  1. I've been using it for my ds6, and we really enjoy it. It's a nice, light covering of US history that gets done around here! My dd8 listens in for the readings, and she also does the state study with us.
  2. No, you are not weird! It makes my stomach turn just reading this thread...Thankfully none of mine did that (at least that I ever saw).
  3. You could make flour tortillas like these: http://www.texasrollingpins.com/tortillarecipe.html
  4. This didn't work for me. I really want to get it, and I can't figure out what I could be doing wrong!
  5. I have purchased the multiplication one, but I don't see the addition one available yet. And I'm on their email list, but I haven't received an email either. I hope it's available soon, because my son can't wait!
  6. I drove myself crazy (and spent so much time) trying to separate categories. I finally just decided to figure out how much money we had to spend each month on *everything* (food, clothes, gifts, etc.). I subtracted our monthly set bills from our income, determined how much we had left to spend (after savings), and then had the amount. I decided really, I don't care where it is going! As long as I don't overspend it's good for us. I also try to withdraw that amount of cash from the bank. It makes it much easier to monitor how much we're spending.
  7. I bought the app for my iPod touch and I'm really liking it. It's easy to hide tasks that don't apply to me and to add tasks. I like being able to color code specific tasks for my kids and get them to help. I tried the printed list a few years ago and I didn't like it nearly as much.
  8. I like to put PDFs on my kindle instead of printing them out. I haven't done a lot, but I do have the answer key for Math Mammoth and the teacher's guide for Elemental History on my kindle. That saved me a lot of ink and a lot of trouble! I like that when I open one of those files, it takes me right to where I left off. I don't have to search to find the right page.
  9. What about something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Bling-Jewelry-Unisex-Sterling-Wedding/dp/B004IAWY48/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1324328499&sr=8-9
  10. I just finished it and I loved it. I stayed up late every night reading it until I finished it. I agree, books about the Holocaust are hard, but I'm glad I read it.
  11. I don't make them as gifts, but I do make a ton for Christmas Eve. I have frozen them, both pre-cooked and not, in the past. If I was going to give them as gifts, I would cook them and then freeze them. That way the recipients can just steam them for about 15 minutes or so to re-heat them when they are ready to eat them.
  12. When my second dd was less than a week old, my first got really sick (high fever). Of course she'd been holding/kissing/all over the baby right before. The baby never caught it! When I mentioned it to our doctor, he didn't even seem surprised. "Of course, you're breastfeeding," he said.
  13. You *can* get dark chocolate with no dairy! I am dairy-free and it's a lifesaver. : ) I'm sorry it feels so tough right now, though. If you don't want to lose weight, I would suggest eating nuts and avocados. It works for me.
  14. I have a food stealer too. It's just become normal to us! We know to carefully guard the food at all times. It's ridiculous! : ) What type of dog is your food stealer? He looks like a hound, but I can't figureout what type.
  15. Thanks for the link! This looks great, and I just ordered it!
  16. I also watched this movie, after I read the book "The China Study". I've been eating a plant-based diet since then (about a month and a half or so). I hesitate to call myself "vegan", however. While at home, we eat vegan. If I'm out, I do the best I can and figure what I miss falls into the "5% animal protein" category. I feel great. If you haven't read the book, I'd recommend it. I thought it was a lot more convincing then just the documentary.
  17. I'm sure it depends on how much snow you get, but I had a 2WD Toyota Sienna with brand new studded snow tires, and it didn't work for me. We traded it in for a 4WD Toyota Sequoia and it does much better in the snow. I still miss the van, but in the winter I'm *much* happier with my Sequoia.
  18. Good for her for figuring it out now! It's so hard to decide what you want to do when you're young. I have a degree in something I don't (and never will) use. Much better to figure it out now and make a change!
  19. We have used one of those. It worked well. Ours attached with sticky velcro. The one linked only fits up to a 36" door, but at $4.95 each, maybe you could just overlap two of them?
  20. I haven't started using mint.com yet, but I have two IRL friends who are using it. It's working well for them. I wondered about the safety/security of using it, but my friend's husband is a computer guy and so I figure if he's using it it must be pretty safe. I just haven't gotten around to setting it up yet. It seems like an easy way to manage your money.
  21. Yes, it's easy to customize the menu plan and to search for specific things, like gluten-free.
