You are not alone. Mine are thrilled beyond words on the rare occasion I make them some junk food. It is a bit depressing. However, I can remember the thrill of the rare moments when my mother would buy sugar coated cereal so I suppose this is a normal reaction.
That show is a train wreck. I have only seen it twice (one of those episodes involved a homeschooling family-and they seemed somewhat normal to me) and I don't think any of the families on the show were representative of most people. They are all portrayed as freaks of some kind. That is what gets the ratings.
I just opened one recently for my all natural dog treat business.

A friend of mine sells beautiful hand knit items on etsy but she has been busy setting up her pottery studio and her store is currently empty.
Oy! I hear similar stories from friends and relatives who are teachers. What never ceases to amaze me is that they complain about these things but I am still the nutter for homeschooling.
Beautiful schoolroom. It looks like a great space for learning.
Maybe someday I will have pics of a space other then my dining room which is decorated in early middle school.
Wallet-with assorted necessaries in it
A print out a friend gave me on exponents
Receipts. Lots and lots of receipts. Plus assorted pieces of scrap paper that I wrote notes on.

That is great. That is usually the response my kids get. Although when we first started the neighbor kids all told my kids that they better go back to school or they wouldn't get into a good college (this from the ages 7-10 crowd). :glare:
Wedding-$250, more if the kids are attending with us.
Shower- $25-$50 depending on how close I am with the family.
Graduation $25-$50-depends on how close I am with the family.
Funeral-send food to the house afterward with a card.
I am in New Jersey for perspective. I also agree with a pp, that you give what you can. True friends really do not care.
I love purging. I never manage to purge as much as I want to thanks to other family members. Now that I am thinking about it, I am do to start a major purge.
Yes, I would be comfortable leaving my almost 18 year old home alone if dh and I were planning a romantic getaway. If I was planning a family vacation, said almost 18 year old would be coming whether they wanted to or not.
For me it was 40. We had our two a couple of years apart because if we decided to go for a third I didn't want to be pregnant at 40. My dd, who I do love to pieces, cured me of the desire for more children.
