Looking into logic curriculum for next year and my key need is budget friendly. Are the dvds necessary for Memoria Press’ Introductory Logic (and the following books)? Could we do the curriculum without the dvds?

I am working on plans for my DD who will be starting 1st grade soon. I am planning on using Memoria Press for a lot of it. However, I am questioning if I should add WWE 1 and FLL1. I really liked using those with my older kids and am questioning if there is enough of that covered in MP curriculum. I am also wondering if the overall load is to much. Take a look and at what I am planning and give me your honest opinions. Thanks! My son, 10th grade, is currently in Traditional Logic 1 w/MPA. Looking at Memoria Press Academy's schedule for next year, there is only one unattractive fall option for TLII (time-wise) and several good options for spring. But, Material Logic has a good time offer for the fall. It's not a big deal about taking ML in-between TLI and TLII, is there? Thanks, Rachel

I am trying to decide between these three different U.S. History online classes from: Memoria Press, The Potter's School, and Well Trained Mind Academy. I would really appreciate it if any who have experience with these gives me feedback. I'm interested in knowing: 1. amount of reading per week 2. amt. of writing per week 3. View of America: a. Traditional, but balanced (aka Larry Schweikart-Patriot's History) b. Progressive (aka Zinn). 4. Teaching style 5. Very discussion-oriented? My son would enjoy one that has an emphasis on discussion and philosophical/sociological m

We have used parts of Memoria Press curriculum for Kindergarten and First grade (mostly using the lesson plans, copywork, phonics, literature suggestions). We use our own math program. We did not use the New American Cursive 1 book last year because my 7 year old had broken her arm in the fall and spent much of the fall not able to write. When it was healed we just did printing. So, this year, do I need to go back and do New American Cursive 1 with her or do I just do the suggested New American Cursive 2 book that is listed in the 2nd grade curriculum?

We are considering enrolling our son in Memoria Press' online First Form Latin class for next year. Does anyone have any recommendations for teachers, or feedback/suggestions to us in choosing a section and instructor? This is really important to us, as it will be our son's first online class. He also does best with written material, and has a little more difficulty with information presented orally. So we are looking for a teacher who is not a quick/loud talker or encourages a classroom with a great deal of commotion. The sections we are looking at primarily list Paul Cable and Cather

Hi, I have been looking at FIAR or MP Enrichment programs and am having a hard time deciding which way to go. I would like to add some gentle picture book studies to my daughter's schooling this year as a supplement to her other studies. Memoria Press Enrichment / Read-aloud programs are for JR K through 2nd grade and have correlated lessons with picture study, science, social studies, poetry, and music for one picture book a week. Five in a row has art, social studies, science, literature, geography for 15-20 childrens books a year ages 4-8. They are both similar, yet incorp

I'm looking for thoughts on differences/ preferences of one version over the other, specifically for the 13 Colonies/Great Republic. I apologize if I missed a thread on this already; I have searched but not found much other than people mentioning that there are two versions. In a very old thread, I found someone who said they thought the MP version was much better, but did not say why. If you have a preference or have seen both, any details would be appreciated!

I've enrolled dd#1 in Memoria Press's online Second Form Latin class for the fall. Do I need the DVDs too? She's doing First Form Latin with me doing it along side of her, going through flash cards, quizzing her on the grammar, and watching the DVDs. Opinions from those whose kids have taken the online classes?

My ds LOVES birds! We construct bird houses, bird baths, bird watch, Cornell site, and read about them. I was looking at MP's bird study but wasn't sure if it would be busy work for a slow writer. Has anyone used it with a younger crowd that could enlighten me? I was also thinking of just buying parts of it (no workbook) and using notebooking pages to act as his own made up workbook. http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=BKOBRD Any thoughts you would be willing to share? Thanks!

My sweet husband and I sat down and talked out our various program options for this coming school year and have finally made a decision- together! I am so relieved and feel like a huge burden has been lifted. I am also very grateful for this forum as it has been the most supportive spot for all things homeschool I have found. Also, for the first time, I using the program as- written with very few additions. And I will not browse curriculum online or open my rainbow cataloug....really. :001_smile: I hope all of you reach a similar place of peace. School decisions are TOUGH!

Our daughter is 6 and just starting to read short words. We do have some reading curricula already. What she has been liking best is the First Start Reading books from Memoria Press. She likes the drawing component most, but also some of the copy work. And the large print size is great for her, as she doesn't see well. Yesterday I was lucky enough to find a number of "Explode the Code" books at a library sale, for $1 apiece. So of course I bought them. :) Can anyone help me understand how they work -- I know I'm missing books, but I'd like to try to fill in the gaps if possible a

I'm switching from a literature based curricula (SL) to a workbook based one. Huge change! I hope to see more writing and contemplating on paper more than has been required of her to this point. I personally need clear guidelines for all subjects. We would both appreciate a daily schedule so both of us can feel successful. I am looking forward to the blessing of actually TEACHING her instead of spending additional time working out a schedule. I think my biggest worry: It won't be fun. MP wrote an article about just that very topic...page 40...Summer 2013 issue. Thoughts?

Hi all! I am really being drawn to Memoria Press for next year. I need something that gets done, and I like their emphasis on recitation and review, as well as their selected books. I'd be looking at the 3rd and 5th grade set, probably combining the boys in Christian Studies I and Astronomy just to streamline. I'd also stick with MEP and SWR instead of Rod & Staff. (I don't think I'll get the 1st grade set, unless it's just the reading package.) I was going to do LCC next year, but MP has most of what LCC does, and it's all planned out for me. I also like CM. Reading books slowly. Arti

Has anyone used this? My second grader loves Beatrix Potter stories, so I've been searching for some fun guide to use with the stories this summer. I suppose my perfect guide would have cute little projects (sort of like the Veritas Press lit guides), but I get the feeling that this Memoria Press guide is more "work" and less "fun" in terms of what it has to offer for the stories. Is it just reading comprehension questions and vocabulary?

I've read most of the threads tagged First Form. Many of them were dated 2010 & 2011. (I checked sigs and didn't see many people continuing with the 'Form series. What happened, people?) I'm looking at ordering First Form for eldest dd next year. She's completed Prima Latina & Latina Christiana I. She's doing the LC I games book this year to keep from getting rusty. Should I get the DVDs? (This dd doesn't do well yet working on her own & she didn't like tthe PL or LC DVDs.) Should I get the grammar charts? Should I get the flashcards or have her make them? (We made them for
