  1. I salt and pepper my meat, sear it in a hot frying pan with a little olive oil, then finish in a hot oven if needed.(depends what doneness level you want and the thickness of the meat) This is my go to method for various kinds of meat, especially if it is really good quality meat. Lamb, for me, always calls for mint sauce. Not mint JELLY! Yuck. I had to search high and low (finally found it on amazon) for proper British mint sauce. :drool5:
  2. I am anemic and for years was told to take an iron supplement. I would take the common one found in the stores which is usually Iron Sulfate. It still did not work well and I found my self during, this pregnancy, really ill and my test indicated I was at and 8. My Ob told me to take ferrous gluconate instead as if it is more readily absorbed into the body and is less likely to cause the bowel issue most iron supplements cause. It has worked like a charm. I take 325mg three times a day. Jenn
  3. Congrats. I can't help with the morning sickness but DD1 turned 7 two months after DD2 was born. I am now 36 weeks with #3 and DD2 just turned 6 this month. We were also not trying but not preventing. ETA: took out a thought that did not make sense and my prego brain could just not say it right LOL
  4. Laurel-in-CA is one of my leaders. We meet 2 times a month for 1.5 hours. The Tenderhearts complete 5-6 badges per year.
  5. Depends on how much contact you have with National. We have minimal contact unless we have a question. We run at about 35-40 girls and have all 5 levels. But we are a long established Troop (1999). We were the first troop outside of Ohio. As has been stated AHG Inc. will put you on the national list so if people are looking for a troop in your area you will get an e-mail request for more information. Jenn CA0158
  6. I dropped spelling in the middle of 4th. DD12 had been in Abeka (at school) through 3rd and I realized about 1/2 way through Sequential Spelling that she have never gotten any of the words wrong. She is and still is a natural speller. She does love Vocabulary so we do Wordly Wise. She uses WWS for writing and if I notice any repeated misspellings then we address it.
  7. My situation is a little unique. My husband is in law enforcement so considering what he sees on a regular basis he worries. Considering he is in law enforcement I worry a little. So we text. He always send me a text when he gets off shift and is on his way home. I always text him when the kids and I get home from the days activities. He works swings, so is not home in the evenings. Neither of us look at it as control but this habit does spill over into our social activities. We rarely go out separately but if we do we text a couple times just as a quick check in. We look at as meeting each others needs.
  8. The other issue with having married adults together as your 2 deep leaders is that spousal privledge. They cannot testify against each other. In AHG they count as 1 there must be another registered leader that is not related.
  9. In AHG is is start (5) to finish (18) even if the girl turns 18 during her final year.
  10. In April, I will have DD13, DD6 and a newborn. My girls are excited. The 13 and 6 fight and squabble at times but they love each other! Do what is right for your family and I am so sorry that MIL couldn't keep her 2 cents to herself!. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  11. By the way, anything Frozen is at a premium right now. I went the Disney store because I thought they would have a better selection for DD5's birthday but was told by the cashier that Disney underestimated demand and things are hard to find. Target, Walmart, Toys 'r' Us are all basically sold out. The prices on line are stupidly high. So I would not judge Amazon prices by the cost of Frozen things.
  12. I just used the book and the Solutions manual. You don't have to us the test but the answers to the study questions are in the solutions manual. The student notebook was not available when we started. I had my DD us a composition book to make her own lab book.
  13. Not on a train or in the rain!
  14. We were in a Co-op that split the grade for science at k-6 and 7-HS. She was bored to tears in the younger grades class. So half way through she moved up and thrived. But she only did a small part of the middle of the book. So for 7th we went over it again from the beginning I used it to teach study skills she needed. We had not done a lot of unit tests so she had no skills to do the study questions and then take a test. I knew she could do it but she had no confidence. We started doing open book tests then around module 4 I suggested she do it without the book just to see and she got everyone right. :) She was so pleased with herself. Also a vital piece of advice I got was the 1st module is rough. It is the history overview of modern science. A lot of names of scientist and such. Seems very dry. This how it worked for us but my daughter could have easily finished it in 6th grade if we had started in the beginning of the year but she learns very well by just reading and is very independent.
  15. I am a Jennifer born in the early 70's. It is not the name itself I did not like as a kid. It was the lack of individuality in school that bothered me. In each class I would have no less than 3 and in third grade there were 6 of us in a 20 person class. We were military so it not the same Jennifers each year either. I have run into all manner of spelling, Jenifer, Jennifer, Jeniffer, Genefere, Genifer, Gennifer, I could go on and on. I have gone by Jenn (always with 2 n-not sure why) since college. Dorm manager I worked for called me that and wrote it like that and it stuck. I DO NOT like being called Jenny. Not that I mind anyone else being called Jenny is has always just rubbed me the wrong way when used for me.
  16. We are finishing this this year at home with great success. I would not pay that kind of money for middle school science.
  17. Do you have access to your accounts via a smart phone or tablet? My Chrome also shows me all the history of my browsing on my phone and tablet Jenn ETA/: but is does not say which entry is from what device
  18. Top Gear UK. I just love James, Jeremy and Richard. Stig too. Weird I know!
  19. Well, here in CA we are having the worst drought in recorded history. I think we would take some of the snow and ice in a heart beat. :(
