  1. i would rush out to a health food store and buy some probiotics to give everyone. If they aren't sick yet, that may help prevent it. How irritating!
  2. I have a very weak stomach and have never been able to hold the orange glucose stuff down. If I even tried to drink it, I would be sick for days! Anyway, I started refusing the test unless my dr could come up w/ an alternative. My last dr (pregnancy #6) just had me fast from midnight until my appt at 10am, then just tested my blood. Wish I would have known about this option 15 yrs ago!
  3. We use epsom salt baths here all the time, usually for aching muscles & sore, tired feet. I found them very helpful during my pregnancies when my muscles would begin to complain. FYI: I have never asked my dr. about them, but never had a problem with them either.
  4. No, absolutely not! I keep my kids at home a lot during "flu season." Dd5 came home from Awana 2 weeks ago w/ a flu bug and we have been fighting it off & on for the last 2 weeks (ds2 got sick 1 1/2 hours before we were to leave for our hs Christmas party (the only outside holiday activity we had planned). So dh had to rush home from work (1 hr away) so I could take the rest of the kids to the party (they had worked so hard on their projects to display for the night I couldn't not take them). Then dh, ds11 & dd9 ended up sick the last couple days. I'm hoping we are past it now, but we are definately not going anywhere for a while! You can't please everyone. You dc's friends/parents should understand where you are coming from and maybe you can schedule gift exchanges etc. for after you get home.
  5. Thanks for all the ideas. We've been to the aquarium in Tulsa (it is really cool!), and all 3 zoo's (Witchita, OKC & Tulsa). But I hadn't thought about museums. The light display in Tulsa sounds like it might be a winner, though. I'll have to run it by dh. Thanks again for all the neat ideas. Hopefully we will be able to at least put together a day trip or overnighter.
  6. Dd was 4 when we started K this fall (Just turned 5 in Nov.). We are using MFW K & the Explode the Code books (She loves these books!).
  7. We are using the Explode the Code books along w/ MFW K and my dd LOVES them! She will sometimes go through 5+ pages in one sitting!
  8. Hi, Dh & I have decided that more than anything, we need a vacation (even a small, cheap one will be great!) so we are trying to plan a last minute "escape" trip for Christmas. Our budget won't allow us to go too far, so we're thinking maybe Tulsa, OK, Oklahoma City, or Wichita, KS areas. If you live nearby, what kind of fun, family activities are there over Christmas weekend? I would greatly appreciate your help in planning our trip. Thanks...:001_smile:
  9. Did you order it from Amazon.com or straight from Peace Hill Press? Amazon.com has the best price I have found, but they say it will not be available until Jan. 16th and I don't think I am patient enough to wait that long...:tongue_smilie:
  10. So...Amazon.com still says they are not released yet (and won't be until Jan. 16th). Does that mean if I order them through Amazon.com they won't ship them out until after Jan. 16th?
  11. Hello, I am getting ready ro buy FLL 3 for my kids, but am trying to decide whether to buy the hard copy of the student book or the download. If I buy the hard copy, can I make copies of the pages for use with several of my kids or do I need to buy the download to do that? Thanks...
  12. :grouphug::grouphug:I'm so sorry. I hope things go smoothly and work out for the best of your family.
  13. It depends what part of WA. I grew up in the northwest corner, and we didn't have poisonous snakes, Black Widows, or any really nasty things. You have the normal creepy crawlies, the occasional bear or bobcat and even a cougar if you get up in the mountains, but as far as nasty things are concerned, I think it's heaven! Now, the eastern half of the state is a different story. There are rattle snakes on the other side of the Cascade Mountains! Good luck with your move. I miss the ocean & mountains!
  14. It doesn't have a name, but I LOVE gooey brownies layered with chocolate pudding, whipped topping & shaved chocolate on top! YUM!!! If you want to go extreme, you can even drizzle carmel all over it before you put on the shaved chocolate.
  15. This egg bread is amazing! It's great right out of the oven with butter, and it also makes amazing french toast! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/a-number-one-egg-bread/detail.aspx
  16. If you were switching from Math Mammoth (just finished MM 5) to Saxon for the long haul, which Saxon book would you start with? I know every kid is different, but I'm trying to get a ball park idea of where to place ds if we decide to go w/ Saxon after MM. Thanks...
  17. Day 70 something ( just figured our school days out yesterday and have already forgotten what day we're on:tongue_smilie:) of 180 days.
  18. Absolutely not! You don't know what their long range goals are (what they have already done/studied and what they plan to do in the future), and there are so many different ways to learn everything. I'm sure over the course of the year they will be introduced to many language, science, nature things (and may more)without even trying. Even if they need a break from everything and are only focusing on bible & math for a year, I don't necessarily see that as a concern. Just my thoughts...:)
  19. I am afraid I have really messed writing up for my dd and need you advice as to how to fix things for her . Dd is using MFW AHL this year and really struggling with the writing assignments (which I'm afraid is partly my fault for switching curriculums on her so many times. I have definately learned my lesson and know that switching back & forth only causes problems, so now I need to fill in the holes I have created in her education). I think I need to take her back and build her skill & confidence before she is ready to tackle these "highschool" level assignments again. So I guess I am wondering if there is a program out there that will basically take her from the beginning to the end in the next 3 1/2 years so that she will be prepared writing after highschool (keeping in mind that I am teaching 4 other dc w/ a 2yo running around and in the middle of major home renovation so easy to use is a must for us! I am also not a writer/really do not like writing, so hand holding would be wonderful.)? TIA for your suggestions...
  20. I need an "other" option. I have 2 teen dd's. Our day starts at 7:00 (breakfast) and school starts at 8:00. Each dc is expected to be up, showered, dressed for the day w/ beds made by breakfast (not quite perfected, but getting pretty close). Dd15 gets up easily with her alarm. However, dd14 is a NIGHTMARE to get out of bed! We have tried everything from gentle "wake up" calls to switching on the light and taking the covers from her. Reguardless, it still takes about 30-45 minutes to get her out of bed and then she is usually grouchy because we woke her up. On the other hand, if she wants to get up, she will be the first one out of bed, using her alarm, dressed and waiting on the rest of us:confused:. I'm so confused by this child!
