  1. sadly I live in a state with the highestt percentage of medicaid recipients. I know the in-outs for this state. I thought I would throw this out there if your dad was in the military even non war he can get his meds trough the VA system much cheaper than medicare subs. We use medicare for my parerns primary medical stuff. My dad gets Health Spring (medicare plus insurance free) and we pay 350 a month for moms BCBS insurance. My parents still could not afford to live on there own without me doing the blue cross and the VA medications. They do not own a home but rent. My parents were nver responsible with money. I've been walking tight- rope taking care of them and still saving for my own retirement and keeping finacially safe. Good Luck! I feel for you. I have had my parents live with us a few times but our lifestyles don't mesh. We have property and at one time were going to build them something but realized that they do not respect boundaries enough for that to work.
  2. This is cool and funny. I grew up in the very legalistic church, small town within the bible belt. (born in 1970) They even thought aerobic workouts were sinning. My very couldn't' wait to leave rebel of all their up tightness just loves this. They would of been all about boycotting mattell. They boycotted Tide detergent because they thought its company symbol was satanic. They didn't go to movies or listen to secular music but all the girls got to play with hussy Barbie. I just love the irony. I happen to be a bit of tomboy. I only had one barbie doll and gave her Mowhauk and then a buzz cut. SHe was Rambo Barbie LOL My sister was the girlie one and had a few Barbie and the marie obsmond dolls.
  3. If the heart burn is not relieve by diet change or a 14 day dose of priolsec go see a doctor. This could be a sign of stomach and esophageal cancer. My mother had lymphoma of the stomach. It was caught early. I've had patients that report heart burn that it ended up being post nasal drip from sinus infection, heart attack, esophageal rupture, hernia and gall bladder attack just to name afew There are some obvious disease associated with heart burn but then sometimes its the unexpected Listen to your body go with the most obvious causes but if that doesn't work please see a doctor. try a prolsec regiment, cut out sugar and spice foods, hydrate your body, exercise your body this helps with GI mobility and finally sleep with your head elevated. This should help if it lifestyle and not yet developed into a more chronic condition Is this new onset or a worsening of previous intermediate heart burn if its moved up in severity quickly do not try to treat go on to a doctor the lining of your esophagus may already be really thin and leading to a tear/bleed or some type of ulcer
  4. I'm a few counties north of your area on Logan Martin lake. The rain stopped for a few hours this morning but its pretty much been steady for several days. My son's say at this point Alabama power is keeping the lake levels flowing so it shouldn't rise any higher but the draining system for the lakes and roads are not able to keep up. I'm not sure if the Tallapoosa is controlled or not but either way this states water shed system is overwhelmed. I'm glad your husband was able to make it safely. We are suppose to have a dry day tomorrow and more rain Wednesday then hopefully its gone. Praying for everyone's safety in all area of the country. There seems to be extreme weather everywhere.
  5. My area has plenty of flooded area. We are on a hill so its not hurting us personally. My sons are both with local fire department and they have been busy around the clock. I'm on the Coosa River which is controlled by dams but we are still at flood stages. The 100 year flood plains are under water This has happen in the past so the locals are prepared but along with all the water there are lots of roads that have sink/hole washed out. If the op is talking about Montgomery Alabama I'm sure the Alabama river is at flood stage also. We still are getting rain and its still in the forecast for several more days. We have several areas that only access is boats. Then some roads have non moving water that we are using jacked- up 4x4 to get around. We need the rain to stop.
  6. Simply sue had the links at the top. The blog was reported to google and the link to the episode were frozen. She posted that on her facebook. She came back later and added the links more hidden for lack of a better word at the bottom of the page. I just found them after watching the link below. I just watched the episode on the link below it was posted in the comment section of simplysue page after the original links were locked. I loved the series for all the vintage dress. It sometimes was written pretty cheezy but I got involved in the characters. I like how it all ended up. I would love to see another viintage series http://www.cinemixtv.ga/downton-abbey-season-6-episode-9.html
  7. I would also think early state dementia. I've also from personal experience watch my neighbor start getting this way. We thought it was just old age. It was found she had lung cancer that had metastasis to the brain. She only lived weeks after the diagnosis. I'm a nurse and also her daughter and we both didn't really look more closely. She had weight loss and other signs of cancer but we were not looking. I've seen this in the hospital a few times. We would get a older patients combative with other cognitive issues. the doctors all thought old age dementia but with further analyses found they had brain cancer.
  8. born 1970 poor family so first color tv 1980, first vhs 1984, saw MTV for first time at friend house 1983, riding in back of pick-up truck or sitting on top of car moonroof or t- tops, first microwave 1990, I took a tradeschool class and learned basic computer on an old apple. I also took typing class and stenography (got a lot of use out of that LOL) They were already using the mini recorder but I went to a rural Alabama school they were not on up and coming professions. I ended up going to college in my early 20's, got my first mini satellite dish 1994, first home computer 1999 When I finally moved up in the world a bit I realized that there were many things that I thought were new LOL that had been around. I didn't know dishwasher had been around for years. I was dang excited getting one with my first home. I also only knew one person that had a ice dispenser in the door. We thought that was cool. TV rabbit ears with 3 stations, party line phone, lying on top the back seat of car in window or sitting on console between 2 front bucket seats, leaving the house after breakfast and coming home with the street lights at night, no air-condition at home or car, getting a coke was a very special event going for fast food was a once a year big deal. We only used the car one day a week. We walked everywhere. The whole town was closed on Sunday. When I got sick one sunday my mom called the doctor at home. Then Mr david the pharmacist meet us at the drug store just to give me meds. We didn't have credit cards we had accounts at the drug store and gas station. We would just come in pull up and the clerk would ask do you want it on your account (gosh can you imagine this now). There was one last hold out gas station that continue doing this till 2000 for long time families of the town. Christmas trees were cut wild and decorated with paper ornament and popcorn. The tree lights were very large and got hot. (big fire hazard) We did get a disco light silver tree given to us after disco era LOL that was used for a few years. I don't miss the gold shag carpet and heavy dark green velvet curtain. The trailer I grew up in would of been a perfect bordello
  9. I live in the southeastern area of the US. I've only had 1 white Christmas in 45 years and it was about a 1/2 in covering the grass. Its a very rare thing for us to get any snow and even more rare to get enough snow that you could make a snowman. . This whole month the temperature have been in the 70's I wore shorts and sandals to a Christmas party LOL. We sing White Christmas and Winter wonderland then laugh and then we are thankful that we don't have 5 layers of clothes own. I like my warm temp. We average a winter temp 45-50 daytime so its not real cold. We only get very few below freezing days. So I'm enjoying the not so winter wonderland. We are suppose to actually get some winter temperature this weekend. I may get to wear my boots. We have crazy weather a week of heat, a week of cold, a few days of freezing. We don't have constant seasonal temp changes. They change with the jet stream sometimes it dips low from the northern portion of the US and sends us some cold and then we get a current from southwest of us and get some heat from mexico . Weather is really fascinating.
  10. I'm no longer homeschooling so I want be getting the new version but I just wanted to thank you. I still have the 2004 edition on my shelf. I graduated my baby this year. The old copy has loose binding/pages and has been well loved. I'm sure the newest edition will be just as coveted. I did give a negative to the weird review
  11. bought a GE profile and it stopped spraying 6 weeks later. I loved it when it worked :glare: THe repair guy came out said its could be the circuit board or the circulating pump. We are waiting on parts. Its still under warranty for parts and service. my last dishwasher was a Kenmore that lasted 20 years. My last fridge was a whirlpool that lasted 18 years. The current way things are made is subpar. I miss when thing were made to last not fill a landfield. I think its funny how we are so environmental smarter but make more junk now.
  12. I love York Pep. Patties and I call them by their full name because in my area there are several brands. I'm specific which one I want. I will tell a clerk I'm looking for the peppermint patties location or I may ask for York specifically. I've never heard them called York but I'm also in the south. We call all carbonated drinks coke where the rest of the US call them Pop. We are a culture all to ourselves LOL
  13. I haven't had the surgery but work PACU these days. We really encourage patients to go home and start moving within 8 hours post op. I also worked med/surg when lap surgery was new. The best thing to help move the "air" out of your body and start feeling better is walking. I had patients hating us but we had them walking the halls the afternoon of surgery. I know it seems mean but it really does help healing. I know you will feel like crap but hold a pillow and start small walks in you house make yourself get up every few hours. The longer you sit the more gas pain/pressure which stays at the surgical sight making the pain last longer. There is also radiating pain some patients feel in there mostly left shoulder. I really hope you have a quick recovery. I've had another type of lap surgery. The gas pain was hell. I had to make myself get up and move. I had 2 small kids so there was not much recovery time. Back in nursing school 25 years ago, We were told to look for gallbladder symptoms post partum it has been known for years that a gallbladder attacks happen post partum. I can't remember the reasons. :confused1: We did see a lot of postpartum women with gall bladder issues when I worked ER.
  14. I have family members that joined the king james only club. They believed all other bibles are cult devil books. They wouldn't even watch a bible on tape cause its not the right translation. They even refused to touch it at a christams party when the gift was being passed around. I have debated those family members and prayed they would get out that cult. There ideas separated them from family and other Christian. It was a cult. Now prayers have been answered they got out of the church a few years ago. THe family is back together. My little nephew doesn't tell people their going to hell. My niece and SIL are no longer trying to be the "perfect" bible wife. They no longer act like I'm jezebel for reading other scripture. I told them a long time ago. The word of god was inspired and the only if you want authentic bible then they both needed to learn ancient Hebrew and Greek. My BIL is a KJOnly preacher. I attended service to watch the kids in plays through the years. The church was covered KJO stuff. The sermons always had something about how some Christian family problem was because they didn't use the right bible. My favorite (sarcasm) sermon was the deacons son died in a car accident because the deacon' allowed a women to teach males in sunday school. Then another was how America is going to hell and god is punishing us for using devils corrupted version of scripture Even modern language when transcribe can get many different meanings. King James from my research was not a godly man but wanted to put some peace in his kingdom. Does the version sound poetic yes, is it perfect that's up to YOU personally interpreting from the original manuscripts. There are not many modern folks that do that. I just want to add that I am not calling all KJO people are cult member cause I don't know all of you personally and realize what I wrote last night was harsh. . THe ones that I know IRL would fall under many people definition of a cult. The them against the rest of world mentality. They separated from the family which happen to mostly Christians. They said were the only true Christians not being deceived by false bibles. They talk about catholic like the pope was the antichrist. I do try to show grace and not judge other denomination. We are all trying to live a Christian life and it will be different for each persons convictions. I just really have a 20 year history with the KJO movement in my area Sorry if I offended anyone
  15. http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/05/us/oregon-umpqua-shooting-survivor/ Eye witness not second hand information confirms that the shooter did ask is they were chrisitan catholic
  16. I live in the south and my babies are grown. I do know that still in my culture I will "mother" a strangers kid. I will see some kid in a Walmart buggy trying to climb out when the mom turns to get something of the shelf. I will say no no or something. The mom always thanks me. They are usually just new moms and overwhelmed. I've taken a crying baby from a frustrated mom in the store and calm them down. Then I talk to the mom and calm her down. I'm a nurse and a nurturer no matter what the situation. I just step in on the behalf of any child. I also live in rural area with poverty and less educated populace. We have a lot of teen moms. We have a lot of poor moms. There is a cycle of ignorance and poverty here which affects child rearing. I think your mom with 2 young kids is overwhelmed. The other moms should just help parent the toddler during group time.
  17. Alabama I would guess has fewer college grads. We do have rabid fans of Alabama and auburns. They probably didn't finish highschool but they own every shirt, underwear and cups with the school logos. LOL I'm a nurse so I work with a lot of college degree people. My hospital is a trauma 2 hospital with life flight that serves 5 very rural counties. I would guess from interaction in the ER ( the more current poltically correct is to say ED - but I hate it sound like those commericals LOL) most of my patients are either high school grad, ged or drop out. I do have younger nurses ask were I went to nursing school. I have patients ask me how long I"ve been a nurse. I live in a area where nurses and doctors are respected. We are consider the "smart" people in our area. When I worked in a wealthy suburb hospital most of my patients had degrees. When I worked inner city ER most were high school drop-outs. I also know college grads that live in houses falling apart because they may have a degree but never learned a work ethic. I have a SIL and brother both with mulit degrees that are always broke cause they spend money very unwisely. The degree doesn't make them smarter. I know a high school drop out that's a millionaire. The whole elitist movement of this nation is sad. Its placing someone value on a piece of paper
  18. Deb Pearl is in her 60's I think and will not change without her dh dying and non of her sons taking the control. My mom didn't want to change she was condition to the lifestyle. My only brother was secular and still to this day will not see them except for about a hour at Christmas. I did spend my 20's away from them but at 30 forgave them and have taken care of them since my fathers stroke. I've posted my moms coming out (LOL) a bit on other threads. To be honesty I don't believe my father ever had affairs but he was a "bully" using spiritual abuse as his weapon. He did not physically abuse my mom but " Spare the rod Spare the child was the Law in my home" There were belts hung around the house for the deed I think the Pearl guy may of been a physical abusive guy in his younger years then turned to spiritual abuse to keep her condition for the past decades. I have never meet him but just that vibe kwim
  19. I think all babies are blessings. I know they are not all born in the best of cicumstances. I'm guessing your familes are just worried over the fincial reponsiblies. At least your MIL didn't tell you to get an abortion ( mine did when I was pregnant with my first) We had been married a few years and I was finishing college. I just visited with a 90 year old lady still living alone. She was one of 12 in a shack by a train railing during jim crow days. She was talking about till this day she want eat flapjack or pancakes cause that all she had most of her childhood. They were the poorest of poor. The coal train shovel guy felt sorry for them and would purposely throw some coal of the rail and yell for the kids to come pick it up for them to heat their house . This women has lived hard and poor most of it but even after that kind of upbringings. She took in other people kids most of her life. She was the oldest girl and worked hard but she said each of her baby brother /sister were a blessing. She thinks all kids are blessing. Just saying today people see children as a burden. The women helped raise her sibling in poverty and bigotry when her poor dad had to work twice as hard just cause he was black. She was treated like an animal by some of the people she worked for during her youngest years. She told one story that she was ironing for a white family while they ate dinner. They scrapped off their plates onto one plate and filled the left over drink from there glasses to give to her for dinner. They thought that was a nice jester :banghead: I just can't figure out how a whole culture of people that I'm a descendant off could have that much hate in their hearts. Ok sorry went off subject But your baby is wanted and loved by you and your dh there nothing more precious in this life. I hope your pregnancy get easier and you remember that you are doing something special.
  20. I check this thread cause I had to know who would want directions for a sewer :smilielol5: There have been many things discussed on this forum over the past 10 years but that was going to be first on the subject Thanks for the laugh. I totally mess up grammar and spelling all the time I give my dh and kids a laugh all the time. .
  21. It not just a old lady "kids these days" My 22 year old son says that he can't stand girls his age cause they are always on their phone.. He said that the last few the girl he dated did not hold a converstation with him, they stayed on their phone the whole time or used it as a mirror to check their reflection . These are not "fluff" girls they are all in "hard" majors. He has had better luck dating a girl he meet in line at starbuck LOL. He was with me and I started talking to her and since I know my son "he was interested" . I walked away to let them feel each other out kwim They are still meeting for coffee and stuff. She is like him and doesn't' have a smart phone cause she says its a "waste of money" She uses her computer for a computer not her phone. She is saving her money to travel. He is saving his to travel. Mom helped him find a date  They've been seeing each other a few months.
  22. I agree with you on this. My parents both came from abusive homes and my dad had PTSD. They both were looking for how to make a perfect family. They church had the rule book and it was something they could follow. I have in-laws were in a similar cultish church. THe husband came from physically abuse home and my SIL they had dysfunction. They were ripe for the stuff. They finally started seeing the issue with the church always being broke. The pastor controlling nature. They left a few years ago after 15 years. I've watch my SIL go from sex slave wife to a happy women. Thank goodness that got out. My BIL didn't really want her or the kids around me because of my background. I was always making comments about its Ok for women to do this or that. I only saw them for a few hour around Christmas for years. I tried to break through to them in a gentle way. She would sit so quietly unnaturally "meek" and whisper. It broke my heart. My niece is so much like myself and I was watching her suffocate being the right type of Christian young lady instead of who she really wanted to be. She has now just started college. I've been praying for years they would get out.
  23. my likes aren't working but this pretty much described my mom and other women I have known. Anna want leave on her own but if another "man" her brother didn't' give her a choice she would go with him My sister stayed the course married into the mess. She was married 5 years with a sick little boy in a crappy trailer while her fundy husband was gambling and affairs. I gave my brother money so he would go move her out. My brother was only 21 to my 28 at the time. She got out and hasn't looked back. She was to financially broke and afraid to leave. She wasn't afraid of x physically hurting her but the whole "living without a man taking care of her" When my dad had his stroke my mom was all about my brother was now suppose to take care of her. He left the mess and never stepped up. I ended up teaching her how to be an adult. She has blossomed over the past 10 years. She wears cute clothes and cute haircut. She is looking beautiful at 66. She was much like pictures of Anna's mom before freedom.
  24. I grew up similar to anna father lay minister prison minster (check) poor as crap living in a run down trailer our had holes in the floor (check) grew up southeast (check) parents only marriage instruction never turn down your husband for sex its your job (check check), the man is king of his home or in our case piece of crap trailer) check check check, the man is waited on - we even as young girls would remove his shoes for him - no not kidding) I know that many of you can never imagine why anna want leave. She has never been given the skills to live on her own much less make a decision. She went to daddy to josh as her controller. She would leave if her brother just went Arkansas started packing her stuff and say come on. She want do it on her own. Yes she may have internet this or that but for people that have not grown up with this culture you just can't understand how hard it is to break. I've mention in past that I left the mess at 18 but struggle with undoing the slave wife syndrome. I didn't really get free from this stuff mental until around age 30. I don't know her but from the only few times I watch the show her facial expression - kinda of a lost look - little girl expression. I think she really has no confidence in herself. She has been made to feel like she can't make decision on her on. I would make a bet on that. I watch my mom in this same type of relationship. She didn't get her mental freedom until she was 60 something. My childhood suck and I wanted mom to leave. She was just mentally trapped. My mom had never signed a contract, open a bank account, she even got permission before going shopping until my fathers' stroke I hope after Anna should of got a pit on independence when they lived in Washington but I bet the family research council group was her "approved" friends. I have some ideas regarding Josh behavior but dont' have time to get into that now.
