  1. Ok. It is official. Dd put the online provider code (which was only 3 digits) in the school/homeschool section J and on front of student pack. She said she asked AP administrator and he told her to do that. Clearly that is wrong and I don't know what to do now?? I know administrator was very overwhelmed (he administers 100s of AP tests during these 2 weeks as it is a very large school). I am afraid he won't care or won't respond to my email about changing it due to reasons listed. I did email him. No response thus far. So basically she has NO school code because it is just the 3 digits that probably don't make any sense and probably won't be read correctly. What will happen if this doesn't get fixed? Will she be assigned to a random school? Will we not receive the results? Is there any other way to correct this?? Feeling anxious and sad. 😪 Edited to say that DD took AP Psych exam Monday.
  2. Mirabillis-what is this code for---I am starting to have a small panic attack! I don't think DD put a FL Homeschool code on her paperwork? Is this the same code as the school class code?? UGH! She was told to put the class code down for FLVS which was 006. Was she also supposed to put down a code stating she was a homeschooler?? Please help. I might need to try and get a hold of the AP Coordinator if it is not too late....
  3. I am so sorry this happen to you, Yvonne, but I am so glad it worked out! :) Good luck to your sons on the makeup date! :)
  4. Gr8lander did you feel the PAH course prepared her well for the exam? How was the course/teacher? Organized? We are considering this exam and course for her Junior year (currently a Freshman) and would also love some info. My dd has not had a huge amount of theory; although she is a singer (since she was 4) and plays a piano/guitar/ukulele (as a beginner).
  5. Mirabillis this is exactly how I felt yesterday! It was very nerve-wracking...it was like the first day of Kindergarten...watching them walk away into the abyss of unknown! I LOL (so I didn't cry) when I started to walk daughter from the office to the gym and the office lady said, "Mam, you can't walk her to the Gymnasium," while that same lady did a double-take at dd and I know she was thinking how old is that child? (see below). However, I was thinking, "Ok, but how will my direction-challenged dc ever find her way?" I ran out the front door and watched dd through the iron bars (yes, it is like a prison gate). Dd found her way fine, made friends and participated in a mini-study group before the exam started, and sat right under the BIG clock in the gym (so she always knew what time it was); she was surrounded by hundreds of kids. She was also worried about where she would sit (she mentioned later prior to the exam that she imagined sitting in the bleachers of the gym-ha!). I enjoyed her stories afterwards. :) Some students thought she attended the school and told her what teachers to take next year (very nice), EVERYONE asked her how old she was, no one could believe she was a Freshman (she looks 12!), and everyone wanted to know WHY she was taking AP Psych as a Freshman? Because homeschoolers are awesome! Hope today continued to be awesome for all!
  6. DD is finally home from AP Psychology exam - they ran an hour late! However, she felt very good about the exam! Yay! Hope everyone else had a great day too! :) Now, DD is reviewing for Lukeion Latin 2 final and will take it on the dreaded "do not take the final on the last day" day! Ha! Best we could do with everything that was happening over the weekend and studying for Ap Psych....slowly feeling the release of stress and pressure! Phew. Good luck over the next 2 weeks to all the exam takers!
  7. Hope today is going well for all! Can't wait for it to be over...feeling anxious! Awaiting dd's call for pickup when exam is done! :)
  8. Best of luck to all the AP Exam students! I know they will all be amazing! :) And then we can all sleep again! Ha!
  9. We love Blue Tent English Classes. If you search on this site you will find many reviews about Blue Tent & Brigid Thompson. My DD is enrolled in Brigid's AP Language class next year and she loved her Honors English 2 Class this year. It looks Blue Tent AP Language is also full but it doesn't look like there is anyone on the waitlist yet. I have heard in the past that being first on the waitlist is a good place to be....could give it a try? Good luck! You register on the tuition page but here is a description of the class: http://teacherweb.com/USA/BlueTent/Thompson/apt21.aspx
  10. Hi. I did a quick google search and came up with Khan Academ? Offers word problems in Algebra 1. Maybe poke around on there and see if you can find some videos that help. Here is link to one of the sections I found. I remember seeing others on Khan too. Maybe more in Alg 1 7 some in Alg 2 https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/one-variable-linear-equations/alg1-linear-eq-word-probs/v/basic-linear-equation-word-problem
  11. My daughter has really enjoyed and learned a lot in Mr Dally's ASL 1 class. He taught at Landry and is now on his own since they shut down. Next year he is teaching ASL 1 & ASL 2 through Bright Ideas Academy (link below) and on his own (link below). He is also teaching summer immersion classes in ASL this summer in 2 3-week sessions for 1.5 hours a day. However, his classes are Christian based (they use the bible to do some translations, etc.). We are not religious but my daughter doesn't mind as she just considers it another text source she is learning about in a class. Here are the two links: https://academy.brightideaspress.com/?s=ASL&post_type=product&type_aws=true https://www.aslyoucando.com I also know that Homeschoolconnections.com offers ASL too. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  12. I have not used the curriculum but it looked interesting so I googled a few different key words from the curriculum (Tom Jones, Ron Paul, homeschool, courses, etc) and the only thing I could find (besides self promotion) was this discussion: http://homeschoolreviews.com/forums/1/thread.aspx?id=119001 *Ron Paul Curriculum = Tom Jones Courses & somehow Gary North is involved or writes the curriculum ?? I found other articles too but I wasn't sure how biased they were (or if they were actually true) so I am not linking those articles.... maybe try googling too. I had to go through several google pages before I found some material because there is a lot of promotion of the material that seems to "look like a review" but really isn't.
  13. Do students get a different AP Pack & student number each year they take exams or does that original AP Pack and number carry forward for all AP exams taken over the various years? Thank you. (edited to make my question more clear :) )
  14. Thank you for all the info and research! What does your general "gut" say? Will you move forward with the course? I am considering FLVS course and 1 other and possibly another course. Not sure which one I am leaning towards....want to show DD all the different texts first.
  15. Any luck finding any info about the stats and such? Hoping someone sees this thread who took AP's with Memoria Press. I emailed Scott Piland (found on website) about general topic (not AP class specific) and he was very kind in helpful. Might email him specifically about the classes but I was just hoping to find someone who took the classes so I could ask a few more questions. I just found recordings of some of the classes. Not sure if this will help? https://www.memoriapressacademy.com/catalog?pagename=previews Although, I know that the APEH teacher is different for next year. However, the APUSH teacher is the same teacher listed under the General US History - Mrs. Baldwin.
  16. This sounds like a good plan! DD was planning to take it in 2019 anyway! Thank you for info on Music Theory! Also, did you happen to talk to anyone in the APUSH department? Did you see the sample lesson online at FLVS?
  17. Great! Also, noticed your kids take Music Theory--where do they take that course and if it is provider how is it? DD needs music theory too. Thanks!
  18. Also, just found this link that describes APUSH on FLVS: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-student-topics/1914355-how-is-ap-us-history-on-flvs.html
  19. Has anyone used Memoria Press Online Academy for AP US History or AP European History? Anyone familiar with Julie Baldwin (teaches APUSH) at Memoria Press Online? Please feel free to PM if you would rather not share publicly.
  20. I literally had the SAME question! DD loves AP Psychology with FLVS. We are also looking at APUSH for next year and possibly AP Govt in another year or two. I have scoured the internet and you find some good and some bad reviews about APUSH. It is hard to know what to believe but I think some of these reviews depend on the student and the teacher and sometimes the material that FLVS uses (which really is no help in making "this" decision!) DD has always had amazing or great teachers (with one exception) on FLVS, although we know others that haven't had a great experience. She has taken a few other non-AP course on FLVS and has found some of the curriculum to have some holes or erroneous info; however, the AP course "seems" to be thorough and well- organized and there is only a "little busy work and silliness" (what we like to call it). But DD is type of student that just wants to know what material she needs to learn and get it done in the most efficient way so FLVS AP Psych is working for her. Now, I won't be able to say for certain how the course prepared her until she takes the exam but for now she is happy and enjoying it. Will update after the exam.... I am leaning towards APSUH with FLVS (but am still investigating options) and praying that there is not a lot of busy work because I know reading the text is time intensive in APUSH. I checked the text they use for APUSH and it seems decent but it is not the version recommended on the AP Textbook list on College Board (Foner, Eric. Give Me Liberty! An American History AP Edition, 3rd Edition. W.W. Norton & Company, 2013.). FLVS seems to be using the "brief" version (Foner, Eric. Give Me Liberty! An American History. Brief 4th ed. New York: Norton and Company, 2014) of the text according to the details page of the APUSH course. That concerned me a bit. Not sure if we might try to use the AP text with FLVS or see how their text is? Plus, I am not certain if the FLVS APUSH course was updated to reflect the change in the exam that happened in 2015--might email FLVS counselor about that?! As far as AP Language goes we are using a different provider (Blue Tent Online Brigid Thompson-LOVE this provider) as DD's only bad (FLVS) experience was with English 1 Honors (however, it was taken with PBVS, not FLVS so part of it was that;; however, PBVS uses FLVS' curriculum so part of it was FLVS because we didn't care for the curriculum at all!). Please let me know if you find anything more on APUSH. Thank you!
  21. Sorry Mirabillis! I saw US History and thought it was the Advanced Course-was the elective US movie course.....sounds like your plan to stick with WTMA is a good one! Hoping Daijobu sees your question about WTMA history! :) Looks like her DD is taking Renaissance and Early Modern World History. That is the course my DD is interested in for next year and I would love more info too about the class itself (enjoying), workload, etc.
  22. Thanks, RootAnn! I tried to message Halcyon but was unable to. I posted on another forum post where she references OnlineG3 so hopefully she will see it! I always had the same impression about OnlineG3; however, since they are now accredited and a-g course approved I was wondering if some of the class dynamics have changed. Some of the "advanced" offerings (US History, World, Biology) are aimed at teens who are working at an advanced high school level and the courses are using college texts. So I am hoping that maybe those classes are a bit different in rigor but still interesting and fun. Still trying to compose my email to the director at Onlineg3 (keep getting distracted) and will post her response if its applicable. :)
  23. I see that your son takes classes at OnlineG3. I was looking over their website recently and saw that they are now accredited and offer Advanced History classes. I was wondering if you could share your experience using them as a provider? How the classes work - I see there are weekly webinars but is there some other platform they use too? How are the weekly classes structured? Teaching or more discussion? Rigor of classes? Amount of homework? Grading? Just general thoughts? I was considering either their advanced World History or Advanced US History for my DD who will be in 10th grade next year. Feel free to PM me - I tried to message you but it wouldn't let me send you a message. BTW - I live in SFL too!
  24. I spent hours last night looking at ONLINEG3's a-g approved courses and the accompanying textbooks. I am just not familiar with the provider and always thought the classes were for younger kids. Can you provide me with any information on the provider? Rigor? How much work? How many hours a week? Teachers? IF your child enjoyed the class? I don't know anyone who has used G3 and I had previously read other reviews on the board from years past. I know they were recently accredited and provide the a-g courses. Any recent experience would be super helpful....particularily with the Advanced World History and Advanced US History courses. Thank you! :)
  25. Not sure if this will help - list lots of providers: http://www.knowledgehouse.info/online.html
