturesque Tale of Progress by Olive Miller. The first chapter has the timeline 150,000 BC to 50,000 BC.
  18. Ole Miss alum here! I was a shy, reserved girl with no interest in partying or the Greek system, and I LOVED my experience at Ole Miss. There are great campus ministries, and God used one of them to solidify my relationship with Him. Oxford is a beautiful, wonderful little town. I'd love to return. PM me if you want to discuss it further.
  19. Does this happen to be the worship ministry? If so, this is one area in the church where ego comes greatly into play. Talented people are often put into positions that they are not spiritually prepared for. Guard against a passive relationship with this fellow Christian. It's my nature as well to be a peacemaker. Unfortunately, too often, I do a good job of never really addressing the issue. You are now a leader. If this person is a baby Christian, then you have an opportunity to encourage new growth in them. Most definitely you should offer an olive branch, but as the leader of this part of the ministry now, you also have the place to set ground rules regarding behavior. I would suggest inviting IP to coffee. If he/she is receptive to your invitation, be direct at your meeting. Express the problem but also let IP know that you value his/her input and would like them to participate in the ministry. Also, though, use scripture to express your concerns regarding past behavior and why this must change in the future. Most importantly: PRAY, PRAY, PRAY. IP needs it, and you do as well to find God's wisdom in how to deal with this situation.
  20. Sarah, This is one of those questions that will get many different answers. :001_smile: Personally, I use the English Standard Version. It is considered one of the most literal translations from the original texts while still being very readable. If you take a passage, for instance a familiar one like Psalms 23--"The Lord is my Shepherd"--and enter it into the passage look-up section at www.biblegateway.com, you will be able to read it in many different versions. Just pull down the menu, scroll down to the English section and choose from there. This will give you an idea of each them and how they read. Also, it helps to browse at a bookstore so you can hold them in hand and check them out. HTH, Dawn
