  1. Bumping this up....anyone take the AP European History with PAHS - I believe it is Mr. Steele who taught this year. Anyone have any experience or feedback? Please PM if you prefer. :) Thank you!!!
  2. I know this is an old post. But considering Western Civ II with Lisa Hawkins this year....anyone have any feedback at all. Please feel free to PM. Really need some help as I am struggling to figure out Dd's 10th grade year... Thank you.
  3. In case anyone is looking for Mr Dally, ASL teacher, he posted on the Facebook page. Additionally, he sent out class registration information emails tonight if you are interested in continuing with him for Spring semester for ASL. Classes start next week! :) If you need his email address, please PM me. Happy to help. Or you can check the Facebook page and just search "dally" -- posts about his classes and his personal comments will be displayed. He doesn't have everyone's email addresses so you will probably need to email him in order to receive a registration email.....
  4. Good to know. I had DD signed up last year for this course but we dropped because she was going to miss too many classes and didn't want to take recorded version...wondering if that was a mistake :( I have heard amazing things about the teacher; I think her name is Kathleen Brian? I communicated with her via email about DD and she was very helpful and seemed amazing. Feeling like we may have missed out but happy your DS's writing improved dramatically. Nice to hear the success stories and about the classes/teachers people like! DD is in Blue Tent English this year and we both REALLY like the class! :)
  5. As far as AP Psychology goes, I used "prep scholar" & reviews on Amazon to choose prep books. We went with Barron's and 5 Steps to a 5. What I liked about the site listed below was that it provided the pros and cons of books and highlighted what was best for a certain type of student. I also like that it is pretty current. http://blog.prepscholar.com/best-ap-psychology-books I believe they also list other sources for other subjects and such. Half way down the blog page is a search box on the right side, just enter the "subject" and "prep book" and it gives you the recent blog with recommendations. Good luck!
  6. My DD14 took Lukeion Latin 1 last year and loved it. She had not been exposed to Latin previously; however, she did take the Witty Wordsmith class with Lukeion the previous year so she was used to the "Lukeion way!" :) She actually cried when WW was over because she LOVED it so much. My DD spent an average of 7 hours on Latin each week (ranging from 5-9 hours depending on the material and such). She did everything that was required (created flashcards and did them daily, played the provided Latin games, the homework, studied for tests/quizzes, etc.) DD is very thorough and somewhat efficient so I think Lukeion's time estimate is accurate. She loved the structure of the class and the teachers and really LEARNED a lot. She also took the NLE and did very well on that exam, which I attribute to Lukeion AND all her own studying (She studied about 30 hours for the exam). DD is signed up for Latin 2 next year. I highly recommend the class and Lukeion but only if your DC can commit the time...hope that helps. Happy to answer any other questions.
  7. Hi MamaJulie, Thanks so much for the information--very helpful! For my DD, who has major test anxiety, can you and your DD elaborate a bit further on the test info..."The tests were tougher than she expected, but she was able to adjust and figured out how to better prepare." What made the tests tougher than she expected? Did the teacher provide a study guide or anything of the sort for the tests? Was the material on the test covered in class and the text or was there "surprise" material that students weren't aware of? What type of tests were they (m/c, t/f, essay, matching)? Any ideas or suggestions on how to prepare for the tests? Also, did your DD use the accompanying videos on Conceptual Academy? Anything else you recommend to help with the class? How kind that Mrs. Brinkerhoff reviewed the students' papers prior to them submitting completed papers :) Thank you for the recommendation and help! DD is excited about the class but she is also a bit nervous. This will be her first WTMA class; we just ordered the lab kit and now have the text.
  8. No problem. I just didn't want to be presumptive. :) We would love the free credit if you still have it and I would like to purchase a credit from you too. I will direct message you with my cell. Thank you!
  9. Hi Mustard Seeds Mum, I have been looking at Landry Academy for a while but it was a little pricey for us too. My daughter has been wanting to take American Sign Language and I see they are offering a course next year. It would be great to try out Landry & ASL. I wasn't sure if you were offering the free semester to someone? If so, we would love to try this out. Also, how much would another generic semester cost to purchase from you? My DD would be interested in taking the Full year ASL class so we could use the introductory semester and a generic semester to complete the class. Please let me know and thank you so much! :) Liz Friedman
  10. I have been looking at DO Geometry for months now. Because of the mixed reviews, I am hesitant to pull the trigger on the class for my DD, who is entering 9th grade too. We really like the look of DO's classes and I think they would be a great fit but I am not sure about the Geometry. I also need math that takes me out of the feedback role. :) I know we will definitely start up with DO for Algebra II if we don't use him for Geometry. This past year, DD used FLVS for Algebra I and it was fine but I like the look and feel of DO better! Taryn, if you have any thoughts on the DO Geometry course after your son has used it for a while, I would love to know what you think. I would love to finalize her 9th grade year :) TIA
  11. I noticed that Blue Tent Online is offering Geometry this year using Jacobs Geometry 3rd edition. I don't know if there are videos within the course but they are using the text and have an online asynchronous class. We have not taken the course--we are considering this and Derek Owens for next year. http://teacherweb.com/USA/BlueTent/Thompson/apt40.aspx
  12. On a side note, does anyone know if the AP Test scores are automatically sent to the colleges your DC applies to automatically or do you get to choose which scores are sent to which colleges or if at all? Thank you.
  13. HI. Dd is signed up for class. Still hesitant based on some of things discussed here but might move forward. What else did your child use to supplement her studying? Do you recall approximately how many hours a week they spent on the class? Thank you.
  14. Ugh! I have already registered Dd for class in the fall. Made the erroneous assumption that "all" PA Homescooler AP classes were great plus I read "the reviews" on the page. Not sure what to do!? If she doesn't answer questions and doesn't grade the student's work I am not sure what I am paying for either. 😠Did anyone feel they got enough from the class to do well on the exam? Did your child actually do well on AP exam? My Dd is a complex thinker too.
  15. :lurk5: I was also planning on using Derek Owens Geometry for Dd next year.
  16. Not sure of the budget available but Well Trained Mind Academy (WTMA) is an option as they cover all the core areas and more....http://www.wtmacademy.com/courses/
  17. Thanks again. This is all the info we need! You and your son with both very helpful!
