  1. I'm interested also. I just read through the thread. I've been heartbroken over Shirley's closing. We love the crafts. So can you email me? I'm rarely on the forums. Martha Email: godsaggie@gmail.com
  2. Kudos to you! If the relationship ends, that is unfortunate. Hopefully your sister understand.
  3. We've just started with coconut oil (but you said that isn't working.) We are in a very dry area as well and are freezing our tails off! My poor kids have all these bumps all over their arms and legs from severe dry skin. I have three humidifiers running non-stop right now to see if that will help. Someone else mentioned apple cider vinegar which should really help with your dry scalp. Sorry you have to deal with this.
  4. Raw milk is not legal to purchase in our state unless it is through a share in a herd. I would be ever so grateful to your neighbor. Here is some information for you: http://www.rawmilk.org/default.php ETA: http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/raw-milk-safe-for-babies This is a great article too.
  5. :D  This comment about had me laughing so hard I almost peed my pants: "There is nothing like having high tea. If any of you are ever in London, go to Harrod's Dept Store, 4th floor and have high tea in the Georgian Room restaurant. It is quite an experience!"
  6. Lara Bars are a wonderful whole food bar. Oatmeal, raisins, dried fruit, & other things to make homemade granola. Candied nuts: heat your walnuts or almonds or pecans in your saute pan until they are well toasted. add maple syrup and stir until crystals form. So yummy! I got this recipe from Nourishing Traditions. And if she is really following Weston A. Price, she wouldn't want nuts that aren't refrigerated. Nuts that are kept at room temp go rancid easily. Is there a local natural foods store near her college? Maybe get a gift card for her.
  7. I live in a small mountain town (16000 population) in Colorado that is a serious tourist hotspot. It is very laid back but I wouldn't say slow. It actually frustrates me because people don't care about normal things (like wearing shorts and a tshirt to a wedding.) It is too darn expensive to live here for sure! But you can't beat the view. I do get fairly jaded though and take it for granted. I'm sick of dodging all the deer and elk. I'm also sick of having only one store to shop (Wal-Mart.) I'm only here because I grew up here. In addition to the view, one big positive is a very low crime rate.
  8. My dd turns 4 tomorrow. My mom got her a cute Denver Broncos cheerleading outfit. We got her a cuddleuppet and a toy learning laptop. I gave my inlaws ideas for all kinds of learning toys. I love anything Melissa & Doug. They have some great magnetic dress-up toys like the bears and princess and ballerina. Her other request is play make-up and dress-up stuff.
  9. Farkle! My absolute favorite game. You don't have to play anyone else (although you have the option of that.)
  10. With the exception of an extended drive to see family, you have described exactly where I live! We are only a 6 hour drive to my dh's family. Most of my family is here which is why we moved here to begin with...but they aren't keeping us here (we almost never see them.) We love the small town life and the slow pace of things. You would be surprised at what types of art and culture are available when you start looking (certainly not on the same level as a metropolitan area.) Good luck!
  11. I'm so glad that there is a little good news. I'll continue to pray for you and the family. :grouphug:
  12. Oh.My.Goodness!!! I just did a search and got totally sucked in to watching it online! I can NOT believe this is a real show!
  13. I'm 38 and had baby #4 at 37. Baby #2 came when my oldest was 5 so they weren't exactly playmates. My oldest has been awesome and such a great helper. Prayers for you guys...
  14. *Sigh* I have such a hard time with this myself. I love the products from VF. I have sat and listened to Phillips' teachings and get a totally different vibe from him in person than when I read his blog. It's so weird. :glare: I totally understand the roles given to men and women from the bible and strive to live that way. Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world and things aren't perfect. I plan to have leadership roles once I have extra time...meaning after the kids are grown. At this point in my life, I'm too stinkin busy with life to even consider doing anything extra! :001_smile:
  15. I felt the same way with my oldest dd. Then we switched to Spelling Power and have seen a big improvement. We still have some issues in everyday writing, but I think that has more to do with laziness. :)
  16. This blog: http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/ It is a great website for frugal living and tons of wonderful recipes. She even has a menu plan for $50 a week for a family of 4 which could be lowered for only two people.
  17. Wow...that is very bizarre behavior. I would go ahead and mail the letter and pictures to him. Then he can't accuse you of leaving him out of everything. :grouphug:
  18. We spent some time with my BIL & SIL who keep their thermostat at around 80 during the summer. I was dying from the heat! I couldn't even sleep at night because I was so stinkin hot. I voted that I would adjust the temperature to help any guests in my home. However, to a rude teenager, I would just tell her to put on a sweater if she is so darn cold!
  19. I own a Janome ... bought it new for around $500. But my dream machine is a Bernina. If you can find one used, I would buy it. My MIL has had her Bernina from when she got married 38 years ago, and it still runs like a dream. Someone suggested estate sales and sewing shops. Our old quilt store used to sell their classroom models for a great price.
  20. Shed lots of tears. :crying: I will sometimes feel better after a good cry. It is hard for me to pray when I am devastated by something. I have an amazing prayer partner who will pray for me whenever I feel I can't pray for myself. It also helps me to read Psalms. Quiet time alone...
  21. Shake out the sillies Going on a bear hunt (there is a water sequence) Oh My Darlin Clementine Head, shoulders, knees, and toes Hokey Pokey Wheels on the bus
  22. I am fortunate and married into a family that loves to celebrate birthdays. MIL is 12/11, BIL is 12/25, and FIL is 12/31. Then our oldest was born 12/18. We all strive to make each person feel special on their birthday...especially BIL on 12/25. We will have a Christmas celebration and then do his birthday party in the evening. I have worked diligently to ensure that my dd has a separate party for her birthday. It is tough to get friends to come since it is so close to Christmas.
