  1. Interview question ideas & audition day specifics & dance questions— ask on the thread I posted above (3rd link Class of 2024 sharing, venting, discussing—not in Michigan thread, believe it or not. There a lot of parents on CC MT page that have been doing this a long time and they will guide you. Here are some ideas of questions asked that a musical theatre coaching organization shared: https://artsbridge.com/how-to-ace-your-college-admissions-interview/ also, ask the music timing question on the same thread, but usually if the song is in cut time you can do more bars. Usually 32 bars is 60-90 seconds so if it is 54, that is absolutely fine. Also, mark the cut—where to start and where to end on the music—and have son do what KLmama suggested with Accompanist.
  2. Congrats to your son. There is a lot of info on Musical Theatre auditions in general on College Confidential. Here is the main page: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/categories/musical-theater-major/ There is also this thread about audition day experiences from this year (there might be one from last year, try searching). There is nothing on Michigan yet but someone might post something soon: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2169484-the-class-of-2024-audition-day-reviews-p1.html Lastly, you can try posting and asking your question on this thread. There are many, many parents from the past that will share their DC’s experience. Plus as klmama suggested try searching college confidential under the musical thread I posted above—so much info! https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2134474-the-class-of-2024-sharing-venting-discussing-mt-p52.html Break a leg! P.S. There is also a group in FB called MT Parents. It is a closed group of parents with high schoolers going through the process for BFA Musical Theatre. You can join and search the page or ask the question there too. Any other questions you might have can probably be answered on that page or college confidential. Those are the two spaces where most MT info is shared.
  3. Hang in there, Mirabillis! Mine is a tight two pages and it is personal. It highlights traits and topics that are not covered anywhere else in her application. I also considered what her LORs would say and tried to address other areas. Good luck!
  4. It believe it is brand new this year. We just saw it on the website 2 weeks ago too. Sadly, daughter was already registered (& paid for) elsewhere so we couldn’t entertain it as an option, especially since we LOVE Blue Tent!!! Sorry I couldn’t be of more help but I don’t think you will find any reviews.
  5. I heard back from Coalition...sigh...they did not help at all and clearly she did not read what I wrote. She took pictures of the ACT homeschool code (969999) both my DD & I manually entered in our school names and said that the CEEB code was populating correctly (nope, I just entered it as part of the school name). But it is not...those wouldn't show there if I didn't manually enter them. She disregarded what I said about the other codes showing up and did not address the issue or provide a fix. For instance, on my DD's application preview it shows her school as this. School (ceeb): Home School (ceeb: 969999) (991099) So essentially it shows two different CEEB codes together - the one I manually entered and the one that is populating (the wrong old florida homeschool code). I give up. I don't have time to go back and forth with them. I have been dealing with this for more than a week. 😞 I don't know what will eventually print on the paperwork that gets sent to the colleges, so I am just hoping that it least always shows the manually entered ceeb code I entered and not the wrong one they keep generating and don't even realize they are doing it. I have one other fix I am going to try on Coalition and then we are moving on and will put the CEEB code on all of our submitted docs. The Common App is AMAZING. Everything works beautifully and the right Homeschool code populates and is included on all the documentation they submit to colleges on my DD's behalf. We have found one small issue on a specific university app that applied to every applicant, so my DD wrote to common app and they fixed the app within an hour or two. Good luck to you!
  6. @Penelope Do you know what CEEB code populated for your child in their applicant account? My concern is that ours don't match. I did check "homeschooled" too and it populated the 999999 code for school not found. I have not heard back from Coalition yet. I will post any updates. One issue I have is that one university says they will not accept any documentation that does not have a valid CEEB code. Ha ha - there are CEEB codes but every single one is different.
  7. Has anyone use the Coalition App to complete any college applications? The CEEB codes are all messed up and I am not sure what to do? If DD should just submit applications with all the crazy codes (how much do they matter) or wait to see if Coalition help desk ever fixes it (not sure how long we will be waiting because they don't see it as a problem)? I contacted tech support once about the CEEB code for the counselor side of the coalition app because it would not populate the CEEB code of 970000; which I thought was the universal homeschool code. Turns out that Coalition uses CEEB codes from ACT, so the code SHOULD be 969999. However, that is not happening either. When daughter took the ACT, she checked a "homeschool" box (you do not enter a code) and then it automatically populated to reflect, I guess what is now, ACT's universal homeschool code of 969999. So that is the CEEB code (969999) that is on her ACT. Which is different from the College Board CEEB code of 970000, which is also on the COMMON APP. However, the bigger problem I am now running into is that Coalition App is listing various codes for Homeschool (applicant vs counselor) and none of them are the same--they do not even match the ACT's universal code of 969999. So far, these are the codes that are populating: -Daughter's coalition app: 991099 (which is the very old Florida homeschool code) (We put in the ACT matching CEEB of 969999 in the school name field so that at least matched her act test but now it has two codes listed next to each other- -The school name field it shows Home School (CEEB 969999) (9910999) -My counselor coalition acct: 999999 (which means the code is invalid) (I also typed in CEEB 969999 in the school name field so at least something would match but again now there are two codes listed next to each other) -The school name field it shows Home School (CEEB 969999) (9999999) Since a code of 999999 means an invalid code I wonder how it populates if it can't find the counselor's school. I imagine it is going to get very complicated for the colleges to decipher what CEEB code is the right one for my student, my counselor account, and other homeschoolers (not even considering on other apps it is reflected as 970000 (college board)). Does anyone know if B&M schools normally have a variety of different CEEB codes (one for College board vs ACT, etc) or are they the same? How much do these codes matter? Any advice on which CEEB code to use? Should I just leave the code (969999) I manually typed into the name field there, despite the population of the other crazy codes that are no longer valid? Anyone deal with the coalition app previously? Any help is greatly appreciated?
  8. Dd took AP Lang (non-fiction) last year and is taking AP Lit (fiction) this year--her favorite subject. Different classes, different material as mentioned above. The classes teach very different techniques--very different styles of writing. Some of the schools Dd looked at give AP credit for both courses, some only give credit for one. She has throughly enjoyed both courses so that has been a bonus!
  9. DD will most likely take the AP exams for any APs she takes as she wants to get college credit and it is supporting documentation for her final transcript. She will not have three or four though.....her college application process will be much different as she will be applying for a BFA which requires auditions and more so I can't load her down with numerous APs! 😉
  10. I also highly recommend Blue Tent & Brigid Thompson! Super organized, very clear expectations, asynchronous, encouraging and helpful feedback! Also, the kids in the class are super! DD is currently in AP Lit now and took AP Lang last year with Blue tent and prior to that took Honors English 2--we are BIG fans. If I am remembering correctly, everyone in Blue Tent's AP Lit class scored a 4 or a 5 on the exam last year. 😃
  11. @StarfishI know you mentioned the MT boards on CC but did you search or post on the "Theatre/Drama Majors" board within CC? This is found by going to College Discussion / College Majors / Theater/Drama Majors. There are a lot of "discussions" under this section! There is also a thread under the Theatre/Drama Majors called "BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support; " this is where all the acting majors seem to discuss auditions and other questions relating to anything BFA Acting related....I am sure you can post something under this thread about your audition at belmont---not sure if you have time to read the pages and pages of posts but they might be helpful. Break legs to your daughter!
  12. HI!!! Miss talking to you! School is going very well this year! Loving Blue Tent AP Lit & Mr D Pre Calc and she is self studying for APES & APUSH (with approved syllabus from College Board) plus ASL and other fun electives 🤗 Hope your school year is going well! Glad to hear all is going well with Edhesive AP Stats! Didn't realize the price went up to $600-$700 with no teacher!! Think we will pass especially since DD was not a fan of Adhesive AP Gov format and such. Might look at PAHS AP Stats or FLVS but thank you for the info on the course and for the heads up on the cost! Glad DS is learning and hope all goes well for AP exams--sure I will chat with you before that! Have a wonderful Holiday Season! 😄
  13. Thank you so much for your speedy response! I will check back in with you! I was trying to get a jump on it because I keep seeing things about having to select AP classes early this year due to College Board's new timelines.... 🙂 Appreciate the help!
  14. Beginning to think about which AP Stats class DD will take next year....@mirabillis and @daijobu how is the Edhesive class going? Any things you love? Don't like? Thorough? Easy to grade? Pacing? Work load? Any interaction with the actual teacher (Mr. Porinchak) or just via the videos? Also, I see that it is an approved AP Syllabus so are you listing it on DC's transcript as an AP class? DD took AP gov with Adhesive and didn't love it and we ended up switching so I am a little gun shy of taking another Adhesive class but wanted to see how the class was going for your kiddos? Thanks so much! **edited to add a few more questions.
