  1. We are doing Eye write too! It is a lot of work but ds is quickening up. For us, besides writing the best thing ds has learnt is how to do a class on his own and be responsible for completing it on time. He has taken it very seriously and like someone else said, we do the work before any other subjects to make sure it gets done. I would love to do Time capsule but the time difference for us is a problem, we'll see. I am a little concerned how much time it would take but as it is only until Dec it would be doable. I didn't know about the summer course, do you know when it would start?? Thanks to the poster who alerted me to attune up, it's been great! Stephanie
  2. Fyi-there is a new textbook coming out in June, samples should be up during May. I'm not sure how it differs from the current one Stephanie
  3. For our internet school I need Jarva (I think, I need to check if that is what is stopping it work) and so can't use the chromebook. My ds swears by it for everything else though. You would need to check with the school's requirements, depends on what software they use to set the online class up on. Stephanie
  4. If you do get a tablet make sure that it can actually be used for internet school. We use 2 internet schools and whilst the ipad can now be used with one of them, the functionality is limited and more of an emergency use only. Unfortunately we need to take a laptop with us for internet school and for that reason I am now looking at small laptops when my current one expires. Also note that whilst the chromebook is a favourite for us, it cannot be used for our internet school at all. Stephanie
  5. There is a sequel which my ds loved! Small Steps Stephanie
  6. We use French, Spanish and English and have used science and maths. Stephanie
  7. If you have 2 children then I would buy 2 student books although they could share as they don't write in them. You need the teacher's book and audio CD unless you are a fluent speaker. Even if you are a fluent speaker it is sometimes good to hear someone else speak. Re the number of pages it is really up to you, there is no need to do a set amount. We are taking more than a yr to cover the books as we spend time reinforcing the vocab on quizlet and only do a lesson once a week with the rest of the time on homework. My son has a French tutor who comes in once a week and does 4o mins with him, we spend the rest of the week going over the vocab and doing the written excercises. For Spanish my son does it with a friend and her 2 children, they spend the time speaking and time at home doing the written excercises. GP is very well written with emphasis on basic grammar and vocab unlike a lot of the courses over here in the UK. The samples give you a good idea of how it is laid out. If you want a basic no nonsense program then this fits the bill. Stephanie
  8. We use French and Spanish and both are excellent. You can go as fast as you like. Stephanie
  9. A bottle of wine made in the year of his birth? That was a present that dh received Stephanie
  10. I had some "bad" results with my second son. I had a one in 30 chance of him having downs. I did have further testing which showed that there was nothing wrong, it was just one of those things. So it is possible to have a bad result but nothing is amiss. The waiting is agony though so I do understand. Stephanie
  11. We have snap circuits, are they more advanced than they are? Stephanie
  12. A problem can arise if you have illiquid assets over the limit, what if you can't sell them quickly enough to raise the tax payment? Stephanie
  13. My ds does it when he is very tired/stressed. Stephanie
  14. http://blueladybug.com/ I bought from her about 10 years ago and there are some pictures of my ds's on her site. She is brilliant! She even made me special items eg fireman jackets, a spacesuit. All made out of cotton fabrics, really good quality clothes. I bet she will make you anything you want. I have kept all of mine to hand down to grandchildren! Stephanie
  15. I've had this a lot but in our case my boys genuinely believed that they had too much to handle. I bought each child a white board and when they were overwhelmed, I asked them to dictate a list of what had to be done, by when and how long they expected each task to take. They were astonished when the hours and hours of work they thought they had was in fact only say 45 min. We prioritised the tasks together and they went away happily as they could now see the wood for the trees. I think this is a useful skill to have and prevents them from becoming overwhelmed. Stephanie
  16. If he doesn't read Dahl now he never will. I always remind myself that whatever ds is doing is at the expense of doing something else. So for example, some people say that their child is capable of understanding complex books and so that is what they read to them, perhaps missing out on winnie the pooh etc. What a shame to miss out on something so great as nursery rhymes because the child is capable of understanding more! If they do miss out on these then they probably won't see the importance of these stories to their children. Stephanie
  17. For an average child when would you recommend starting this? Stephanie
  18. The way I solved it (not completely but mostly) was to put them in situations where ds1 realised that ds2 wasn't as stupid as he thought. Actually ds2 is very funny and very bright. He found a new respect for ds2 and his opinions. He still puts him down occassionally when he is angry but he does now respect him. The situation I contrived was not one that you'll be able to do because I made them walk to and from school together every single day, without me. That way ds1 had to listen to what ds2 was saying. It wasn't long before ds1 realised that ds2 was a pleasure to be with! Can you set up a situation where they have to work together without you being there? Perhaps they can have a little project to do-preferably one that ds2 is very interested in and can help ds1? It is something that needs to be worked on over a period of time. I wanted ds1 to actually like and respect ds2, not just behave out of fear of me telling him off. Stephanie
  19. What does he drink? Any empty calories or just water? Stephanie
  20. My 14 yr old read it 3 times on holiday along with ds10 and I who also read it, brilliant! Stephanie
  21. Is there enough instruction in the book to help the teacher teach it? I'm using SM at the moment and we go through the lesson together with ds completing the questions on his own. I couldn't see the sample for 7H and just wondered whether there would be enough information in the book for me to teach Stephanie
  22. I got caught out! I was wondering why you lot were so well organised, buying presents in August for Dec/Jan! Then I looked at the date of the original post :cursing: Stephanie
  23. Seems as if this series has been revised since I last looked http://www.rfwp.com/series/suppose-the-wolf-were-an-octopus-guides-to-creative-questioning Anyone used the 5 to 6 level with their books? Seems as if you would have to buy the book pack as a lot of the titles are published by RFP and are hard to find elsewhere. Any opinions? Stephanie
