  1. The Bumbo has never been a successful containment device for ds, but it works wonders as a form of entertainment. :001_smile:
  2. :iagree:This book has had a profound and lasting impact on me. Another I would suggest is actually a memoir--Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Diebler Rose. Reading that book I was amazed at God's gentle care for His children even in the midst of great sorrow and devastation.
  3. I'd like advice on which dictionary to purchase as well. I'm looking for elementary but not too simple. Thanks, Dawn
  4. to MHEA to ask about whether or not speakers will be recorded. I'm thinking probably not, as our conference is not quite as sophisticated as others. :001_smile: I'll post if I get a response. BTW--Tutor, we'll have to arrange a meeting so I can post that I've met someone from WTM! :D Of course, that is not the only reason I'd love to meet you IRL finally. Hope to see you there!
  5. I'm still trying to make up my mind regarding attending our convention vs. just coming to the exhibit hall. She's the only speaker I'm really interested in hearing. If you've attended a seminar of hers, how was it? Thanks, Dawn
  6. I purchased the Rodgers and Hammerstein collection from Amazon when it was on sale. We just watched Carousel the other day and it was AWFUL! Really awful! Thankfully the set also included Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific and The King and I. Now, I'm afraid to watch State Fair, the only other one I hadn't yet seen. It was interesting to see in the "making of" portion of Enchanted that the older dancers in the movie were dancers from the grand days of musicals. It's neither a classic or academic, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I really wish they would bring musicals back.
  7. when I mentioned it off the cuff to my ob when pregnant with dd, I didn't receive his usual, "hey, that's no problem" but got an "uh-oh" instead. There is a condition called PUPPS which I think others have mentioned. With many it just gets more and more uncomfortable till delivery, but other than that I don't think it is harmful. In my case, however, my liver enzymes were elevated and they feared cholestasis. Thankfully, in two weeks the itching had stopped and my liver counts were back to normal. Doc said it could have been as simple as a virus that affected my liver in this way. SARNA anti-itch lotion was great for me, though the smell made me slightly nauseous. :001_smile:
  8. I agree with Pam. My sister never knew her father--we left when she was only 1 month old--but she has contacted her half-siblings (they are younger than her and also no longer live with the father) through myspace. They have developed wonderful relationships over the years. She just met her father for the first time last year, but sadly no relationship kindled there. So, while I feel you have no moral obligation, you never know what sharing some kindness with a girl who has probably had a lonely life will do. Of course, you must guard yourself and enter cautiously, but if you're so inclined maybe you could begin an email relationship with her. My thoughts are that you shouldn't feel guilted into beginning a relationship with her, though you also shouldn't let your negative feelings toward your father prevent you from doing so. :grouphug: Dawn
  9. but someone in our church purchased this one from Schwinn and loved it. Now at least two other mom's have purchased the same one on the recommendation of this mom. Since I see them using them on a regular basis, I assume they are all pleased.
  10. Hope you have a fantastic day! Thanks for always being so helpful and kind.
  11. Is she asking specifically to attend this school you have mentioned or to go back to a school environment? If she wants to go back to school in general, I would begin researching alternatives for her. Surely other schools exist in the area that would be more desirable. I understand, however, that financially some may not be an option. Ultimately it will be a decision you and your dh will have to make together. I can't imagine sending my dd to a huge public high school, but dh does want her to go to high school outside of the home. However, when that time comes I hope to have found a private school that I am comfortable sending her to. We all have our different views re: hs, but I do think some children excel in school settings. I hope you are provided with a wonderful solution to your dilemma. Dawn
  12. Thank you SO very much for that information!!! I will try again today. :hurray:
  13. Is media mail an option at Classical Academic? It only gave me a UPS option that I could see. I would be delighted to pay media mail if possible. I'm in Mississippi.
  14. My sentiments exactly. I do believe we must have been separated at birth.:D
  15. ;) I have to admit I don't have any. I want to get Plaid Dad's revised version of the Latin Centered Curriculum whenever it is released. Hopefully that will help me have more of an idea of where to go from here. I'm also planning to start Greek after getting a strong foothold in Latin.
  16. I hijacked your thread to throw in my own question to Plaid Dad! :001_smile: Hope you don't mind. I'm wanting to do Lively Latin down the road and thought Song School would be a good soft intro, but now I'm wondering about going straight into it.
  17. But, Plaid Dad, I'd also love to hear your thoughts on Song School Latin, if you have any.
  18. I have been so blessed to find so many things that I have needed at such a bargain on various used boards. Now that I want Song School Latin I am finding it almost impossible to pull the trigger due to a shipping/handling charge of $15.95. Ugh. I can't help but think about what I could buy with that $16. :001_smile:
  19. I had thought that early diagramming might be interesting, but was a little concerned by their look. Nonetheless, if you want to sell them, send me a PM what you'd like for them. I am going to try starting SWR next year, though I am a little intimidated by it. :001_smile: When you were researching grammar options, did you look at Shurley? I am currently doing GWG, but am looking at both Shurley and R&S for down the road. I was just curious about your thoughts. Thanks again, Dawn
  20. in conjunction with SWR or alone? If so, what did you think of them? They are inexpensive and look rather primitive in quality, so I am curious to hear from someone who has actually held them in hand. Here's a link. Thanks so much, Dawn
  21. along the road (don't remember when this theory was presented or by whom), was that since the Jewish people were expecting a warrior Messiah to come and physically deliver them from the hand of the Romans, that Judas' betrayal was actually a way of forcing Jesus' hand to bring about that deliverance. The disciples did not understand that Jesus was here to die for our sins and deliver us from our spiritual captivity, although he had tried to prepare them. Thus, Judas would not have had any idea the outcome of his actions would lead to Jesus death. He had in his mind what Jesus should do and he wasn't doing it soon enough so he helped. I am not saying I espouse to this idea, just that I have heard it.
