  1. I have both of her cookbooks, and I still subscribe to the service. I like being able to just look at the menu for the week, swap out any recipes that I don't want to make with a different one, and print out a grocery list. I find we save money because I shop for meals and have all the ingredients needed on hand. I'm not tempted to go out to eat, because if I do the food I've already bought will go to waste. $15 for 6 months is a great deal! I would say try it out. I love her recipes. There have been very few that we didn't care for. And even with both cookbooks, the service is worth it to me. It's so easy to plan for the week!
  2. I have no experience with MTM, and I've only looked at Kistler online (although I do have one of his books). We do, however, *love* Atelier! It has been very easy for us to implement, my kids love to do it, and I've been very impressed with the art they've created. I have recommended it to many friends IRL. I don't think you can go wrong with Atelier, especially with the deal at HSBC right now!
  3. I have bought the cheapest laminate that Home Depot carries, and it worked out to $1.10/sq. ft. Pretty cheap! I'm not sure the sticky tile is much cheaper. I did it myself. It looks good and has held up well since I did it at least 4 years ago. You do need access to some power saws.
  4. I've had food poisoning from rice, too. My brother, a public health microbiologist, says it's very common. Worst food poisoning ever, and I do not ever want to repeat it!
  5. Our Hoover Wind Tunnel only lasted a few years. It was great while it worked, though. Now I have a Miele.
  6. We haven't had this problem with ours, but a friend of mine has. Chickens can be really mean to each other! One of hers was injured by a hawk. She separated it from the others to heal, and after a week or so she put it back with the others, thinking it was healed enough. The next morning, the others chickens had pecked the recovering one nearly to death. They had to put it down. So I would just say you need to be prepared to deal with an injured bird.
  7. I seem to remember that passage as an especially hard one. I would just keep going. Some passages my dd loved, and some passages she hated.
  8. I really like them both together. We started using OPGTR this fall with my 5 yo, and as soon as we hit the lessons on blending sounds together to make words, he just couldn't do it. I stopped and he worked through the Get Ready, Get Set, and Go for the Code books (Books A, B, and C) and that really helped him. Since then, we've been working through ETC and OPGTR together. They fit together nicely in my opinion!
  9. I've used a topical lysine ointment that seems to help. I picked it up at the health food store.
  10. I'm a GS Leader. Our troop is all homeschoolers, because we meet during the day. I don't think you'd have any trouble finding girls to join your troop, especially at that age level and if you're willing to meet after school. Your council may even have a list of girls who want to join a troop.
  11. I love my cheap Wal-Mart laminator. I have printed Math Mammoth at home and had it bound at Office Depot. It was about $4 just for the binding.
  12. I have a Lunette cup, which is silicone like the Diva, but shaped a little differently. I first had a Keeper and it just didn't fit right. I could feel it. I *love* the Lunette cup, though. So I would say if one isn't good for you, it might be worth buying another type.
  13. Yes! I'm with you. I would never eat it. One of the worst cases of food poisoning I've ever had was from some rice that sat at room temperature for a few hours on a warm day. (Toxins that the microwave would not have affected.) I am *so* careful with rice now! I do not care to repeat that experience. Ever.
  14. I ordered mine online, but I have seen them at a small natural food store I go to since then. I *think* Whole Foods carried them, but I'm not sure.
  15. Another vote for BFSU. I started using it this year with my K and 2nd grader. I love the approach to science. I'm learning, too, and I was a science major! The approach is completely different than any other science program I've seen. I like the flexibility of the program, and both of my kids *love* science now. (And my 6th grader can even join in when she wants.)
  16. I just bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Calm-Cool-Headed-Strategies-Parenting/dp/0982345402/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303525837&sr=1-1 on amazon, and I'm liking it so far. I'm not very far into it yet, but it got great reviews.
  17. Sometimes I'll type the whole lesson on the computer in a different font and also make it larger. The capital "I" that looks like a lowercase "l" always confuses my ds5.
  18. I have used both of those programs, although not together. I would do MM 4 days a week and LoF one day week. That sounds like a good plan!
  19. I switched my dd7 about halfway through RS C to Math Mammoth 3A. It has worked very well for us! You might look at MM 2A or 2B after RS B.
  20. A professional pet sitter charges me $65/night, or $30 per visit if she's not staying in my house. I've also paid a neighborhood college student $40/day to either stay here or come twice a day. We *do* have quite a few pets, though. (That's why I don't go out of town very often!)
  21. I sucked my index and middle fingers until I was 13 (!), and it never caused problems with my teeth. Peer pressure finally made me quit. I came around the corner at home sucking my fingers, and my older brother's friend saw me. I was horrified because his younger sister was my friend and he told her. That was it for me!
  22. I looked for this one today because it sounded so good, but it contains "Alcloxa", which is an aluminum salt. I don't know if it's the same as aluminum in regular anti-perspirants, but it was enough that I didn't want to try it.
  23. We did FLL 3 after FLL 1/2. If you've finished WWE 2, then WWE 3 would be a good choice, too.
  24. I used MUS with my older dd, and I like RS so much better! I'm using RS A with my DS this year. We spend about 20 minutes on math each day. We do 2 lessons per week, and play games the rest of the week.
