  1. $20 here for a basic spa pedicure and $3 extra if you want French or American Manicure style polish, which I always do. Plus I usually tip $5. So I guess the total is $28. When I take my niece with me, who is petite and 11 years old, they usually charge me $10 for her. She doesn't get the "whole shebang" but they do massage her feet and polish them so she feels nice and pretty.
  2. Well, you might want to go to a Mexican restaurant and skip right on by the market . . . because . . . yes you can tell what it is when you buy it. But seriously, it is so delicious. Shoot! My mouth is watering . . . I can't wait for Sunday to get here, LOL. :tongue_smilie:
  3. Well here in Texas every Sunday at the little Mexican markets you can get barbacoa, which is beef face and tongue meat cooked slowly all Saturday night so you can have delicious tacos for breakfast on Sunday morning before church, except we don't go to church:glare: but we do actually eat barbacoa almost every Sunday. It's delicious!:D
  4. Oh I know. And you know what else? It's so sad to see Tim Russert's son trying to pick up the legacy his father left behind. It's admirable, but sad. Of course he's not as good as his dad, but he's new at it so I'm trying to give him a chance. Also it's kind of sad that his father had to die for his career to take off. I hope I'm not just being morbid, but that's honestly how I feel every time I see him on tv.
  5. Me too. I have about 15 or 20 reusable bags. They give them away on Earth Day at the local grocery store here. One reusable bag for every 10 plastic bags you bring in an recycle. We don't have free recycling here, so they were kind of building up, :D. I always bring in my own bags. I keep them in the trunk. I also keep one in my handbag at all times in case I decide to drop into the grocery store. I do go ahead and get the plastic ones for meat and drippy things that I don't want to infest my "good" bags, LOL. I also do sometimes let them give me 2 or 3 plastic bags because I use them for bathroom trash bags and cleaning out the doggy potty and stuff like that. I don't see any reason to pay for real small trash bags when they are offering those to me for free. :001_smile:
  6. What's so funny, is when I see that commercial and they show the two books, I like the reptile encyclopedia or whatever that book is called better than the Leap Frog book. It looks delicous! I can see Baby Boy drooling all over that book, of course we are outside of Leap Frog's age demographic, but still, LOL. Also I hate the way he tells that first little girl, "Move along." She's not even done reading yet. *SIGH* I thought the idea was for children to like to read. I thought I was the only one. Thanks for posting this. I thought for sure I'd completely flipped my lid, but apparently not. Or if I have, I have others to talk to who have flipped theirs too :D.
  7. Do you have a kitchen scale? If you do package it up (don't seal it of course) and weigh it and then you can go onto the USPS website and calculate the shipping it will cost to various places. I usually just figure a place far far from me so I can get the best (or worse, however you may think of it) scenario. I don't sell on ebay anymore, haven't in years, but that's how I used to do it when I did. Hope that helps. :001_smile:
  8. Well, I'm not a "super poster" so that may be why I don't get much rep (or there may be other reasons, but be gentle :001_smile:), so if anyone reps me and leaves their name, I try to rep them back to just say "thanks" because I really do appreciate it. It's nice that they did and it's SO easy to forget to do it, so I just want them to know I'm not taking any rep for granted, LOL.
  9. I totally agree! My son had T.E. Fistula, which is where the esophagus and lungs are connected, but that (like I said earlier) is quite unusual and severe. But I did forget until reading the pp that lung deficiencies usually go along with true severe reflux. Some of the mucus and formula can be aspirated into the lungs . . . this is not good and can cause many problems for year and years to come. Good luck! That little one is so lucky to have all that loving you've got for him! :D:D
  10. My Baby Boy has sever reflux . . .oh, so long ago he was an infant. Anyway if breast milk is not available, then a formula with no dairy would be the next best thing. Lactose interance seems to feed into reflux disease and vise versa. Also be sure to feed the infant upright, not in a sloping or leaning back position. He has to be as vertical as possible and not to lay down within an hour or so of eating. Either hold him upright or I was given, by the hospital a special sling that fit over the bassinet and crib that would hold baby in an upright position so that his food could totally digest while sleeping sitting up. It takes some getting used to, but can be done. Also baby would probably benefit from lots of small feedings rather than any large ones. . . even if still hungry. This is the hardest one. But food must be allowed to digest between feedings. I found myself sort of breast feeding round the clock . . .unable to do much else. But my Baby Boy had a SEVERE case of reflux brought on by an extreme birth defect, yours may not be quite this extreme. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
  11. I guess I'm one of those silly housewives who enjoys watching The View. Whoopie is my favorite. I actually did think they beat up on him a little bit. Monday on the show Barbara said that she was nice to Obama and to McCain and had lighter interviews with both of them when they were both still campaigning to be the candidate for each party. She also said that since McCain has been confirmed as the Republican candidate, that's why she had a more "hard hitting" interview. She also said that she has put out the invitation to Obama, Biden and Palin to come back on now that they are the official candidates and she has hard questions for all of them to answer. Now I'm just repeating what I heard her say on the show, as I said earlier, I do admit I watch fairly regularly, although not every day, and do enjoy it. These words are not my opinions, just what I heard her say, although now that you know I'm a View watching hippie liberal, you may want to take everything I say from now on with a heaping tablespoon of salt :D.
  12. I :001_wub: having two sinks and a vanity, but we wash the dog in the big garden tub. :D I'm more of a shower girl. Get one of those hose type thingies for the faucet and instant luxury dog bath!
  13. I haven't read all the replies . . . because the thread is so long, but I didn't want that to keep me from saying that I'm so sorry about what you and your little girl are going through. I know how it is. We only have one car and spend a lot of time staying inside during the day because of it. I have vision problems and really hate driving at night . . . but I do what I have to do. Anyway, I really applaud you for home schooling your daughter even though you're a single parent. What an awesome responsibility you've taken on. :grouphug: I hope something even more incredible, timely and absolutely FREE comes along very soon.
  14. Actually mine can sign his name in cursive because he has a checking account, but other than that . . . no cursive. I don't write in cursive either, so I definitely don't require anything of him that I don't model myself, :D. Usually he prints his daily notes, etc . . . but anything that has to be turned in "officially" he has to type anyway, so to me the point is moot.
  15. I don't know . . . I think I'd leave a border for "safety." I have a heat laminator (of course it was only $25 and I'd never cut anything closer than a 1/4 inch from the paper.
  16. I don't have any deep philosophical reasons for the name of our school . . . it's The Controlled Chaos Learning Center. . . because that's what I'm trying to do around here . . . control the chaos. Of course I live in a state with no regulation or paperwork or questions of any kind, I imagine I'd be more serious and diligent in thinking of an appropriate name if I had to write it out a few times a year. Then again, maybe I wouldn't. :D
  17. The 1900 Galveston Hurricane is one of my son's FAVORITE Texas history subjects . . . I don't know why. He likes reading about natural disasters. Some sort of sick teenage boy thing, I guess. I did notice they postponed the game. I guess better safe than sorry.
  18. The most I've heard is rain and 60 to 70 mph winds Friday night and Saturday. Not pleasant, but definitely not hurricane level. In fact Austin is taking in quite a few hurricane evacuees from the Houston/Galveston area . . . so I wouldn't think they expect too much more than a really strong thunderstorm.
  19. I don't know any cons . . . or I'm too lazy to think of any rather:lol:. That's how I was graded in several high school classes and all through college and I just assumed that's how everyone else graded :D, you know, because I'm the center of my own universe. It's quick, easy, thorough, with a minimum of muss and fuss. Just how life should be.
  20. My niece had a severe cleft lip and pallet and has had several surgeries and also works with a cleft lip/pallet team. I know whenever my sister feels anything is the slightest bit incorrect she confronts them head on. My sister is the "good girl" of the family so she doesn't do it in a mean way, but she has no problem saying exactly what she means and will continue to go over anyone's head in order to get the services she feels she needs to get for her daughter. Anything she doesn't understand or disagrees with, she just asks for a follow up appointment with that person (without bringing her daughter, so she can speak freely) so she can get full clarification. Sometimes she is right, sometimes she's wrong and just needs a more thorough explanation, but she ALWAYS LEAVES SURE of what is going on. I highly recommend you do the same. I have a special needs child also, not this particular need, but still MOM has to be their tireless advocate no matter how uncomfortable it is. If you cannot get any satisfaction, drive 100 miles to find a new team. Do whatever it takes. Good Luck!
  21. What really works for me is a house that's large enough to have a comfortable spare bedroom. :glare: The snoring goes through earplugs and the Breathe Right strips just add minty vibration to the madness. I know it's not romantic, but by the time I'm ready to get up and sleep down the hall . . . business hours are over. ;)
  22. :iagree: My Mom didn't want me to wear red lipstick or nail polish because it was for "harlots and Jezebels," but I did it anyway. :D I still wear black and red whenever the heck I want. Sorry, I don't have any daughters or any advice, I just found your post very interesting.
  23. Mom sets the tone and the rules, LOL . . . seriously. I hate being away from my own house on Christmas. Stay home. Start a new family tradition. Then don't feel guilty. ENJOY IT!
