  1. :grouphug: Congratulations on making it through the shopping day. Sounds like a lovely dress and a great deal.
  2. I never thought that I could stand to be around my kids 24/7. I was a workaholic and hated being at home taking care of the everyday mundane. But that all changed when my ds had started first grade. He is a talker and he was always bringing home notes that he was disruptive in class. He had a difficult time sitting still and was bored. Plus there were things that they were teaching him that we did not agree with. The household was so stressed out with work, school, homework and no time to be a family, that something had to give. Also my ds was having terrible nightmares. So after doing my research, we decided to start homeschooling the kids. I have two sils that homeschool and they were great help in getting me started. I haven't looked back since. I can't imagine being without my kids around me now. I have started working again parttime and I really miss having all day to spend with them.
  3. Hi, my name is Samantha and I have a Starbuck's addiction. :D Actually the whole family does. We have a Cuisinart grind and brew and make coffee every morning. Then I will go by and grab my carmel machiato on the way to work. I have the personalized gold card to boot.
  4. No longer having intestinal problems, more energy, no more brain fog, lost weight!, sleeping better, did I say lost weight?, better complexion. I will say that we are grain free not just gluten free. :D
  5. Yes, I can relate. I used to have terrible RLS. But since we have been eating a paleo diet, it has been much better. We are grain/gluten free. I will still have some symptoms if I eat something that I shouldn't though. When we first changed out diet, I did notice that I slept so much better.
  6. Rain!! We have been getting rain on a weekly basis so far this year. Hopefully it will continue through spring and our drought condition this year will not be so severe.
  7. I have some ramikins w/pumpkin pie filling baking right now. It's like pumpkin pie without the crust. And I have real creamy whipped cream to top it off.
  8. I have always wanted to try this: http://www.food.com/recipe/best-albondigas-soup-107281 Looks yummy.
  9. I am an Okie who lives in Texas. Does that make me doubly nice? :D I have to vote for Texas and Oklahoma also.
  10. I have lost a leg! ;) 40 pounds = a 5-gallon bottle of water or an average human leg
  11. We are having sleet here on the north side of Houston. I was not expecting that.
  12. That was too cool. Talk about saving money on musical equipment. ;)
  13. How about a look over the city. http://www.hyatt.com/gallery/spindletop/dinner.html We have been up in the Spindletop many years ago. It was fun sit and watch the city go by.
  14. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=329769&highlight=hot+yoga Here it is.
  15. Exactly. 2 slices of wheat bread is equivalent to 2 tbsp of sugar as far as your body is concerned.
  16. I think I have more gray than either my gma or my mom. When I go anywhere with my two sisters, I look like I am their mother. They are only 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years younger than me. I got all the wacked genes in my family.
  17. I have a sil who is several years younger than I am, she is solid gray. She no longer colors her hair and she still looks very young. Her hair is very pretty. Mine is salt and pepper, more salt than pepper. I have been thinking about coloring my hair, just haven't made the jump yet.
  18. I try to be nice about being asked, I am not going to get all in a huff about it. One time, at Goodwill :), a young lady asked me and I said, "No, but since you asked, you should give it to me.", in a nice way of course. So she did. Then she went on telling me about someone that she had asked, that got all huffy puffy, threw their items down on the counter and left. Saying they were so insulted just by her asking.:001_huh: Good grief.
  19. Get asked all the time when I go to Goodwill. I am 45 but I do have a lot of gray hair. But what was even worse was in invitation I got in the mail for me and 4 of my closest friends (60 +) to have a free lunch and listen to a lecture on retirement options. That thing got shredded. :glare:
  20. Like you are experiencing, I had terrible IBS. I suffered with it for 5 - 6 years. It got to the point that I didn't/couldn't leave the house without a plan of action for just in case. And there were times that I would leave the house to only turn around and come back home. I thought that my life as an active/participating wife and mother was over. One year ago last November, we started eating a paleo diet. (I recommend reading Robb Wolf's book 'The Paleo Solution'.) We went cold turkey on no grains. Within 3 days of going grain free, I was pain free. I could not believe how much better I felt. Of course, it has taken some time to heal my intestine, but I have been able to participate in life again, without worrying where the closest bathroom is. The FODMAP is a gluten free diet and that should help. But I think that it is more than just gluten that is causing the IBS problem. If you read Robb's book or even a book called 'Wheat Belly' by Dr. William Davis, you will see that grains have many components that cause problems with our bodies.
  21. We eat paleo, grain free. They will eventually level out. My son lost a lot of weight, but he was overweight. My daughter only lost 5 pounds. She was slim to begin with. I would suggest increasing their intake of veggies, add potatoes if you can. If they are eating more meat than veggies, then they will lose weight quickly. My son lost weight so fast, that it scared me. But we found out later that he was also having gallbladder issues. He did finally level out, he is very thin and he has only gained about 10 pounds. And his appetite is typical for a growing teenager.
