  1. They look interesting but I don't think they are for me. I hated toe socks in the 70's. To this day I can't wear flip flops because I hate the feel of that thing between my toes. The thought of all my toes being individually wrapped does not appeal. I do know a couple of people who love them.
  2. That seems like a lot to me. Is your ds enjoying the class? If so, then I would work with him to learn the material and meet the expectations.
  3. the first thing you do after removing a stinger from your dd's hand is examine it and start looking up what kind of bee it was.
  4. I ship priority mail, so it depends on your zip code. I believe the top shipping I have seen is $5.00 to get to California. The sampler package weighs approx 2lbs.
  5. A fairly decent chunk in my district goes to the lawyers.
  6. Mine don't like to play outside unless they have friends over. I force them out there. I have officially turned into my mother with my constant refrain "It is a beautiful day, get outside." They have always been this way. They eventually find something to do when they are out there. Truthfully, I hated to be outside as a kid. Too hot, too cold, too many bugs.
  7. Now I feel guilty for using it with my dd. We explained the whys, the steps, the everything and she just couldn't get it until I gave her that phrase. Of course, what really cemented it was relating it to toys. The toys cost $5,539 and you have $36. How many toys can you buy.
  8. This is my post in response to the where I like it posts: My lovely friends; where "you like it" handbag posts don't really do anything to address breast cancer issues.ACTION speaks louder than 'feel good' posts. Awareness of breast cancer is good BUT we need to address the root causes, better treatments, and address the inequities in our own society. For more info about... taking action see bcaction.org. Have fun but also, maybe, do more?
  9. You are all better women then me. The food particles gross my dh out and I don't care. I make him do it anyway.
  10. You gals are so awesome. Thank you for the great ideas. I am capable of iron on patches. I may even be able to pull off the elephant bells. I knew the hive was the place to help me. Mysticametyst-I am glad to know I am not alone. My dd seems to tower over most of her friends. She just squeaks past 5' and I can tell she is about to have a growth spurt.
  11. I have to say the no shows run rampant in my homeschool groups. I think it is disrespectful to the organizer and the people who work at the location of the field trip. It drives me batty since I suffer from "on time disease" and I assign importance to commitments and show up if I say I am going to show. I no longer organize group field trips. If I come across something interesting I invite a few select friends along and that is it.
  12. Either we are great minds or equally old. :001_smile:
  13. Margaritas for everyone! Which pity item are we partying about?
  14. That was a powerful blog post. I felt transported back to childhood. I was also one of the lucky ones who figured out that I was not what everyone else said I was. It is because of the bullying my son experienced (starting in 2nd grade) that we started homeschooling. It is an epidemic. It is heartbreaking.
  15. Interesting question. Most of the blogs I follow are friends of mine. The few that are total strangers are blogs with children around my age or they make me laugh like this one http://mompetition.blogspot.com/
  16. I asked that very question. It seems the groovy one wears more of a mod style (think psychedelic) then the long flowery skirt. I think I have her convinced she can wear her shirt with peace signs and a solid color skirt and we will get her some accessories. I do appreciate all the suggestions. I will definitely be hitting up the thrift store.
  17. I cook fish on my stoneware all the time. I have never had any residual fish odor.
  18. I was thinking "Miller Time". Or maybe "Calgon take me away" time. I am sorry about your grandmother. That is hard. Definitely done for the day time.
  19. I have looked online for discussion questions, asked the librarian (I love the librarian in the children's room), and sometimes my kids have even come up with some ideas for discussion.
  20. This year she wants to be a hippie. A groovy hippie. The flower child look which I can make out of clothes she already owns is no good. I will thankfully take any suggestions. I am just happy my ds decided this year all he needs is a fake nose and glasses.
  21. I go through this every year. My taller/larger than average 10 year old no longer fits in the age appropriate costumes. The costumes she does fit in are too far from modest for my comfort zone. She doesn't need to be covered from head to toe but she also does not need to be a Sexy Pirate or a Sexy Ninja or a Sexy whatever. Nor does she want to dress up as Lady Gaga, a Diva, etc. I have zero talent for sewing my own. So frustrating.
  22. I will teach them the basics of the metric system. The reality is, it is not part of my everyday life. I know it is supposed to be easier then the system I know but I had difficulty learning it in the 70's and I still have not mastered it.
