Thank you for your sound advice on visiting colleges:
"So, our plan for ds is to prioritize the list. Those colleges that are seriously high priority and on his "most desired" short list, will get visits from August - November of the senior year and I hope that is not more than five. The ones that look interesting and could be a go, but aren't high on the list, will get spring and summer visits and unless they offer big bucks - always something that will get them a second look - or have a surprising positive impact on us, then we won't attempt to make time for them in the fall schedule."

Hi!
I homeschooled my 2 dc for 11 years and last year I was home without anyone to homeschool (younger ds started gr. 8 at ps). I started Saxon algebra 1 with Art Reed dvds last year. Well, I'm still doing Saxon algebra 1. I get about half way through the text and then abandon it for one reason or another.
I would really like to get through Saxon algebra 1! So count me in on a math self-ed group if you start one.

Merry Christmas, Faithe! I wish you and your family many blessings this Christmas season.
Peace,
Michelle

Faithe,
I'm sorry for your loss. My mother has been gone for 15 yrs. It's hard!

Rebecca,
I'm with you - no trick or treating in the teen years! It's normal here and we're tired of it so we go to dinner and come back after it's over. We get 200-300 kids at our door every year (for 18 yrs) and we're tired of it. The teens are disrepectful and it's no longer fun for us to buy $$ candy & hand it out to teens. My teens don't like it either (going out or handing out candy).

Jann,
Thanks for all your helpful tips on subbing. I'm re-reading all those posts before I start my first sub day tomorrow in my son's class, lol.

I'm sorry to hear about your soccer disappointment. Sports is over-rated. It sometimes does the opposite of what we we're looking for. It's no longer about teamwork - it's ALL about winning. That's WRONG esp. for grades K-8 in my book.

Pamela,
A special thanks for your VERY helpful post on subbing. I really could use all the help I can get! :)

I would love to attend the NE conference, but I am no longer homeschooling as of 2 weeks ago after homeschooling my 2 dc for 11+ yrs. I'm sad that this wasn't available when I did homeschool. But TWTM just came out when I began homeschooling along with TWTM boards, and I am EXTREMELY greatful for those resources all these years.
Keep up the good work!
Blessing,
Michelle

Have you looked at joing the new "gettting healthy" social group under the tab on top "community"? We could use more members. :)

I don't know if you saw but my younger ds started grade 8 today (his very first day of traditional school ever) ; this was a last minute change in our plans. To my surprise, he will be using CPO Physical Science and CPO Earth Science for grade 8 science! I bought CPO Life Science to use at home this year - ugh.
Since you recommended CPO Science to the boards, I thought I'd share. :)

Here's my ds's school book list: St . John's High School
Not sure this will help you but I thought I'll let you know anyway. :)
