  1. We live in Florida and just received DDs PSAT scores today in the mail. Just in time for Christmas! 🎄🤪
  2. How about OnlineG3? They have an Advanced World History or a World History though Movies....I know the AWH is a year long but you sign up by semester. More discussion based classes. You can add writing and grading to AWH class. They are accredited. Daughter just took a Theatre in America class this year and enjoyed it. We eventually plan to take the AWH class. https://www.onlineg3.com/product/advanced-world-history-a/ https://www.onlineg3.com/product/world-history-through-movies/
  3. I never heard back. I am glad you did. Makes it kind of a worthless product for those in North America because most of the videos are BBC!!! 😭 Thank you for letting me know! Maybe Homeschoolers Buyers Co-Op will refund you? At least, make them aware of it. Maybe they will remove product or at least put a notification so people know before purchasing.
  4. I wanted to concur with Mirabillis' review. We also registered for PA Homeschoolers AP Human geography (APHG) last year. Fortunately, after 2-3 weeks of a terrible class experience, we dropped the class and received a partial refund. This is definitely a very unorganized self-study "class." While we didn't complete the class, what we did experience in our limited time was certainly not worth $700. The website ("classroom") was fraught with typos and incorrect dates, jumbled and unorganized info throughout the site, and overall chaotic, unorganized environment. There is NO teaching and "overall grades are at her discretion" (super concerning) plus you must complete a class review before receiving your final grade. The books used are dry and uninteresting. Dr. Gillespie's book about the Appalachians was poorly written and repetitive; sadly, it was one of the worst books I have ever read. Her book was forced upon on us and mailed directly to us with the $20 due upon receipt with no warning despite me already purchasing it from Amazon. I had to pay to mail the second book back to her. :( I cannot recommend this AP Human Geography class either. Disappointingly, my daughter is now very hesitant to enroll in any PA Homeschoolers classes despite knowing there are some other good ones available.
  5. Hi. So are all the BBC Studios Shakespeare productions unavailable to anyone in the USA? Did you try calling the USA number on the website (646) 652-0150 - maybe it is something they can fix for you? They must have changed their website over the past 6 months or so - I have been looking at this product for years and haven't checked it in a while and I am not loving the new website. The study guides seem to be missing from the link on HSBC too - not sure if they are completely missing from the website? The website seems harder to navigate for a "homeschool family." It only seems to allow trials for schools. Edited: I just called over there using the USA number and was transferred to someone in London! She took my name, phone, email and stated that someone would get back to me regarding access of the materials. Will keep you posted.
  6. In Florida, we have Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and homeschoolers can choose a "flex" option or a full-time option. The flex option allows students to take up to 6 classes and there is structure and accountability but not "strict" deadlines (i.e. depending on the class you need to turn in 2-4 assignments a week but they don't care when you do them or turn them in as long as it is during the week. They are also allowed 2 weeks vacation). The FT option is basically the same but I think there are a few extra requirements but I can't be sure. It is an accredited institution. In Florida, we don't pay for these classes 😜; however, they also have a global/international option that allows students outside FL to take these classes but they are a bit pricey.... I googled "Ohio Virtual School" and got a few hits (Ohio Virtual Academy, etc). Maybe there are similar options in Ohio and then those credits will most likely transfer into public school. FLVS classes transfer back to the public school and a lot of PS kids take classes on FLVS if there is a schedule conflict. Hope that helps! Good luck.
  7. This is great to hear as my DD is registered for the Physics class this year. Teacher seems very organized as we have already received welcome email, syllabus, and other related documents for the class. Excited! :)
  8. You could label it "British Literature w/Composition." 😜 Sounds like a great line up!
  9. I can't answer your question but I just wanted to say congratulations to your daughter! That's awesome! :)
  10. AEC - I can't be sure but I was asked to enter DD's AP#, not the high school code. It was the number on the stickers contained inside the AP Student Pack-it's an 8 digit number specific to her for this years AP exams. Try entering that and see if it works.
  11. Thank you!! Madteaparty my DD took FLVS's (Florida Virtual School - it's free for us) course. It was basic but gave her a foundation--it was a straightforward class and she learned a lot but she did every nook and cranny of every lesson in the course and read the text provided thoroughly! Then she self-studied for the exam (the course didn't really offer official exam prep like some AP courses). She did very well in the course - the graded items alternated between tests (that mimicked the mc portion of AP exam) and the lessons where she wrote practice FRQs, plus they had to keep a running journal of vocabulary words that was submitted with each unit. For exam prep she used several AP Psych prep books - I think Barron's was the main one but what she also did was look over every previous years' AP exams. If she found any material she didn't know she would look it over to make sure she wasn't missing anything. I think doing intense review of the past exams was very helpful. She practiced writing a lot of different FRQ's and would compare them to the answers that got a 5. I think she also "pretended" to grade exams to see how she would score them; this helped her understand exactly what the examiners were looking for as far as items that scored points. By doing this exercise, she said she learned how to get all the points for each FRQ.
  12. Scores are out today for some! Yay! Good luck to all! My DD15 took her first AP exam -- Psychology -- and found out this morning she received a 5! YAY! We are so excited and happy! :)
  13. Somehow I missed your comment. My DD15 was also the only freshman and homeschooler at our testing location. :) She took AP Psychology as her first AP too. DD is away at Summer Intensive and started crying last night on the phone she was so anxious and worried about her score (I think she was also tired and hungry! Ha). She also knew the material in and out, backwards and forwards and knew FRQ2 too! Yay for both of them! Was a relief to see the 5 score this morning. Best of luck to your daughter! I am sure she will do super well.
  14. We used the trick of signing into her account as well. It worked 😜 DD15 got a 5 on AP Psychology. Phew. She took it on FLVS (see detailed post about class & prep used on #46 below). Good luck to everyone else! edited to reflect online class used for course....
  15. Same for us. DD would love it but would need it next year or latest the year after. Thanks.
  16. This looks like an awesome resource! Thank you for sharing. :) After reviewing the site, I can only find "CLEP" courses and not necessarily AP courses. I know sometimes those exams (& courses) cover different material or at least somewhat. Where you able to find the AP classes? Or do you think they just mean that a student can use what they are calling the "CLEP course" to study for an AP exam?
  17. I still haven't completely figured out next year's classes so I am glad the discussion is coming again. :) There is another 10th grade thread from earlier this year in case anyone wants to see some of those posts too.... http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/633878-pls-share-your-10th-grade-courses/
  18. How do we find a school's score distribution? Hope all you amazing moms had a SUPER MOTHER'S DAY! Edited to add: MD comment
  19. Thank you so much for all the info! Will have to think it through and figure it out!
  20. Ugh. This is terrible news. We had planned to do it 2018-2019. :( Already has other APs for next year. Ugh. What to do? What to do!? :(
  21. This was super helpful info! Thank you so much! Thank you so much for the help and support!!! ;) I didn't have any news (& am still sort of in limbo but feeling more optimistic now). I called CB and they were very helpful and nice about it. They stated that it was best to try and get it changed at the school as they cannot change it once it is at CB. I attempted calling and emailing the AP Administrator at the school but didn't have high hopes of hearing back. Today I called the school's general guidance office and explained my issue and they put me in touch with one of the other Guidance Counselors. She was happy to help and said she would look into it and get back to me. She thought it was something they could easily fix and she was happy to help out their overwhelmed AP Admin person! YAY. Waiting to hear back but thinking all will be well! Additionally, when I spoke with CB the individual actually gave me the old Florida AP code (991099) because that was the school code on my daughter's file from the PSAT10 (which she had just taken 2 months ago). Since I was aware of the change from this board, I inquired about the code changing and stated that I thought it now ends in an 8. She double checked and yes, it had changed. SO for FL APs the code is 991098 (as noted above) and for SATs/PSAT/etc it is 991099. Nothing like making it simple! Thanks again to all for the help and reassurance. You are all just awesome! :)
  22. So sorry to hear this - I hope all goes well for her today! As well as all the other kiddos! :) That is a great idea!
