  1. I am sure it is a great book but when I first read the title of this post all I could think of was, " What does a restaurant have to do with English" LOL Applebee's is a restaruant chain out here in CA.
  2. My ped gave me the inhaler and said use it the next time she has a problem and if it work she has exercise induced asthma. If it does not come back and we will do more tests. It worked so she just used it before exercise or waits until and incident starts. Jenn P.S. Hydration is not a problem for my Hannah. She drinks like a fish.
  3. I quilt. I just about 5 minutes ago finished binding a queen size quilt for a wedding present. I taught myself about 11/2 years ago with Youtube and Pinterest links .
  4. I save my database and backups to Dropbox. I initially started doing this because I do not have a wifi printer so I have to log into my desktop to print but the added benefit is that my information is accessible at any computer with the HST+ software.
  5. The only time I have an issue is when I am pregnant. Then I cannot wear a watch.
  6. DH taught me when we were dating. He had an ex-California Highway Patrol 5 liter mustang and I was thrilled at the prospect. Then we spent 2 months in a K-mart parking lot getting the clutch-gas transition just right. When we finally went out on the road I thought it was wonderful. I enjoy the feeling of connectedness to the vehicle but alas I fall into the can't get a mini-van with a stick catagory. Hubby's truck is a manual and I get to drive it occasionally to keep my skills up. We will teach our DD on the manual first. We believe that learning why and when to shift gives a great understanding of how the vehicles work and make sure they do not get stuck somewhere because they can not drive the vehicle available to them.
  7. The subscription is to Plus Online right? I paid the $60 for plus and have it forever and get free updates. I did not like the online version. It did not have all the features that make HST+ useful to me. They have done some major upgrades to it and I have not look at the online version recently.
  8. I have not seen the weeping angels yet but this exchange it so sweet.
  9. I had a co-worker that had one and recovered fully. She was in her mid-thirties and ruptured during dinner one evening. It was a long road but she is back to the woman she was before. There was sometime, when her brain was healing, that she was....well, altered in her personality but she did come full circle. It is a tough thing but there is hope. It might not take a long with a teenager. The young heal faster.
  10. I am only just getting back into Dr. Who. I watched the 4th with my mom when I was a kid. I did not like it. Boring. I love Eccleston and was not ready for a regeneration yet. I guess he was a little sarcastic but I did not find it off putting as I kinda expected that from the character due to his knowledge of the universe. The companions seem to be what soften him. I had only seen David Tennant as Barty Crouch Jr. on HP so I had no idea what to expect. But we are closing in on the end of season two ( just finished the weird TV lady episode) and he is growing on me. I have not seen any Matt Smith but am sure that we will continue on with the series. So any Ideas who the next Dr. will be?
  11. Oh Yes and I keep telling myself that would be too messy. All that hot oil and stuff.
  12. I love them! If I could get them anywhere other than the county/state fair I would be in trouble. I love the "Bavarian" cream with chocolate sauce.
  13. My DD12 would not wake to nurse and after a failed 4 day induction, then a c-section and no BF support I gave up. I have a cow reference but it is not a nice one. My Dr. told me tand I quote, "There are meat cows and milk cows and you are a meat cow." NOT the best thing to say to a emotional first time mom at her 6 week appointment. When DD5 was born I was bound and determined to nurse and it was a sweet time until she self weaned at about to. But I still laugh at think about the LC tell me, "Tips up!" to help with latch.
  14. My DD 12 is in the middle of Phase 2 now. She had her phase 1 at 7. She had a large gap that was not closing and her eye teeth were starting to come out pointing straight out. She had them for about 6 months to close the gap. We never had a cleaning problem. She wore a retainer at night for about 18 months, until it cracked because it was now too small. The ortho said not to worry because most of her adult teeth were in at that point and ff the shifted they could fix it in phase two. She is now almost done and we do not have to deal with this during high school. I would much rather spend the money on curriculum in high school than braces. We paid about $3650 out of pocket total.
  15. I like popsicles!

  16. :iagree: This what we do. It is approx $15.00 for a 3lb bag. It last us 2-3 weeks.
  17. My DD is 12 but she does have a phone. It is not WiFi capable so she has not internet access. The texting is blocked from 8 am to 3 pm M-TH, 8-12 on F. S & S it is on from 7am-9pm. Every night from 9pm to 7am it is blocked. We live in an area where we do not get voice signal in out house so that is a non-issue. She and her friends are aware that I will block numbers if I believe that they are abusing phone privileges. She got this phone because she traveled with out us to Disneyland.
  18. My DD just had a benign tumor called an osteo (osteoid) osetoma removed from her fibula. They are rare, small hard to find and the only presenting symptom is pain. The can happen on any bone in the human body but most often happens in the long bones. Most likely to happen in boys but girls to get them. They usually show up in the second decade of life. My ped did not see it in the x-rays but the reviewing radiologist did. MRI confirms diagnosis. It just looked like a hump along the edge of her bone. There is no known cause and if left they can resolve themselves in 3-8 years. Most can't stand the pain that that long. They are very responsive to NSAIDs. So much so, that it is part of the criteria for diagnosis. (That is how we found out DD is allergic to Motrin) There are great minimally invasive treatments with no hospital stay needed. It may not be this but it cannot hurt to ask about it. It is rare so some Peds may not know about it.
  19. My DD left for camp just today. She does not have allergies but it is the same camp we use for our AHG spring campout. We have two girls that are GF and one that has a dairy, egg, melon and nut allergy. We went out to the camp (which is not far from us) and met with the chef. I could not do anything less. The health of my girls is important to me. I took the moms because they know the issues I do not. The way they do it is they have the kids walk the buffet line with the parent or the counselor (with a list) and get what they can from it. Everything is segregated. But if say they are having french toast they then go to the kitchen serving window and ask for the GF version of whatever they are serving. The retrieve it from a safe space in the kitchen. He took us back to where they prepare it. Separate space. He has multiple people working there that have food allergies themselves and he has researched himself and makes a lot from scratch. They take food allergies very seriously at Mt. Gilead. They had a young lady come that had a list that was half a page long of issues. They placed her picture in the kitchen to make sure they did not hand her something she should not have. This girl had had a terrible experience just the week before camp where they went out to eat and the server absentmindedly wiped the silverware with a towel that had come into contact with nuts and she ended up in the hospital. She was terrified to come. They fed her well and she had come back year after year. So sorry for your frustrations. I pray that this resolves so he can go. BS camp is so much fun....so i have been told. :001_smile:
  20. I changed a lot from my first post so I am reposting. LA: WWS, Kilgallon Grammar for Middle School, Wordly Wise 7 Logic:Art of Argument Math: MUS Pre-Algebra and AoPS Pre-Algebra. Need to cover some concepts in MUS that AoPS assumes knowledge of. Science: Apologia Finish General Science and start Physical Science History/Literature: Omnibus 1 with Primary and Secondary Reading. We are going to take this at whatever pace DD needs. Latin: Latin Alive Bible: How to study your Bible by John MacArthur and Fundamentals of the Faith also by John MacArthur.

  22. We started it in Jan. with my 6th grader. It was a bit of a learning curve for her to pick out the instructions in the reading. She soon realized she had to actually read it all because she would miss things and have to redo things. I would not have given to her in 5th grade not because she could not do the assignments but because she did not have the maturity and ability to extract the instructions.
  23. So true. It is different when the child is being corrected and is in a process of being taught or cannot, for some reason, control himself. But when this type of behavior has been displayed and allowed by the mom and nothing has changed it is time for more straight forward talk to set boundaries with the parent. ETA: Punctuation!
  24. I agree with the PPs that you have a right to have your own standards upheld in your home. Granted some grace can be given for certain things like I the art during dinner. I would assume that she was trying to keep him busy. But the poop is not something that is negotiable nor the climbing on the table. Those are health and safety issues. I would have a one on one get together with her and spell out (kindly but firmly) the rules in your home. Tell her that you understand that she has a different philosophy on child rearing than you. However, you cannot compromise on certain things for the safety of your children. She abides by your standards of childrearing at you home or does not come over. You can also segway to that because she cannot provide a 99.5% (accidents happen) poop free environment at her home you will not be bring your children there either.
  25. I wonder if they need to reprogram the sleep apnea machine to match your restricted lung capacity. If it is working based on full lung capacity that might explain why the excess air ends up in your tummy.
