  1. Have you tried sequential spelling? My daughter's spelling grade went way up after we got texting on her phone. We told her she could have texting IF she always spelled everything out. She didn't want to be made fun of so she worked really hard to spell things right. She improved 3 grade levels this last year.
  2. My state requires my dd to have a civics and economics class. The college program she wants to attend also requires it. The only thing I can find is government and economics. I think that will be okay but I was hoping someone could recommend something for us. We like all in one programs. Thank you!
  3. Yes, it is normal. My horses lay down several times during the day. There can be something wrong when a horse lays down, but they usually have other signs too. This can include getting up and down frequently, biting at his/her side, not eating food and many other things. It is nice of you to be concerned. I wish I had neighbors to do that. I am usually a lurker but this is a subject I am familiar with so I thought I would help out.
  4. My oldest DD wants Shepard's pie for dinner tonight. The only problem is, I forgot what is in it. I have mashed potatoes, ground beef, cheese, vegetables, tomato sauce or tomato paste. I don't know what order it goes in or if there is anything else. Anyone have a recipe?
  5. Thank you everyone for your replies! I am going to try some oxy and dawn and see what happens, but I agree it is not a savings if it doesn't clean.
  6. We do. We just got back from a gaming show. We own 4 horses. Two of our horses are quarter horses, one is a walking horse, and one is a Shetland pony.
  7. I haven't tried the oxy. Maybe that will do it. We have soft water so I don't understand why homemade doesn't work for us.
  8. **sigh** I guess it's back to the more expensive stuff for me too, although I am going to try mixing it with the homemade stuff to see if that works. Thanks for the help.
  9. For those of you who make your own laundry detergent, does it work? I have been making the Duggars' recipe and it is cheap and easy, but we live on a farm with horses and we sweat! I just don't feel that our clothes are smelling as fresh as they should after being washed. I am not mixing it as weak as they say. Maybe that is it? Anyone have a better recipe or any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?
  10. I could have written your post. My ds18mos is just like this and has been since birth. He is happy when we go outside or read a book or something else to entertain him but will not entertain himself at all. He throws tatrums constantly. If he is not on my hip then he is into something and when I get him out of what ever it is then the tantrum begins. My first three were never like this. He doesn't want me to cook dinner or clean the house unless I hold him while doing it. Scooling is a nightmare. He climbs all over me and the table and throws tantrums because he can't have pencils or tear up papers or my drink. I have tried every toy in the stores and have even let him play in water beside me. Nothing works for more than 2 minutes. People think he is not disciplined but he has always been this way. Under 15 months we sat on the couch and nursed all the time. Now even though he still nurses he just constantly tries to get into everything and then when I stop him he throws a fit forever! I have had to get up 10 times while writing this to chase him. The only thing I can do right now is put a baby gate at his room door and put him in his room when he throws a fit and then ignore him until he calms down. I also use it for a 1 minute time out for when he won't listen. :grouphug: because I know what you are going through. :lurk5: Watching this thread for ideas.
  11. I am currently nursing my youngest ds18mos. I don't plan on weaning anytime soon. Seeing all of these posts is so encouraging. I don't have much support in my area for extended nursing. That includes my doctor and my dh. My dh feels that it takes up a lot of my time but I enjoy it.
  12. I own 1 pair of flip-flops for the summer. For the winter I have 1 pair of cowboy boots and a pair of deck shoes. I have 1 pair of dress shoes for church. Seems like the kids always need shoes so no money left for me.
  13. We just started doing this. We get ours from a neighbor. He won't take any money but uses a lot of sugar for his bees and their honey so when we get a gallon we always leave a five pound bag of sugar at his place. It comes out to about 2.75 per gallon. He usually gives us fresh eggs too.
