  1. I've had 5 children and have a low cervix. The only brand I've ever used is the EvaCup and have had no problems. I agree, it is life changing!! Truly!! It is likely a brand issue. EvaCup recently had a 2 for $30 sale on amazon.
  2. I think I have been to the same conference. My opinion is very much like yours!! The family in question still has an active blog. Is that correct?
  3. Dh would prefer our dc not to watch Harry Potter. He has no problem letting our older children watch Dr. Who. So I guess, we are that family.
  4. Location and culture matter. Small towns likely have more extended families living together. In high school I lived in a town with <1500 people. The town now has closer to barely over 500 residents. Our elderly neighbors' 40 year old daughter lived with them. Later she stayed on their land in a trailer house. It wasn't weird at all, nor was she a deadbeat. It just didn't make sense for her to have her own separate house. And, no, she didn't live there to care for them. And, yes, they all worked. Elderly neighbors sold a food product that is now in major stores and daughter was (a nurse?).
  5. Dd is 19 and most of her peers still live at home while attending university. I can think of 7 colleges off of the top of my head within a 30ish minute driving distance. Why would one pay to live on campus when one can live at home and have a 15 minute commute?
  6. While my state has no graduation requirements for homeschoolers, many choose to follow the local school districts' requirements to keep future options open. It makes it much easier for college and trade school entrance.
  7. I agree with Lana. You need a car and the neighborhoods she mentioned are the better options, whilst still being an easy drive to the zoo.
  8. Overnight crockpot oatmeal for breakfast. Fill a small mouthed, quart sized mason jar to the top with oats and add a pinch of salt. Then add sugar to the brim. At night pour oats into the slow cooker and refill the jar with water 2x, dumping contents on top of oats. Place lid on slow cooker and turn to low. In the am turn to high an hour before eating. Kids can serve themselves and bonus if there is left overs. Just serve the left over, pre-cooked, cold oats straight from the fridge the next day. You can pre-make these and store in the pantry. Tacos with meat cooked in the crock pot and rice in the rice cooker. Pasta salad with pasta made in the rice cooker. Rice salad (made just like pasta salad, but with rice instead) Shish-k-bobs on the grill Soup Chili and/or frito chili pies Chicken cooked in the crockpot and shredded then served in all manner of ways Chicken on the grill then sliced and served in all manner of ways
  9. It can be done, difficult though it may be.
  10. It varies by state. In our state the legal term is private kinship, in other states private kinship means something else entirely. I, unfortunately, have quite a bit of personal experience with this and would be willing to converse via private message.
  11. When dh's brother died a couple of years ago we split the costs. Each sibling and both (divorced) parents paid toward it. All by choice, no one was asked to contribute. Later we were given a small amount (from insurance?) to pay us back with a little extra. I am assuming it came from the small estate or car insurance because it was a fatal, weather related, wreck.
  12. Check out the Daily Connoisseur. http://dailyconnoisseur.blogspot.com/
  13. Quite a few of my family members are military. As far as I know they were all voluntary. My father went to college partially to avoid the Vietnam draft, but he would have likely gone anyway. My step-mother's family are Quaker and as such could've avoided the draft, yet many joined and served. I am not a fan of the draft. At. all. Well said!! I agree with (most of) the above!! Unfortunately a large percentage of the population would likely not qualify, so if we were to institute a draft, our country would need to loosen some of the rules or the potential pool of draft-able people would be significantly lower than the drafting board would like. I do disagree about a gender-blind draft. (This is not in response to the above quote, just my personal beliefs.) Men are more equipped physically and emotionally. I have no problem with women choosing to join the military, but have a huge problem with women being required to fight, especially on the front lines. I know many disagree, but it is my belief all the same. :leaving:
  14. For those of you with lactose intolerance you may still be able to eat some dairy. Cheeses, especially aged ones, have significantly less lactose, whilst milk and ice cream has significantly higher amounts. We are able to eat cheeses and select dairy products here, well, except for one of our kiddos with a true dairy allergy.
  15. Is is possible a menstrual cup works as a pessary? I have a uterine prolapse and use one during my cycle. My prolapse seems less pronounced than it used to be.
  16. Yes, the pediatrician should've done it! Urgent care would be the next choice. It is absurd they wanted you to go to the ER! And we wonder why the waits are so long when there is a true emergency.
  17. Welcome to the boards! Phonetic Zoo is the way to go! It may take many times to get through each lesson, but that is okay!! Don't have an expected finish date, just do the next lesson when it's time. You won't regret it.
