  1. Per math class they spend about an hour per day. My daughter is doing AOPS NT and DO Algebra1 concurrently so on some days she does more.
  2. Not necessarily, some students come on a B-2 visa because they are visiting family and then end up going to school. I had an F-1 visa meaning I came to the US intending to attend school.
  3. I was an exchange student in 1984 and tuition to the school was paid through the program I participated in so this is not a new idea. Where do they think they will find enough eligible host families? I had a great family but out of the four exchange students at the school that year, two had to change families because it was not working out.
  4. Asynchronous would be awesome. While I love our exotic places of temporary residence, they do not mesh well with US time zones. My son's calc class will be at 3:30 AM and his physics class will be at 4:30 AM next year. I am not really sure how awake he will be though it says a lot about the teacher that this option was his first pick. We also find 90 minute classes are really difficult for sustained focus. My daughter is looking forward to your class in the fall of 2018
  5. Ha, I was going to post any course by Bob Brier. We just finished his "History of Ancient Egypt". We also like Daileader but I think his lectures are more complex than Briar's courses. He talks much faster than Prof. Brier and thus covers more material per lecture. My boys really enjoy him but I think my daughter at this point (rising 9th grader) might be overwhelmed.
  6. We are all right handed but my only girl is the strongest in math :-)
  7. Just received another notice, they are not alive but sent to be identified. I am sorry for the misinformation, I am just relaying news I am getting as I thought people here would like to know what is happening. Different sources seem to have different information. It is a horrid situation all around.
  8. Just got news that several of the missing sailors have been found alive. We are currently stationed here in Yokosuka so this hits very close to home. Edited to correct information.
  9. English: Honors 1 (Blue Tent) Math: Geometry (Derek Owens) Science: Honors Chemistry (Wilson Hill) Foreign Language: Japanese (tutor) History: Ancient History (Great Courses) Elective: Flight Science (hope fully, registration has not yet opened so I am not sure if the course will be offered) PE: Surfing
  10. DD will be doing: English: Intro to Lit and Comp (Blue Tent) Math: probably Geometry (Derek Owens) I had planned on Algebra1 but it only took her 4 weeks to do the first semester, so I think she will finish that by late summer. She is also doing Intro to Number Theory with AOPS which will be done by late August. Science: Physics through (Clover Creek) Foreign Language: German (making my own since she is a heritage speaker) History: Ancient History (Great Courses) PE: Dance Art: Ceramics
  11. My son only took the PSAT and then opted for the ACT. He did okay on the PSAT and very well on the ACT. He too finds the ACT a lot easier than the (P)SAT.
  12. Yes, my oldest was vaccinated and came down with it a couple of years later in school. He had a rather severe case while his younger brothers' (who were not yet vaccinated) infections were pretty mild.
  13. My boys currently go part-time because their Japanese teacher is a native speaker and the school has kilns and other materials that make a ceramics class much more worthwhile.
  14. Yes, I quit buying green bananas as it happened on various occasions.
  15. One to two cups in the morning - black, no sugar. Once in a blue moon I have a cup in the afternoon.
  16. Vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency can cause hair loss. Don't ask me how I know.
  17. Oh yes, more times that accommodate western pacific or world wide students would be awesome. My son's calc lectures next year will be at 4:30 a.m. next year - until the time change, then they will be at 3:30 a.m. Chemistry for my other one will be at 6:30 and 5:30 respectively. I have to say one thing I really like about WTMA is the delayed lecture option.
  18. I have several Billy Book cases. My 31 and 15 ones don't sag at all, the 26 one holds only paperbacks and I will throw it out when we move in the summer because it sags so bad that it really bothers me. My widest shelves hold my math/science books (think Zumdahl, Campbell and tomes of similar thickness), the narrow shelves hold the books we are currently using for class (mostly paperbacks but also some heavy ones like Miller-Levine). The 26 inch shelves also looks slightly different, we bought it used so while it resembles a Billy case, it may not be one even though we were told it is.
  19. We sent the scores for free because the schools my son is applying to want to see all scores anyway so there is no hiding low scores.
  20. Do you still have the receipt and if so, does it show the weight of the box?
  21. My son owns both but has never used the graphing mode, he just likes techie toys. I think he might use it in his calc class next year, not sure (I did calc with a simple scientific calculator). For the ACT, SAT... my kids were issued calculators at the testing site.
  22. Roadrunner, if you had physics you don't need the supplement. This is for kiddos like mine who went from nothing straight into Pre-AP Chem. He did well in the class but it was a lot of work, he definitely would have had an easier time if he had had a decent physical science or physics class prior(he took physical science at PS before we homeschooled). He will be going straight into their Physics Honors 2 class without prior physics, I guess he is one for punishment :-)
