  1. We use it and really like it! It's cheap, easy to use and my kids have done really well with it.
  2. Thank you guys for the encouragement! I know this time will pass and life will settle down again. I just want to try an make it as smooth and stress free a year as possible when it comes to school. I am going to pull out my SL IG again and look through it and also check out the Simply Charlotte Mason site. Thanks again for your support and encouragement, my day feels a little brighter already. :001_smile:
  3. Ok, long story short...there is a good possibility that we may be moving over the summer (hopefully summer and not later) to be closer to dh's job. We also found out that baby #7 will be joining us in December. So...I am really feeling the need to simplify this next year. Yesterday was very overwhelming for me and I am second guessing everything. So I am hoping you guys can set me straight again ('cause my mind is not working, due to pregnancy, Im sure :D). Anyway, here is what we did/are doing this year...please feel free to offer any thoughts, advice or even plan out my year for me. Anything you have to offer is greatly appreciated! 2011/2012 dd16(10th) MFW WHL (minus the writing), Writing With Skill, Biology, Algebra 1, Art, Health dd14(9th) MFW AHL (minus the writing), Writing With Skill, Biology, Pre-Algebra, Art, Logic ds12(6th) MFW Explor to 1850, Math Mammoth 6, WWE4, Spelling Power, Pentime 6 dd9 (3rd) MFW Explor to 1850, Math Mammoth 3, WWE 2, FLL 3, AAS 2, Pentime 3 dd5 (K ish) Explod the Code books, lots of reading, a few math things I was thinking about covering American History this next year (ds12 & dd9 need the 2nd half, dd16 & dd14 need the whole thing, but dd 5 can just join in to whatever we cover). Science is another issue for me. Both my older girls have finished biology this year, but dd14 struggled with algebra 1 so we dropped back to pre-algebra (Lials Beginning College Mathmatics) and she is doing well. We plan to move right into Lial's Introductory Algebra as soon as she finishes BCM, but doesn't that throw a kink into keeping them together foe Chemistry? Don't you have to complete algebra 1 before chemistry? So not sure what to do there... I had also thought about switching to SL (using core 100 with older girls, and core E with the youngers), but am now wondering if it will really make life more simple, or not. My mind is swimming now, so I am going to stop and hope you wonderful people have some great ideas for me. Thanks you so much for any help you can offer. I really appreciate all the help and support I receive here on this board. Sorry this got so long...:tongue_smilie:
  4. Wow, Claire #9! Congratulations to you too! How exciting!!
  5. Have you tried raw apple cider vinegar? My dad mixes a couple TBSP of raw apple cider vinegar with some honey and water and it helps every time (and very quickly). I've heard it recommended when your pregnant, too. I hope it gets better...
  6. Hahaha...that is funny. I got the nickname Katiebug from my bus driver when I was in kindergarten. :D Thanks everyone! I just had to tell someone...and I don't have that many people here to share the news with.
  7. We are expecting baby #7 to join us in December! The shock is fading and the excitement is setting in. Just had to share...that is all. :D
  8. I would have to say with a soft 't' sound. I checked from the midwest on the poll, but I am a transplant from the west coast (but been in the midwest the better part of 15 years).
  9. I am planning on using Apologia General Science with my ds12 this next year (7th grade) and was wondering which edition is the best to use? I used the first edition book with my girls several years ago, but have not had the opportunity to see a second edition book. Does anyone know what the differences are? Thanks so much for your help.
  10. I am currently about 6 1/2 weeks along with pregnancy # 7 and my pants are already getting pretty tight and uncomfortable! I'm thinking this might be the earliest that I have to start wearing maternity pants! My best guess is (since twins do not run in either mine or dh's family) that after 6 pregnancies and not being in the best of shape my muscles just are not there to hold it all in like my earlier pregnancies :tongue_smilie:.
  11. Just joined! Thanks so much for setting this up. It will be fun to have someone else to share this time with!
  12. Hey Nance, I can definately see the line now! :D Congrats!! I hope all goes well and you are blessed with a happy, healthy baby! I just joined the social group you started, so it will be fun keeping up with how things progress. Wishing you LOTS of patience...I think that is the hardest part!
  13. I see a faint second line...it could be a positive. I would test again first thing in the morning and see what happens. ** Ok, I should have read some of the responses before I posted. Congrats!! I hope all goes well. I can understand your excitement...dh & I just found out baby #7 is on the way.
  14. I'm not sure about Woodward specifically, but there are homeschoolers in NW Oklahoma (not sure about a "group" or activities, though). There are several homeschool groups in Enid if that is close enough for you. We are part of the EACHE (Enid Area Christian Home Educators) group, and there is also a Classical Conversations group that meets weekly.
  15. I haven't read any of the comments, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. Do you boil your liners? My ds had a rash problem several months after we began using cloth pocket diapers (we use Kawaii's), and someone told me to boil the liners for a couple minutes every couple months because it gets rid of any soap or bacteria build up. It really works for us. Here is what I do... I rinse out the used diapers and keep them in a pail of vinegar water (I pour, probably about a cup or two of vinegar in the bottome of the pail and fill it about 2/3 full with water). Then on washing day, I run them through a rinse cycle, heavy duty wash cycle & rinse with vinegar. Every couple months after the rinse cycle I will boil the liners for about 5-8 minutes then wash as usual and then dry (sometimes outside on the line, sometimes in the dryer). Oh, I also use homemade laundry soap (Fels naptha soap, baking soda & water). I hope you find something that works. I absolutely love cloth diapering! It saves so much $$, but not cool if your little one is not happy & comfortable.
  16. You're welcome! I also picked up the Ballantyne books...aren't Kindle's great!?!
  17. Hi all, A friend of mine told me about this book set and I thought I'd pass along the info because it is a great deal!! Right now on amazon you can get 70+ G.A. Henty books for your kindle for .99! This is the same book set (plus more) that Vision Forum sells the reprints of for over $800! I know these books are free public domain books, but to have all the books available in one download, with a selectable table of contents, is well worth the .99 to me. Hope someone can use this. :001_smile: http://www.amazon.com/The-Works-G-A-Henty-ebook/dp/B00433TAQU/ref=pd_sim_kstore_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2

  20. I think we would prefer a christian based science program, but I'm open to suggestions since Apologia & Abeka are pretty much the only science programs I have experience with. Thank you all for the suggestions...off to check them out.
  21. I LOVE this board! You guys are always so helpful. Thank you so much for all the programs given me to check out (even some I didn't know about). Thanks again...:001_smile:
  22. Thank you all for all the great programs. It sounds like I have quite a bit to look into. Out of curiosity...does anyone have any experience with Sonlight LA K? I know it seems to be a love/hate curriculum, but most of what I hear is from using it in the older elementary years.
  23. We started the year out with MFW K and it was a flop for dd5. I feel like I have failed because all but 1 of my choces for her kindy year have flopped for her. We have been using the ETC workbooks and she really loves those (she's working on ETC level C right now), but I would really like to find something to use over the summer that will really help her with reading. She knows most of her letters & sounds, but is still working on blending those sounds together. So, what do you LOVE for teaching a child to read?
  24. It worked for me...it looks pretty neat. Thanks for sharing.
