  1. I think that is a horrible thing for a father to say to his daughter! The man shoud be horse whipped! Those kind of comments can be so damaging to children. I can understand why she wants to change her name. I wouldn't want to be named after my dads "red hot girlfriend." The best advice that I can give is to pray about it. If you seek God's will, and wait patiently, He will give you a sense of peace, one way or another.
  2. I also make my own soap, but use a powder recipe. I use 1 bar of Fels Naptha Soap (grated), 1c. Arm & Hammar Washing Soda, and 1C. Borax. Mix it together, and stor in a container. I use 1-2 TBSP per load. I have used this recipe for about a year now, and we really like it! Fels Naptha Soap also washes out poison ivy/oak oils, and since dd & dh are highly alergic, it has really helped in that area. My friend, that is also using this recipe has 2 kids with skin conditions, and the Fels Naptha is kind of irritating to their skin, so she uses ZOTE instead and that seems to be working out well.
  3. I don't know what you budget is, but you can have a modest swim suit custome made at www.modest-swimwear.net . They also sell ready made swim suits, I'm just not sure about ready made maternity suits. Hope this helps,
  4. At three, I would say it is probably a growth spurt and he' probably needs more, but definately wouldn't allow sweets etc. Only healthy/raw veggies and fruit or toast etc.
  5. I think it's more of a physical growth issue than an age issue. If you, as a parent, have noticed a need, then that need probably needs to be addressed. I think it's better to buy a bra too early than to wait until someone else suggests that one is needed.
  6. I grew up in WA (6 miles south of Canada) and we say it loy-yer, but when I met my husband and was introduced to Oklahoma, I realized it's a whole different language down here! In OK it is pronounced law-yer. So I will agree, it must be a north/south thing!
  7. It was 70 here today, but the high for tomorrow is supposed to be 43! I wish the weather would make up it's mind and quit teasing me with spring! Ha!Ha!
  8. OK, I have not experienced this exact problem, so I probably should keep my mouth shut, but I have a hard time doing that. Feel free to ignore me if you wish, but here are my thoughts. If he is extremely bright and advanced for his age like you say, then mabye hitting and acting out is his way of telling you he's bored??? Or needs activities at a higher level?? Hope you find a solution, Katie :0)
  9. This is going to sound gross, but it works! When ever my husband starts getting sick, he mixes together and drinks 1-2 TBSP of raw organic apple cider vinegar, 1-2 TBSP honey, and 1-2 TBSP water. The vinegar and honey are natural antibiotics and so far it has worked for us every time. Elderberry tincture is another one we use all the time, as a preventitive, and to help get over all kinds of "bugs." Hope this helps, Katie :0)
  10. Hi, We are studying Ancient Egypt in history right now, and I am having trouble finding worksheets online to use for my kids. Does anyone know where I can find free printable worksheets for this topic? Thanks so much, Katie :0)
  11. I have these pages I will send you if you want. We started MFW K last year and my dd wasnt ready for it then, so I sold it thinking I would go a different rout. Then I bought another set this year, but since we had already done the creation lessons, we skipped it this time. So if you have the time to wait for the mail, you can have mine. Send me your mailing address if you are interested. Have a great day, Katie Katiebug_1976@yahoo.com
  12. Hi, Looking forward to next year, I think I have decided to let my will be 1st grader tag along with my older kids doing MFW RtR and just get her age appropriate phonics and math. That being decided, I need some help in finding a phonics program that is easy for me to sit down and teach (I am a very visual learner and have a hard time reading pages and pages of instructions), but we have to watch the budget too. It doesn't stretch very much anymore. I would like to hear your opinions on what worked well for you and why and mabye what didn't work so well to give me an idea of what to look at and what to stay away from. Thanks so much,
  13. Hi, I am trying to decide which edition of Saxon math 7/6 to get for my daughter. Does anyone know what the difference is between the 3rd edition and the current 4th edition? Thanks so much,
  14. Thank you all for the info. I really appreciate it. Katie :0)
  15. Your welcome. Sorry it took so long, I'm new to this site and am still learning how to use it. :0)

  16. We did the Explorers and the Colonial Life study earlier this year and really had a blast with it! There are enough activities that you could make it last quite a bit longer than the recommended 5 weeks if you wanted to. I used these programs with my 4 children ages 12, 11, 8, and 6. For the explorers study, each one made their own lapbook. But for the Colonial study, I divided up the activities between them and we created one lapbook that had parts made by all my children. I would recommend this program to anyone. It is a great program and well worth the money! Katie :0)
  17. Hi, We have already completed MFW ECC and are currently using MFW CtG and Kindergarten program. I agree with you about the science. It is a little sporatic. I have decided to use the Apologia elementary science courses beginning next year either on top of or instead of the MFW science. I found a website that has put together a lear n' folder (lap book) to go along with all the Apologia courses. We haven't used them yet, but we have ordered the General Science Learn n' Folder for my older daughter to use hopefully beginning next week. From what I saw of their samples, I think it is really going to be a great benefit to us. Anyway, if this sounds like something that might intrest you, their website is www.liveandlearnpress.com Katie :0) Mom to 5 beautiful blessings :grouphug: dd-12 :seeya: MFW CtG, TT Pre-Algebra, R&S English, Apologia General Science dd-11:smilielol5: MFW CtG, Math in limbo, R&S English ds-8 :auto: MFW CtG, Singpore 2A&2B, R&S English dd-6  MFW K dd-2 :smash: Learning all I can while I wait for my turn
  18. I think that MFW ECC would be good to use if you possibly have a baby coming. Since you have a 10 yo that is an independent reader, she can help out with some of the reading when you don't feel up to it and help you "stay on track." Like others have said, ECC uses the same basic plan week after week, just changing the country of study. We really enjoyed it, and the repetition was good for me, since we had a baby mid year, and my oldest girls were able to help out with reading to the younger ones. I did get a little restless towards the end, but I can't blame that on the curriculum because I get restless whenever spring gets close no matter what we are using. We switched away from MFW this year, and I found myself so stressed out by my "better choices" that in January we went back to MFW CtG and now being 7 weeks into it, life is good again. My advice would be try to combine the history, science, art/music etc and just use age appropriate LA and math. I can't imagine trying to keep up with seperate "grade levels" for all subjects for all 4 of my school aged children everyday! Hope you find what works for you. 19. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used The Heart of Dakota curriculum, specifically Little Hearts for His Glory? I am currently using My Father's World Kindergarten with my 6yo daughter. We are not enjoying it as much as I though we would, so I am considering switching to HOD for 1st grade. I would greatly appreciate any info you could give me, positive or negative.
