  1. We had natural gas at our last house, and we have propane now. Natural gas was MUCH cheaper. We can't heat our house very well on just propane because it's just too expensive. We have a wood stove that is great, but it's a lot of work. I would love to have natural gas again!
  2. If it were me, I think I would decide that it was time. (I have a 14.5 year old large dog whose time is nearing, but I'm not sure he's ready yet.) It's such a tough decision. But if he doesn't seem to be enjoying life anymore, then I think it's probably time.
  3. We just started using the TOPS electricity unit this week, and we are really enjoying it! I did buy the kit of supplies to go with it, but I didn't need to. I could have easily bought the supplies I needed at the hardware store.
  4. We always stay at the Desert Inn & Suites, which is about as short of a walk as you can get. I always hated having to fold up a big stroller to get on a shuttle too, so walking was much easier. This hotel has always been clean and very reasonably priced.
  5. They are adorable! A friend of mine was fostering five puppies for a rescue group this summer, and we ended up with one of them. (She also kept one.)
  6. I didn't know that. When I needed just one, I went ahead and ordered the set (one boy and one girl), and then sold the girl doll on eBay. The boy doll ended up costing me less than half the price of the set of two dolls.
  7. I bought a smaller Kitchen Aid food processor, and less than a year after I bought it, the top broke. I could only use it by holding it shut and pulling a safety lever. Luckily, we'd bought it at Costco and so we were able to return it. I bought a full sized Cuisinart to replace it. I like it much better! And if it lasts 23 years, I'll be thrilled!
  8. I'm so glad to hear that! I was thinking about you yesterday, and I've been watching for an update.
  9. Are these products you can buy over-the-counter? If so, I'd love to know what they are!
  10. I just saw it at my local Costco for $27.99 yesterday. I already bought it for $35.99 at Amazon, and I figured it wasn't worth returning, but hopefully this will help someone else!
  11. We like a product Whole Foods (and my local co-op) sells called Field Roast. It's delicious, and I serve it with traditional Thanksgiving sides.
  12. Thanks for the recipe! I have a bunch of apples and needed a snack for our Girl Scout meeting this afternoon, so I just chopped them up and added to the crockpot with some cinnamon. :)
  13. I use two things, depending on what I'm using the crust for. For savory fillings (like pot pies), I use Spectrum shortening. While it's non-hydrogenated palm oil, it's still not very healthy! For sweet fillings, like fruit pies, I use coconut oil. It works great! That is definitely my preference.
  14. We used to have rats and found the best cages were the Martin's Cages. http://www.martinscages.com/ They are pretty expensive with shipping, though.
  15. Thanks so much! I'd been eyeing this too, but I wasn't sure how much dairy was in the vegetarian plan. (We eat vegan.) With this deal, I figured it was worth a try! So far it looks great, and I'm about to run to the store for my 20 ingredients for the week, instead of spending hours coming up with a menu and grocery list! :001_smile:
  16. I had one for about a year. It worked well for me, and I only had it removed because my dh had a vasectomy.
  17. I also thought I would never spend so much money on an iPad, but now that I have one I *love* it! I bought a refurbished second generation ipad (right after the third generation came out) for about $350. I had thought they were always at least $500, so $350 seemed much more reasonable to me.
  18. We are using this book this year also, and it is working very well so far. It just makes more sense to my kids than other things we have tried!
  19. We got a puppy a few weeks ago. It has been 14 years since we got our last puppy, so I know what you mean about forgeting what to do! This is my favorite puppy book: http://www.amazon.com/Positive-Perspectives-Love-Your-Train/dp/1929242158/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1348013434&sr=1-1&keywords=positive+perspectives+love+your+dog.+train+your+dog I had been holding on to it for years, just waiting for our next puppy, and I recently lent it to a friend who got a puppy. Of course, we then got a puppy, rather unexpectedly, and I needed that book! I bought it the first night as a Kindle download. Our puppy had to be taken out at night for the first week, but since then he's slept through the night in his crate. When we're not home, he's in his crate. When we are home, he's either being watched by *me*, on a leash next to me, or in a larger pen in the kitchen. Good luck with your beagles! My very first puppy was a beagle. I can't think of anything cuter than a beagle puppy (except maybe two)!
  20. Good for you! I stopped doing my dh's laundry years ago. There was just so much laundry I could never catch up.
