  1. My DD12 has been like this since 4th grade. Luckily, her reading comprehensions is very good. There have been bumps in the road but by allowing her to be independent (I set the assignments though) she is now starting to come to me to discuss and go over her subjects as they are getting more challenging. She has always been my "I do it myself" girl.

  7. How it's made is a staple around here. I just forgot it. Pawn stars is too. Gold Rush, Man Vs. Wild too
  8. DD 12 loves Top Gear, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Futurama, Star Trek, Mythbusters, Sparticle Mystery. DD5 loves Word Girl, Wild Kratts, Rugrats, Daniel Tiger, Monster Math Squad, Any of the Sonic the Hedgehog shows, and of course My Little Pony.
  9. Do you have a big enough pan that you can sear it on the stove and then put it in the oven? I do that to get the yummy crispy brown on the outside then finish it in the oven. Not sure about the time. I just kinda wing it.
  10. Here are some I found. Not sure what expensive is in your budget but most of these are 60 inches wide on this first link http://www.snydercreek.com/Formal-Fabric-page-2.html http://www.rockywoods.com/Fabrics-Kits/Satin-Dress-Fabrics?search=satin
  11. It depends on his activities. I do not have a High School student yet but a friend of mine has had two sons that compete in a home-school speech and debate club and due to the timing of their birthdays could still compete if they stayed in HS. If they got their diploma it would disqualify them. So she had them do what she called a super senior year.
  12. To protect privacy I will not state how were came into contact with these names any further than to say we are a law enforcement family. One girl was named Gonorrhea because her mom thought it was pretty. One girl named Easter and her last name was..........................................you guessed it Seals and then there was the lady who got mad because her no one said her kids name right. It was La-a. She kept saying the dash ain't silent so this child name was actually pronounced La-dash-a. eta:typos
  13. You iron? You are a better woman than me. :)) My whine: I am 6 months pregnant and my iron level is very low. The scale on the test is from 22-291 and I am 8. I am so tired and non-functional but my family does not seem to understand that. ACK Doctor want me to take a certain kind of iron pills I have to take 325mg 3 times a day. The only bottle I can get locally is 27mg. That is 12 pills per dose. On an empty... stomach......while pregnant. Oh and I can't have an wine with my whine. :cursing: OK vent over.. As with all things this too shall pass but with all this iron I think it might take awhile. ;) P. S. Wow I managed to talk about 2 different types of iron in this post LOL :D ETA:Typos.
  14. I see that makes sense. We do fundraisers (2 per year) to allow the girls to cover the dues and other costs. End result is the same but different approaches. :) But we will at some point have to adjust how we raise funds due to the girl account issue. We have been around 15 years and it is hard to change but we are working on it bit by bit.
  15. How do they cover the costs of badges, supplies etc? Do the charge the parents for each individual thing they do? $5.00 barely covers the cost of the badge and shipping for it from national. What about the National Support fee per girl that is due each year? We charge $120.00 a year and that covers all cost related to badge work done by the unit including level awards, badges, supplies and third party cost like fees for tours or swimming pools etc. We do 5-6 badges per year. We have found that to be less than Little League, Dance or most of the other activities available to kids these days. It averages out to be about $13.50 per month. Fun activities like Mother/Daughter sleep over and Father/Daughter Square Dance, and our campouts are charged separately but we keep that as close to cost as possible.
  16. “Tea! That’s all I needed! Good cup of tea! Super-heated infusion of free radicals and tannin. Just the thing for healing the synapses.†— Tenth Doctor Tea make all things better! :hurray:
  17. For boxed salad mix I put in a paper towel to wick the moisture away when I open it. I change it everyday.(mostly.) It has double/tripled the time I can get out of it depending on how quickly I am eating it. Tightly packed moist salad greens rot very quickly. I have not been able to get this to work with bag ones though.
  18. I am the Troop Coordinator for AHG Troop CA0158. We were the first troop outside Ohio. This fall will be our 15th birthday. All orders go through the troop. Pm with any questions you have and I will send you our e-mail and I can send you forms we have created etc. May God bless your troop!
  19. On the the Wii go to the Wii Shop channel from the Wii menu. Download the app for amazon and then follow the instructions. No disk needed
  20. I would say no. This will increase our amount of garbage. We haul our garbage to the dump and this would increase our costs but I would say no even if we had garbage service because it would fill the can very quickly.
