  1. Well done! :hurray: A month early? That is quite an endorsement. So happy for you!
  2. :iagree: with finding a love once a student is at a school. My mus ed major found a deep love for music theory. *Cough* Freak! *Cough!* :leaving: JK....Sort of. This one hopes to get a PhD in music theory. One prof told me it takes a special person to dive into theory that deeply. That's my kid! We're so glad she found this love, though, and support her 100%. Just, you know, not financially. ;) Great advice from Creekland (as always) and others here. Is it feasible for her to take any of those bio or chem courses over the summer? At that school? It'd be an intense time of it, but it would free up her schedule during the regular school year. and help lighten the load. I realize housing could be an added expense that might be a deal breaker for summer classes. Both of ours took many gen eds before going to college, but one took 2 required classes online before starting college. He is so glad to have those behind him. A hall mate is struggling in the first of those 2 classes now. When I asked ds what helped him the most for college prep, this is one thing he mentioned. (I am a goober and get "after action reports" from my dc about what I could have done better, what worked, etc. Yes, even from my baby/last student.) Best of luck to your dd!
  3. I'm so happy for you! DD had a bit of trouble finding the Music Theory AP, but it worked out in the end. I was clueless, it was all her hard work to nail down a spot. A friend had a very difficult time finding a school that was giving the Italian AP exam. A small private school was great for us for the PSAT. What a relief to find something so close to home and have it be the place your dc might attend in the future. :)
  4. I would be extremely frustrated! Congrats to your ds for his accomplishment!
  5. :iagree: I understand the words Ali typed but not the concept. I love it when I have leftover time to veg.
  6. I don't have anything made by Miele, but from what I understand it's one of those few appliances a man can give a woman for her birthday, Christmas, an anniversary, even for Valentine's, and not only NOT be in trouble, but revered. ;) Edited to ask: what model did you get?
  7. Mike Rowe for president! Can I say that? :leaving:
  8. :iagree: Oh, my. I could have gone ALL DAY LONG w/o knowing this.
  9. I would send him to my D.O. Our pediatrician is a DO too, but is 100% allopathic. My DO who does manipulation did more to relieve my back injury after 1 visit than what I got from 6 weeks of chiropractic care. Full disclosure: I had no sciatica pain, but Dr. Wonderful has helped others w that. A friend got an epidural that has relieved his sciatica for months. :grouphug:
  10. She's gorgeous! Congrats! We had a yellow lab who had to be put down the day I gave birth to my youngest. That was >18 years ago, and I'm still not over it. Can't get another one. Can't let myself love that much again. I'm glad for her to have such a great home and I'm glad you all have her to love.
  11. Isn't it perfect? I put it in quotes b/c the words are not mine, but, like you, I loved them when I first heard them and committed them to memory. I hope to learn the author one day. A wise homeschooling friend quoted it to me many years ago.
  12. Love this! Love that school district's decision and that your mother is being helped in this way.
  13. "To those who would understand, no explanation is necessary. To those would not, none would suffice."
  14. This friend got hers on Black Friday, I believe from Kohl's for ~$200, IIRC. Another got theirs at an open box store and saved a ton. I've seen a huge model at Costco. Not sure I need one that big, but their return policy makes me think about it. It won't happen soon as we have other financial goals and more pressing things right now. Quill, any problems on hardwood floors? Another friend had one many years ago and said it scratched her hardwood floors. That would be a deal breaker. Perhaps they've improved since then?
  15. Roomba??? I never thought I'd want one, but I've seen a friend's in action and now I'm intrigued.
  16. Does she focus better after physical exercise? I say that b/c one of mine was much better at focusing after getting all the wiggles out. That grew into good, hardy exercise and later work (chopping wood and stacking it) as the child got older. School work got done faster and in a more meaningful way. Heck, my whole family focuses better after exercise.
  17. I am :bigear: especially regarding Aldi comparisons. I :001_wub: Wegmans too, but my budget leans more to Aldi. I saw one under construction and thought it was a government building w/ the security around that construction! (Privacy screen on the fence around the site, locked gate, and a guard!)
  18. I sent it to all the schools w/ both of mine. I love the insight Gwen in VA got in that stealth way. :hurray:
  19. When it's me, I try to avoid being w/ others. I would never expect anyone else to, however, and hope I would show much grace to a person in such a state in public/ my company.
