  1. The bolded would be my thoughts. I am disinclined to help those who choose to have "somebody else" do their hard work.
  2. I'll link my blog (ignore bad language and threats of stalking against the former owners of our house, though) once I get it up. They're easy, massive drop biscuits. Yummy!
  3. I was panicking over dinner earlier. It was 3:40. so I took the time to photograph the steps in my awesome GF biscuit recipe.
  4. Exactly my position. You should see me trying to buy pens. :svengo:
  5. Oh, man. That falls into the category of "some people just need to be drop kicked, quite frankly"!
  6. I have one like that. He is going to send me to the Betty Ford clinic.
  7. The farm where I get my milk makes butter like this: pour off the cream into a large jar. Let it come up to room temp. Shake it til it's butter. Then you rinse it in cold water, and add salt if you want it. I thought Miriam had a special press or something, to make the pretty scallop on top of the container. It's just spoon marks, though. :-)
  8. From my book clubs days, the older members (in your age range) enjoyed Atonement, a couple Ann Tyler novels, Bel Canto.... Diane Rhem just had readers' discussions on the Marilynne Robinson novels "Gilead" and "Home" that sounded excellent. I loved Edward P. Jones' "The Known World" (novel) and "All Aunt Hagar's Children" (short stories), and am enjoying reading through Geraldine Brooks' historical fiction. I think "March" (about the father in Little Women) is next on my fiction list.
  9. Um... Heat them? I'm only guessing, but when I make marshmallows, they come out of the mixer bowl like fluff, then firm up as they cool fully.
  10. My grandmother - the one who sharpied out bad words in library books - left behind a whole collection of hardcover Danielle Steele novels. :001_huh: Does she like mysteries? I love Maisy Dobbs. Very engaging, set between the world wars in England.
  11. I know the Y here is doing an Angel Tree sort of thing, providing gifts for the member children who get financial assistance for membership.
  12. I think the Childens Place has slims up to size 14 or 16, with the adjustable waist. Their website is weird, though. You have to pick jeans in the left side navigation, then slims over there, too. (I would think they would just have slim / plus as a sizing option when you're looking at the pants, but they don't) Old Navy also has slims, and they typically run long in the leg, at least in adult sizes. Maybe try looking at places like Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe, where they have the super-teeny juniors sizes, like 00?
  13. I would be leery of either, unless the ingredients list is specific. It would seem obvious that pasta sauce would be GF, but sometimes... I just discovered, because my 10yo was organizing the pantry and reading labels, that Contadina tomato paste is GF (obviously, right?) - the only ingredient is tomatoes - but their Italian herb tomato paste has wheat gluten as an ingredient. So products that have "spices" or "other flavorings" as ingredients go into the "leery" category for me.
  14. No. He has an AA in Criminal Justice, BS in Sociology/Law Enforcement, MA in management. He's a firefighter/paramedic. Well, he's an officer, so he might use some of the management stuff, but not in a "working in his field" kind of way. And he does use his non-degree professional certifications.
  15. FWIW, the big group photo from my wedding - with my now deceased grandmother - has random prisoners in the back of the group. (we got married at the courthouse.
  16. :iagree: And there would be a VERY pointed discussion about why.
  17. absolutely not. I own that mixer. A 2-loaf batch is its limit, and that will detach the bowl. (and a 5lb bag of flour holds 18 cups, more or less)
  18. I usually make breads, bars, limited cookies. (I had a bad experience with baking hundreds of rolled, cut sugar cookies 20 years ago. I'm still not over it. :001_huh: ) I usually try to make my dad chocolate bourbon balls. If you're after lemon bars, my favorites are the recipe on the Who Wants Seconds blog. (they're even crazy delicious tweaked to be GF)
  19. I think it's around $3.27 for regular by my house. I haven't been out in that direction for the past few days, though, so it might have changed.
  20. They are now a division of Whirlpool. The once metal components are plastic and the appliances are no longer meant to be repaired and maintained. (which is what I was told by Whirlpool "customer service" when I called to find a shear pin for my - formerly made by Hobart - coffee grinder.) They are coasting on the reputation Hobart built. Alas, I think their own reputation is becoming more evident.
  21. That's what I was thinking as well. I'm sure there are some "family" photos I was roped into before my husband and I were married. There are likely also some with my bil's ex-girlfriend, who was around longer than his almost-ex wife, who was around longer than the girlfriend he doesn't live with but is expecting a child with... I guess I'm just thinking there isn't any guarantee of permanence.
  22. I did a 15 minute cardio warmup, and it's an upper body day so I did incline/decline bench press, a couple warmup rounds, then 8/6/4RM (I'm rehabbing a rotator cuff, so naturally I'm going to spend as much time, with as much weight, as I can on the bench(es) ); dumbbell curls, triceps, angled rows, overhead press; cable shoulder and traps work. And I did abs. Tomorrow starts full return to daily workout (I've only been lifting for the past few days) so I'll be doing an additional 30 minutes of cardio after dead lifts & abs. (My whole body hurts. I am blaming it on my 18yo workout buddy)
