It's the gear box cover that is either plastic or metal--inside the KA, not the cover you see on the outside. I broke my KA by trying to open it to find out which I had, so I could replace the cover if necessary. I found a great tutorial online that told me how to do it, but skipped the parts about how to open the KA and tried to do it myself. I took something out that looked like a screw but wasn't, and now I have to figure out how to get it back in right. Will have to look for another tutorial.
  2. I use Facebook and Pinterest, but I don't consider Pinterest to be social media (and therefore didn't vote for it). I just use it for bookmarking.
  3. Shrimp, crab and crawfish do not have carbs, but others do. Clams, lobster, mussels, oysters and scallops do. Here's a list with counts. If you use a seafood sauce, that has a lot of carbs. I don't eat seafood, so I don't know what you'd normally eat it with. If you stick with butter and spices/seasonings, you'd be fine. Cream sauces are often made with starchy thickeners, but you can make your own with heavy cream.
  4. A 6th grade classmate of mine did this...we were on a school field trip. I don't remember where we were, but we were waiting to get on a ride or something. There was a good size crowd of other kids in addition to our own class. She (Heather) raised up on her toes and waved across the crowd, yelling, "Jenny!" This girl comes over, and Heather starts talking to her, "Hi, how have you been?" etc... So they have a conversation for a couple of minutes, getting all caught up, and then the other girl goes back to her group. We asked Heather about the other girl, how she knew her. Heather said, "I don't know her. I just yelled out a name and she answered to it."
  5. You're not eating those vegetables alone--you're eating meat, eggs & cheese also. And yes, you can get all your nutrients from those and the veggies on the list (plus the leafy greens mentioned). It's not really a short list...my dh's list of veggies that he eats is much shorter! There are online carb counters, like the Atkins one. Or you can get a little carb counter book. I have this one. It's 4"x5.5". Fits in your purse (or pocket) easily if you want to take it with you. Generally, if it has carbs, it's either sweet or starchy...peas are starchy. Corn is sweet & starchy. Tomatoes & onions are sweet. I don't know if there are carb counters that break down the amount of sugar vs. starch. Food labels usually list the sugar and fiber in an item, so you can figure the starch from that, but I don't know how you can do it in veggies. I just look at the overall count, minus the fiber. Foods are either a protein, fat or carbohydrate. There are 3 types of carbs: starch, sugar and fiber. So the veggies on your list (being carbs, rather than protein or fat), as well as the almond flour, contain some amount of sugar, starch or fiber, even if it's really low. Some of the veggies you listed I am very careful of, as they contain more starch and sugar than others do (tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, brussel sprouts, pumpkin, and peas, among others). And although you don't have sweet potatoes on your list, since someone mentioned it I'd like to add that they are higher in sugar/starch than potatoes are, even if they are not technically a potato. The almond flour is a combination of starch, fiber and fat. So while it still has starch, almond flour is still much better for you than a flour made from grain. You'd have to look it up on a carb counter to see if it's too much carbs for you at this point. I've been doing this for nearly 7 months now. I know that when I reach my goal weight I need to continue eating this way, at maintenance level. Eating sugar and starch is what made me gain weight in the first place. I've also had significant benefits in other areas (dental health, for example). I don't want to lose progress there.
  6. How about joining the LCHF group when the Social Groups are available again, and starting a Whole30 thread?
  7. I've been waiting for the Social Boards to come back...it just occurred to me today to look for our group here. I am still LCHF...usually very low carb. I've lost 43.8 lbs in about 6.5 months. I had a mild-moderate cheat (on purpose) on Thanksgiving day, then got back on track the next day. I stayed LCHF for 15 days, then had a cheat--unplanned, but I blame dh. It really was his fault. ;) Now I'm up to 6 days without a cheat, I think. Today is day 7. It usually takes me 3 days to lose what I gained from a cheat, although the last one took me 5 days. So I'm waiting for Christmas vacation--my parent's house for a week--to cheat again. I think I'll do moderate carb for the week.
  8. Washed their hair. And accidentally poured water over dd9's face while rinsing her hair.
  9. We always used fishing line to secure our tree to the wall. We had a huge picture window we always put the tree in front of, so the line was attached to the tree & wall at about 2 ft. above the floor. My grandparents' house had a high ceiling (but not a cathedral ceiling), and I remember one year when I was a young adult, helping to put up their tree along with my other cousins & aunts & uncles around my age. The tree that year was a bit tippy, so we used fishing line and attached it to the ceiling.
  10. I was thinking about the comment about it being an indication of diabetes...While I don't think it necessarily is a sign that someone is diabetic (there can certainly be other causes of yeast infections), if the yeast infection is caused by too much sugar & starch, those things can definitely negatively affect a person's health and put them on that road to diabetes. My weight had gone up quite a bit over the last few years, and in my case it was a result of sugar & starch consumption. Cutting those out and replacing them with protein & fat and non-starchy veggies has led to me losing 40 lbs (and elimination of yeast infections). I eat low carb/moderate protein/high fat.
  11. Here is an article/forum thread about why you should get your salt. (this is on a low carb forum)
  12. I've had shingles. Dh had them at the same time...his spots showed up about 2-3 days after mine first did, so I don't believe the bit about it not being contagious--after all, it comes from a virus. Our cases were confirmed by our doctor. Mine were not painful, but horribly itchy. His did not itch at all, as we went to the doctor on the same day that he got his spots (I was suspecting mine were poison ivy before his showed up). As far as them not crossing the midline, while that's true, you can have it on both sides of the midline--mine were that way. (They say that if you get it on your torso, the virus will start from your spine and branch around to the front--apparently the spots don't need to start back there, but they usually do on the torso) They were easily identifiable as shingles because the main concentration of them was in a band around the front half of my waist. I had other scattered spots as well. I was put on a prescription pill (can't remember what it was), as well as a cream, and dh just needed the cream.
  13. There are other forums that do this. You get used to it.
  14. I had more and more frequent yeast infections before I began eating very low carb. Like one would seem to end and another would start right up. Except for an occasional "cheat" (sometimes as often as once a week, but usually less than that), I have had no grains, beans, potatoes or sugar (including fruit--there's virtually no difference between fruit & veggies except for sugar content) for 6 months. My infections are gone. Hallelujah. As far as the previous comment about how bad you'd feel when doing very low carb, make sure you consume plenty of salt (broth works great for this), and you won't have a problem.
  15. McDonald's for the price, Taco Bell for the food (I voted Taco Bell).
  16. I skimmed and misread that. I thought you said "Please post when you ARE wearing socks" I can't stop giggling.
  17. He has more than one, or was it one two times? (I think that must be it)
  18. You're saying socks made you do it? Whose socks?
  19. Look for the other "Rest in Peace Smiley" thread. Although we could keep this one going, just for the heck of it.
  20. I remembered another thing I like about our tree--since the branches are removable, I can take out 2-3 of them from the lowest row at the back so I can fit my tree more closely to the wall. We have a large window there, but those branches are lower than the window. So it looks normal from all sides, and you wouldn't know there's a couple of branches "missing."
