  1. I had a good experience calling Kitchenaid when an attachment didn't work right. They even paid for the porch pickup service. And we have a local HVAC guy I think is excellent. Not cheap, but excellent.
  2. I would spend a few hours reading it. I read Educated, and it gave me a chance to recall the experiences of some childhood friends. I wouldn't go out and spend money on the mom's response, though. If the library gets it, I'll read it. Just as an aside, it kills me when people refer to Educated as a book about homeschooling!
  3. I love it! I feel like I can see beautiful potential, and the shape is graceful. Now I want a pergola. Hmmm.
  4. I'm pretty sure distributing video of private behavior without consent is illegal in every state. Assuming that's the situation, I'd definitely call the non-emergency line and connect with a detective that handles that sort of thing. If that's what is going on. I'm so sorry. How messed up.
  5. There's a 5-morning kids' pickleball summer camp here, offered through parks and rec. I'm trying to talk the kids into it, but they are so far opposed. They think it's a weird name for a sport. I'm trying to give them the athleticism I don't have. Sigh.
  6. AOPS is really working for both of my kids this year. GFTWTM was effective for my son, mostly. We only did the first 40 lessons, but I felt like he got it and it sure was easy to implement! Pandia Press RSO Biology 2 has been a huge hit! We splurged on a nice microscope and we're all getting a kick out of actually seeing the things!
  7. They (the Noom creators) put out a book which i picked up at my library because I'm cheap. It seemed poorly written, carelessly cited, and casual with statistics. If I'm going to pay, I want awesome. Boy, ask me what I really thought! But maybe your library has the book if you want an overview.
  8. AI reported...zombie 🧟‍♂️ AI!
  9. I think a certain percent of homeschool parents have an idealistic streak, running straight toward an extremist streak. I say this a homeschool parent and a homeschool graduate. There's frequently something unusual about people who say, you know what, I can do a better thing than is the norm around me, and I'm gonna. That aspect of a personality is often expressed in more than one arena of life. Maybe it's religion, maybe they're very crunchy, maybe they won't trust the regular medical establishment. Maybe they read all the banned books and teach their kids a very home-cooked history program. 🙋‍♀️ Obviously, not all are homeschooling because of that idealism! But some.
  10. If you scroll down this page, there are a few links specifically for male survivors. However, I think some of the general links are also set up to help men. https://www.rainn.org/national-resources-sexual-assault-survivors-and-their-loved-ones
  11. My cat tried to die on me a month ago. She's doing ok now, amazingly! Long story, she was in pain, and a new pain shot had her back to her usual, crabby self. Anyway, I had to directly ask the vet, what are the arrangements I need to consider for euthanasia? I had to say the word. Asking about "hospice care" didn't trigger that conversation. I had to be specific. And after giving me all the details, my sweet vet offered me a hug... and that made me cry right there in the office! I can imagine the crazy she has to work with.
  12. Wow, that is... What a way to put your business in a dumpster and light it on fire.
  13. My cat is old and doesn't care to go outside anymore, but she was quite a stinker in her youth. I spent all day opening and closing the back door for her. She didn't roam far. She'd complain to my husband when he came home, as if the day staff around the house was sub-par. One time she tried to come in with a kicking lizard in her mouth! I almost opened the door before I saw him wiggling under her chin! But she wouldn't actually do anything about killing it. She would have let him go. Once, when I was on crutches with a broken ankle, there was a lizard in my bathroom. She yelled at him until I hobbled in. Then she walked away! She looked back at me like, "Take care of it." Poor cat; she's 18 and on monthly pain shots now.
  14. Oh, in that case you could wear dark shoes and look just great. Absolutely.
  15. Thanks for this podcast recommendation! I've learned a lot from just a few episodes. The one about college viability was also very interesting.
  16. Me too. The second one is my personal style, but I disagree that the first one is too dark for spring! It's pretty. What if you wore it with skin-tone shoes and a light purse? Would that brighten it up enough? Or even the pink that's in the flowers!
