  1. I have an implant I got as a teen. 15 years later it is still doing great. I didn't have a tooth there so there was just a jaw with no trauma. I don't know how that would impact anything. I do love my implant.
  2. Skip this appt and go in next week. :grouphug: Much prefer a hands off midwife. No u/s needed.
  3. I am a homeschool graduate. As are both my brothers. I started College at 18, my transcripts came from my umbrellas school and my ACT was good enough that I needed no math or languauge remedial classes, whiich were quite common at the community college I attended. It got my AA in Interdisciplinary Studies. My next younger brother started college at 17 I think. He got his AA from the same community college, then went to another college in state for a semester. Then he went on his mission for our church and then off to BYU when he returned. He got is degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer. My youngest brother did the community college route as well. Now is off working finishing his BS in Ag something or other.
  4. When my BIL put in his pool we were told for insurance purposes we couldn't use the pool if they weren't home. We go once or twice in the week during the summer sometimes more sometimes less. But usually we swim with them. Never when they aren't home. While I do have pool envy sometimes, when I consider the cost, upkeep and safety hazard with young children I am glad it is not in my backyard. :001_smile:
  5. I was just thinking about this. I could go either way. I know infants that have pierced ears and I think they are cute. My hesitation is I am allergic to gold, finally after years of infections from gold, and sterling I discovered I could tolerate only Surgical steel for extened periods. It finally allowed my ears to heal to the point that almost 20 years after getting my ears pierced I can wear whatever earrings I want without pain and I wear my surgical steel quite a lot to keep my holes open and infection free. And so as cute as I think they are I don't know that I would pierce my infant daughter till she was old enough to ask.
  6. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Uninterrupted.... Yes I have a toddler yes he has things he does during school, no school is not uninterrupted. I can be doing spelling, math or any subject with the boys. And he will come up to interrupt. We redirect and explain it is time for school. Sometimes I am more patient than others. He does have boxes of special toys that I try to rotate. He gets a new workbox out when brother do. But often they get ditched for books. Which he thinks I can read too him while I teach a lesson. :001_huh: He sometimes ends up on my lap listening while I teach. If somebody finishes a workbox early he gets a playmate other than that he is on his own, sitting in the same room as everybody else interrupting and being redirected. And yes sometimes a workbox has a roku remote... If something works for your family then don't change it to fit in. We all have different ways of running our family and kids with different personalities. My child loves to listen to realouds so that is something we all do together. He loves to listen to brother reading as well. But that is this child in my home. Don't think others would have been as interested. I have found that school goes smoother in our home when I am in the same room with my boys doing school and by default the toddler. VS me giving them assignments and leaving to do housework... And I do 20 minutes with a kid then rotate to keep it short and sweet but again that is me. After an hour we take a break. So I can give my little one some book reading time or puzzle building or cuddling or me some me time. Maybe your older ones would prefer short times watching the little one if you do want to change something. Maybe have one plan to build puzzles, another do art (crayons not paint) and another outdoor play (trikes, playground.) So your little one gets a variety of things to hold their interest. Hang in there and do what is best for your family. You don't need to change just to fit in.
  7. First one came home in a cute yellow outfit. Last one came home in a blue sleeper, and cloth diaper a few hours after birth. Middle was a homebirth. I like the sleeper thing but I think I will have to get some warm pj's for this one...
  8. My brother and I were 2 years apart. We took college classes together and since I had recently married the college hadn't changed my name. We were mistaken for husband and wife. We we explained we were siblings they thought we were twins. My older brother and his date took my baby brother to a hockey game once and they got mistaken for his parents. My age is always fun to play with as DH is 10 years older than me and we don't like there is that much of a gap. Hopefully it will always be that way. He went somewhere with his brother who is a 18 months older and his mom. They thought his brother was is Dad married to his mom.
  9. I wouldn't wash the top till it is finished and quilted. Either prewash everything or don't prewash anything is my rule. Good luck. If you wash the top before you quilt it you will have a frayed mess.
  10. I have started both my boys when they were 4 with RS A. There is very little writing and we skipped some of it I am sure and I just did the worksheets orally if needed. I like it. It is very gentle and my boys had no problem with the abacus. Lots of things require the appendix pages and I found that was worth buying precopied. Good luck in your quest for the best program for your little one.
  11. Would she prefer a morning shower? I know I hated sleeping with wet hair. Would a star chart of some kind be helpful, I know she is 10 but that might motivate her on her teeth. As for sleep does she have a night light in her room so she can do some quiet reading before bed? I know I would read and never fought bedtime, as it allowed me to quietly read. Usually I didn't stay up too late. :grouphug:
  12. Yep we did too. We have puddles, and our rain tanks are full! Such a blessing from on high. Poor dogs don't know what to think of it.
  13. I was having a hard time too with fashion. My friends turned me onto Dressing Your Truth. It is awesome. It has 4 types and she lays out the colors and styles for your type to look awesome, along with hair and makeup. I love it and have gotten more compliments. They do have a referral program kinda like AAS does but I don't know if I can post my link so I will just let you google it. :grouphug: And when did hose go out? And who really cares...I would wear hose if it makes you feel comfortable.
  14. I remember being a teen and getting my wisdom teeth out. I felt horrible for a week at the site and from the antibiotics. Give him a few more days.
  15. In our family the parents do the stockings for the kids. I haven't had a stocking since either before I got married or after the first year...Well I do up dh and My stockings.... My parents just get gifts for kiddos and usually something for dh and I together and maybe something small for each of us. My MIL usually gets us a couple gift or gift certificate. We do Christmas morning alone, Christmas Eve with my parents and Christmas dinner with dh's side.
  16. To me it sounds like instead of a midwife she is acting like a doctor. I think that is why everybody is fussing. Midwives outside of a hospital are more likely to listen to a woman and respect her wishes concerning birth and her body. My midwife was beginning to worry with my last birth not because of me or my baby but because of legislative red tape. If I had gone past 42 weeks she would have had more paperwork. Have you seen the Business of Being Born? It is very enlightening about birth in America. I don't know the op's history but with my history there is no way I would allow an induction before 42 weeks, my boys are all 41 weeks and some days. 41 wks 1 day, 41 wks 5 days (with prodomal labor for 4 days...), 41 weeks 1 day for the last. I had a doctor I liked once too. Then he wanted to hosptialize me because my 3 hour glucose test was 1 point outside of normal. I respected his opinion but felt he was over reacting as my numbers weren't that high and it was something that needed to be handled outpatient if at all. I got a second opinion and felt much better with my care giver. Had I stayed I would have had a c-section as the hopsital called to set up my pre-op. I used another hospital to avoid the Dr #1. I later found out he has a very high section rate.
  17. I would get a bigger slide. Because your little one will quickly out grow it. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Little-Tikes-Large-Folding-Slide/3609914 We had one like that but it wasn't folding. It was used and we used it for several years before the steps finally died. My kids could use when it died and the oldest was 8... I also like IKEA's wooden one... Have you seen the indoor cedarworks...
