  1. If you have not tried them methylprednisone for 5 days at a reasonable dosage can change your life I could not move without pain, could not hold a phone to my ear...you name it I could not do it. 5 days of steriods orally, not injected through the skin(OUCH) and a little elavil with a smart rheumatologist and it is a whole new world. You do not have Dr. Right yet if you are still suffering .FWIW I am also a former athlete and it really chaps my ...cheeks to be in this condition.

  3. May those who love us love us

And those who don’t love us

    May God turn their hearts,

And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,

    May He turn their ankles,

So we’ll know them by their limping.

  4. I hate to mention this but if she is using tampax it is a concern. Peeling skin on palms and feet is early sign of toxic shcok syndrome. If she has any fever at all regardless I would take her in just to be safe. It is likely eczema but your precious children are not worth the risk.
  5. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/keratosis-pilaris/DS00769 perhaps this is the culprit??? I use a lactic acid lotion from the pediatrician and it helps tremendously.
  6. http://www.foxsearchlight.com/youngatheart/ If you love rock n roll and think that senior citizens are our national treasure as I do please rent this film it is beautiful, funny and very moving. It is the best documentary I have seen this year. Keep a hankie handy because you will laugh until you cry and cry until you are all cried out...

  8. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003875230 Apparently there are a plethora of newspaper editorial boards who find themselves supporting Obama-are they therefore all deluded, drinking the proverbial kool aid or just maybe , maybe there is something more??
  9. http://blog.oup.com/2008/06/retirement/ This is a great three part debate on the proposals regarding 401k and paints a fair picture of both sides of the issue. Thought I would share as it was very helpful to this non economics major . I hope this is enjoyable and illuminating. I am undecided regarding which proposals are best despite leaning toward protectionist policies generally as that is where my sympathies lie but this is fascinating to ponder.
  10. http://www.sharedprosperity.org/bp204.html I thought it might be interesting to read the actual proposal as opposed to the cliffs notes version that is likely a distortion in some way. I read it through and am uncertain this would be the cure all it purports to be. However, there is far more reason to consider the idea when you consider the reasons behind it...Google GM at WSJ and it is clear that something should be done.
  11. This is a distraction ,and not a very good one, from the issues. It is a non issue as he is clearly a USCitizen as per the Constitution's definition.
  12. Having said that ...I have chronic pain in my neck and upper trapezius muscles. I went through 6 injections of Medrol and it did not relieve the pain I just ate everything in the house that was smaller than my head and threatened bodily harm to those who would thwart my inclinations at consuming food. However, Elavil is a great neurogenic drug and 25 mg per day was perfect for me daily with 12 mg of methylpredinisone for a week every month or so. My MRI of neck and shoulders was relatively normal, as I suspect yours might be. You know thinning of the thecal sac and some disc bulging is normal... As I recall you are an athlete so your results with this might vary dramatically from mine. I hope the info is helpful and am sending you my best wishes for a recovery to normal soon. Please see a pain specialist if your ortho is not helping they do far more than write scrips for opiates . I have been helped tremendously by this and have not taken any opiates or traditional pain meds at all .
  13. http://www.chick.com/seasonal/halloween/ Generally speaking these little gems are handed out to innocent children and their loving parents. Yuck ... I am Catholic so these particlular publications really irk me. If someone chose to put this in my dd's bag they are exercising their right to free speech. I will exercise my right to free speech by destroying it with my hands in front of the individual who deigns it appropriate to put in my childs little cauldron /jack o lantern as this pamphlet is filled with offensive ,bigoted , false information by my standards. That is all. Tolerant does not mean accepting an affront from others. It means I respect his /her civil rights to hand out what they see fit and I exercise my free speech rights to burn it in the street-its all good. Your right to speak via actions or words ends where it affects the rights of others. There is nothing wrong per se with the tactic other than intruding upon parental jurisdiction where a child is concerned and a lack of taste .
  14. I am really confused as to why a wiriting by Senator Obama in a textbook is a concern in tax funded schools-there are an abundance of references to many, many political figures in textbooks used by public schools. Please clarify
  15. http://www.parks.sfgov.org/site/elections_index.asp?id=89780 All states have some version of these rules be it 25 feet 100 or 400 feet . The intent of the law is to prevent pressure /intimidation by anyone on the voter . I had a Move on representative and Republican poll worker both arrested 4 years ago for this type of offense. This time I hope to not have to be a precinct captain as it promises to be very ugly in a whole new or old way depending on your pov. These laws are very important to preserve the integrity of the polling place think of the suffragists and later the situations that brought about the Voting Rights Act of 1965 http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/voting/intro/intro_a.htm this is a link discussing the whys and wherefores of the Act . I revisit this every year to think and remember why we bother with what seem to be persnicketty statutes.
  16. Normally I detest textbooks for literature but the link to all the superb diagrams and analysis tools they look terrific thanks for bringing it to my attention. Fwiw, I am equally dismayed to read in some history texts that President Ronald Reagan brought about an end to the cold war more specifically the dismantling of the former USSR. A host of other causes brought that regime to its natural end but very little of its demise had to do with any US policies in my reading, research and life experience working with refuseniks. My point is we all bring something different to the table when evaluating what is good, noble and truthful to our children but am posting to remind readers here that the attitude toward this man, Barack Obama is by no means monolithic in the homeschool community . Nor is it so with other American heroes such as Ronald Reagan. Perhaps that is worth celebrating and at minimum respecting.
  17. Dear lady, You must put the peanut butter on the underside of the snap trap-lightly as well ,the trap will snap -o- rama and the rodent deceased immediately. I devised more methods for rodent trapping than Carters' has pills ,our home was built in 1865 and prior to our residence/law firm taking over the building it was empty for several months...you get the picture. Underside and very little peanut butter so it has to nibble far inside the mechanism and success will be yours. I hate mice. Use more than one trap and line those along the baseboard/wall with the pb bait facing outward. Good luck with your mouse extermination!!!If you need info on drowning the little buggers I have that down to a science as well. It is likely not healthy this interest of mine but if it is useful to anyone here oh well. Best wishes and be stingy with the pb you will emerge victorious! elizabeth
  18. It is really creepy to try to grab a sign at night (when most are stolen) and feel something greasy and possibly nasty all over your hands ...serves them right. Signs are a form of speech and to trespass onto anothers property and steal items from that property is disgraceful. During elections it is a constant problem.I tell people in my precinct to put the sign up staple all along the bottom so they cannot be grabbed easily and coat them with baby oil-our signs are still up. Unbelievable that people will commit trespass and vandalism and try to stifle First Amendment rights all in one fell swoop.
  19. Thank you for sharing the article and for posting uplifting thoughts .
  20. Many thanks to you for posting this tidbit. I always enjoy her work but htis just makes it delicious I wonder how she got back from the airport in Pittsburgh where she was stranded by the Mccain campaign.
  21. http://www.usccb.org/laity/marriage/MarriedLove.pdf I find this to be very helpful and clear on the matter as regards Catholics in communion with Rome recognizing the current and all preceding popes.
  22. The Likeness by Tana French-atmospheric mystery ,needs editing... A Cornel West Reader by Cornel West-great teacher and thinker Habits of the Heart by Robert Bellah-poli sci-community rather than self oriented...been there done that but well written. The Black Hand by Will Thomas-Holmes pastiche great stuff if that is your obsession it is certainly one of mine- Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris(on cd he is a riot) Liberty by Garrison Keillor Soon I really need to get back to reading books with dd ,this winter Les Miserables by V.Hugo and Democracy in America by de Tocqueville are up for discussion. Great ideas to read this year particularly.
  23. I am not attempting to party crash merely curious as to why liberal/socialist was the mentioned alternative to a conservative board?? For that matter, perhaps I am an economic conservative and a social liberal . Stranger things have happened. I have certainly not "bashed "a candidate or party on these boards rather I have limited myself to thoughtful ponderings based on the law if it pertains and on several sources for articles certainly not Huffington Post or the like to defend my party when I believed it was being unfairly attacked based on dubious "news" sources. As a lawyer and philosophy student for most of my adult life I have no idea what socratic dialogue would look like in a forum with no facilitator. If you mean respectful disagreement I feel that those standards have been observed by many here and it has been interesting indeed. I in no way meant to party crash your thread but when the only alternative to the label conservative in whatever way that word is being used, is the label liberal/socialist it is not unlikely that others were befuddled by the lumping of those two concepts together. When liberal or conservative is used as a "dirty" word all discourse becomes a wasted effort in my opinion.
  24. "also suggest that those leaning towards the more liberal/socialist side do the same" Uhmmm they are not the same thing at all. Not even close- to suggest they are interchangeable or even closely related speaks volumes. How sad that people would rather splinter off into those only with the same mindset and worldview never to be challenged to see things from another point of view. I for one would consider it a waste of time to only converse with those who agree with my understanding of the world.
  25. The report with link here certainly makes clear that it is a far more subtle allegation than one might think. What is interesting and bothersome to me is the extent of Todd Palin's involvement in the situation. The analysis of the alleged violation of the ethics laws against what is called self dealing , or as the statute states, abuse of power. It is not that long to read and the compelling analysis of the law and what it means is really interesting. I am not satisfied that the statute was violated-I do not like the analysis that attempts to parse the statute so that it was sufficient to call it abuse of power to find that she "partially "abused her office . I will read further but it seems at first blush to be semantics only . http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/Components/Interactives/Politics/Election2008/branchflower_report_to_the_legislative_council.pdf Page 66 of the document is an excellent summary of the law and the facts as pertinent to the investigation. Most of what follows that is deposition and sworn statements. They are interesting indeed but the statutory analysis is what counts
