  1. Hubby came home at noontime and told us his plant is closing down. He worked there for 24 years and, now, nothing. Don't know what to do...so depressed. Guess I'm going to have to get a job now after NOT working for 20 years....very depressed.
  2. 4 times in my lifetime so far and, frankly, I'm sick of it. I know it's my civil right and all that, but, come on, enough already. Now I know it has nothing to do with vote reg or drivers license because son has neither. It's definitely due to either the town census or the national census. I know people who would love to serve and they never get chosen..go figure.
  3. and yesterday received a summons for jury duty. He was bummed about it, but realizes that he can't get out of it so he just wants to get it over with. It's in October so it's no big deal. He'll have to call a number to see if he really has to go or not so we'll just have to see. He's just a bit anxious about it, though.
  4. Rocco has already acclimated himself to his cage and loves the toys I bought him. Trying to get him not to bite is tough, but he's learned to step up rather quickly. I love him so much and can tell he's very smart. I think he tried to say his name last night, too. Today was his (and mine) first bath which was very comical. Thanks again for the help and advice!
  5. and I'm sooo excited about it!! He's an African Grey parrot and he's 4 months old. He's absolutely beautiful!! I'm in love, but very nervous as he's my first bird ever. Anyone with any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated, to say the least. We named him Rocco and he's already trying to say it. Shadow, our cat, is a little put off about his new brother, but I'm sure they'll get along fine. Shadow and the ferrets were the best of friends, so I'm not worried about the cat/bird rivalry...LOL!!!
  6. My son is all done. He's a high school graduate now. He finally finished physics and, boy, am I glad. I want to thank all the people who helped BOTH of us with the physics course over the past few months. I'm soo glad physics is done, you have no idea!!
  7. I loved watching him in that show..what memories!! I also hope he's resting in peace now. Poor guy. He had his troubles.
  8. A carbon sample taken from the bone of a saber-tooth tiger emits 1 beta emission a minute. A carbon sample of the same size taken from a fresh piece of bone emits 16 beta emissions a minute. How long ago did the saber-tooth tiger live? Show your calculations. OK, that's it. TIA once again.
  9. 1. If a beam of visible light causes a piece of metal to eject electrons, do you think that a beam of gamma rays would cause the metal to eject electrons? Why or why not? 2. The first scientists who worked with radioactive materials in the late 19th and 20th centuries did not realize how dangerous radiation was to their health. For example, 1903 nobel prize winner henri becquerel once placed a radioactive sample of barium in a glass tube, wrapped it in paper, put it in a cardboard box, and then left it in the jacket pocket of the coat he was wearing for 6 hours. When he removed the jacket, he discovered, to his surprise, that the radiation from the sample had burned his skin. What kind of radiation was responsible for becquerel's burn? How do you know? TIA for any help!
  10. what you think. I still think the show deals with heaven and hell. Hell being the island; that's why no one can get off it. That's about all I can come up with for now.
  11. a movie called "The boy in the striped pajamas." It's about the holocaust and was a very moving story. Just had to let everyone know in case anyone would like to rent it. Absolutely worth your time.
  12. Thanks so much for the help. My son got the answer for number 1 as being only 1 turn on the secondary coil, but he was unsure if it was right or not.:001_smile:
  13. Here it is and it has a few parts to it: 1.a. Power lines carry electricity at about 120,000 volts. If a power line were stepped down by a transformer to 120 volts, how many turns would there be on the secondary coil if there were 1000 turns on the primary? b. if the secondary coil in part a is connected to a resistor with a resistance of 10 ohm's, what is the current in the secondary coil? c. what is the power in the secondary coil? d. what is the current drawn by the primary coil? e. why is it useful for the power lines to transfer electricity with a current of the magnitude of your answer in part d? Ok, this is a physics course but my son is studying electricity and magnetism. In the textbook it gives the following formula to use for part a, but he doesn't know what goes where. primary voltage/number of primary turns= secondary voltage/number of secondary turns Any help will be greatly appreciated!:001_smile:
