  1. Still free...I just got them! Thank you for sharing this resource!!
  2. I bought this last year through HSBC and it's been one of the best purchases I've made so far!! I absolutely LOVE that I didn't have to buy any math for my younger kids this year...just needed to print out their books! It's such a great deal for a great program!!! I hope you guys get enough buyers. **Oops...I just saw the it already ended, but did go for 50% off. YEAH!!!
  3. I really learned ALOT going through the Rod & Staff English books with my kids! I was suprised at how much I had forgotten/didn't know!
  4. I've tried PLL/ILL several times with my kids. I really wanted it to work because some sang it's praises and it looked so great...short, sweet and to the point. But, I have sold it for the last time. It just doesn't work for us. I also used FLL 3 with my 9 yo last year and we really enjoyed it, but it was very teacher intensive. So having 5 other children to teach and a baby due in December, we've decided to shelf FLL for now and try Essentials in Writing. It includes video lessons that can be watched w/o mom if necessary and the $40 price tag fits the budget, too. So, I'm not sure I have been any help, but I was feeling the way you are (too many irons in the fire...something had to give). So these are the changes we have made for this year in the hopes that my sanity will be saved and school will get done. Good luck...
  5. I bought the student text, teacher text, solutions manual, an assessment resource (quizzes/tests), and some patty paper. I like to have all the help I can get at the high school level. If you look at the TE sample, you will see on page 4 that the TE shows the answers (in red) to the questions in the lesson. I like having my own copy of the text (with answers to the problems). I like the pacing options, the homework assignments, and the materials list at the front of the chapter. I only use the solutions manual when I can't figure out how to get the answer. I don't know if you need both the teacher book and the solutions manual. I like to have both because I like all the help I can get at the high school level. I used the teacher book more than the solutions manual, but if I didn't have a degree in math, I might have used the solutions manual more than the teacher book. Good luck! Thank you so much! You have been very helpful! :001_smile:
  6. Hey Sue, thank you for the ISBN's. Those will be very helpful! Do I need all three books? What is the difference between the teacher book and the solutions manual?
  7. Can I ask where you bought it? I'm having a hard time finding a text & solutions manual (same edition). I'm sure I'm making this harder than it is, but I'm stressing a little because I need this set last week! LOL!!
  8. Hello, I would like to use Discovering Geometry with my dd this year, but am having trouble finding a complete set. I can buy a textbook or maybe a solutions manual on amazon or buy.com etc. but I would really like to find a complete set. Does anyone know where I can buy this (for cheap :D)?
  9. Great, thank you so much! You ladies are always so helpful!! :001_smile:
  10. I am so excited to use Essentials in Writing with my kids this year! It looks like a great program. I know there are several on this board that have already used it so I am wondering how you scheduled it (how many days per week etc.)? I will be using grades 1, 4, 7, 10, & 11 (I know grades 10 & 11 have not been released yet, so I don't expect anyone to know about scheduling for those, but I would really appreciate it if you would share how the younger grades worked for you. We're getting off to a little bit of a late start and I really need all the help I can get w/o haveing to spent hours researching things, kwim? Thanks so much for anything you have to offer.
  11. We are! We had to escape the 115 degree summer heat where we live so we are enjoying a nice long visit with my parents where it is MUCH cooler (had to buy my kids jackets when we got here!LOL!!), so we wont get home until the end of August. We have a wedding to attend the first of Sept. and finishing a long home remodel project (hopefully) so I'm planning on not starting until the second week of Sept. PS started Aug. 9th where we live, but even if we were home, I couldn't imagine trying to stay focused when it was so HOT!!! I love the flexibility of homeschooling!!
  12. Definately a snow day! I'd call off school and go play in the snow (especially if it rarely happens where you are)!!! Enjoy! School will always be there later.
  13. If you already have a bunch of clothes for the next season, pick out the number of outfits that you are comfortable with them having, then put the rest up in the attic (or garage or wherever). If they start getting faded, stained or ripped then you can replace them with "new" clothes but maintain a limited amount. I started limiting my younger kids clothes for the same reason (they had way too much and couldn't keep it all put away) and things are going much better now (doing laundry is not near the chore that it used to be). I just try to keep a couple extras stored away in case something needs replaced.
  14. Yes it does. Red food dye is aweful stuff! I have found that my kids that are sensitive to it get hyperactive and grouchy/grumpy (like a previous poster said not a full blown rage/anger, but definayely grouchy/overly touchy & grumpy). We aviod the stuff like the black plague! :D
  15. Oh how awful!! I'm so sorry! I can't even begin to imagine the emotions your are experiencing. I would think that far worse than even losing your things (not trying to make light of that...'cause that's bad enough) is the thought that someone invaded your home! That just has to be a horrible feeling. I hope all is found and returned to you unharmed. :grouphug:
  16. I am looking at using this program with my dc this next year. I don't think the 8th grade and above levels are out yet, so that is why they wont ship until Aug/Sept.
  17. Not sure if it's the same thing, but we had a chicken that injured her leg and was limping around. It turned green and I thought for sure she was a goner (I know, that's horrible). But she limped around for a couple weeks and her green leg healed up and she was back to normal (color and all). Hope all works out well for your chicken.
  18. I'll be 53 at the earliest...not sure how I feel about it 'cause it is so far away (at least 18 years since dc #7 wont joing us until December). I would love to be able to travel, go on mission trips and volunteer (although I expect to be able to start doing some of those things before all the kids are grown and gone...just have to wait until they are a little bit older (although I'm in no hurry for that, they grow too fast already!!!).
  19. :grouphug: Praying for strength and comfort for your family. I can't imagine all the emotions that you are feeling all at once. May your daughter and all the family shamelessly enjoy a joyful wedding day while mourning the loss of a family member.
  20. In my area, I look to spend .50 - 1.00 a piece for good gently used (no stains or holes) kids clothes at yard sales. However, if it is a good quality name brand and in very good condition, I would pay as much as $2 (this would be for jeans or dresses...very rarely would I pay more than $1 for a top). This is just the average of what things go for here where I live. I know if you get closer to the cities, things can go for more. Good luck! I will second the COLD drink sales from a pp! When I have a garage sale, I usually make cinnamon rolls, mini banana bread, cookies etc. and sell out early on.
  21. My ds was 9 when ds #2 was born. I just kept a light blanket on the back of the couch and put it over my shoulder when nursing (I would have done this even if I only had girls...that's just me, I'm more comfortable if I'm covered). It was no big deal to him at all.
  22. We are in the same boat that you are! We have been commuting about an hour away for church for 3 1/2 years...Dh got a job in the same town as our church 2 years ago...and our homeschool group is there as well. So, needless to say we are moving. This will be the first time we sell a house, though, so it's a whole new experience for us. Wishing you all the best.
  23. Ooo...I really like the looks of this suit! Thanks for sharing, this might be exactly what dd and I have been looking for (why do the great ones always have to be so expensive?).
  24. I joined fb a couple years ago thinking it would be a great way to keep in touch with family and friends that I never get to see. I've been torn, and come close many times to deleting my account. The only think keeping me on is the fact that I really do enjoy hearing from friends & family that live far away and I know I wouldn't have contact with if I didn't have fb. So, for now, I remain on fb, but I really limit who is my "friend" and has access to my info (which is very limited, as well).
  25. I can totally sympathize with you! I hate caving like that because like you, as soon as I cave, I sit there fuming wondering what I was thinking so nothing gets done! I have had to get down right "mean" when it comes to "my one day." I guess it helps that we don't have neighbor kids nearby, but even when friends are over I struggle with everyone following the rules (food stays in the kitchen or outside, if you're wet use natures towel...the sun...and dry off before entering the house etc.). I don't think our rules are too much to ask, and after being "run over" by friends that "don't know better" several times, I have no problem hollering down the hallway to my kids or their friends reminding them of the rules. They keep coming back, so I haven't scared anyone away yet. I guess I'm not the "wicked witch of the neighborhood" yet! LOL!! Good luck. Standing your ground is hard!
