  1. I recently read that the ulcers can occur after antibiotic when there is a gut issue, whereas some people have yeast infections after antibiotic. If that is the case for you, probiotics 3x a day might also help you when you have antibiotics. And the doctor can also give you an antifungal prescription.
  2. Thanks to dh, my kids and the neighborhood kids have discovered the games Jailbreak and Kick the Can and have been playing them till dark every night for weeks. Even the college-aged neighbor girl joined in when she was home. This is a huge change for this neighborhood and I am thrilled. Now they all call begging to play as early as they can. Do you all know other games we can teach them that they might all enjoy together outside, no matter what their age range? The youngest is 7.
  3. This year I ordered a Norwex cloth and an Ecloth and my kids and I tested them. All of us greatly preferred the Norwex. Now I need to buy another because one of us is using it when others want to use it. I have a squeegee in the shower and use it after every shower. I've thought about hanging a norwex drying cloth in there. But the expense has stopped me. Has anyone tried this? I cleaned the shower with the solution of half vinegar, half blue dawn, squirted all over the shower and left for hours. It worked like a charm! I was amazed. I need to buy a ketchup bottle to squirt it on with. I used a windex bottle and my hand hurt after squirting enough times to cover the whole shower! I use todayschores.com for my kids' chore schedules. It isn't perfect, but works great for us. The guy who wrote it will add features if you ask. It is free. This has been a huge help in this house! Oh - I finally have a system to save receipts: I have 12 folders, one for each month, that hang in the file cabinet. As I do paperwork, I file any receipts that I need to save. At the end of the year, I go through these files and toss all of those for things I now can't return or won't return. I write a master list on cardstock of what items I have receipts for, staple it to the front of a file folder with RECEIPTS YEAR--- on it, and file it away and reuse the months' files.
  4. We have one of these too. Can you give treats for on time plus consequence for not? My sister starts her day with candy for those on time. lol. We don't eat candy per se, but I'm all for ghirardelli dark chocolate chips for anyone in the school room on time!
  5. We bought a netipot. Put in hardwood floors. And began taking dhist. We also changed our diet considerably as we read that environmental allergies stem from gut issues and food sensitivities. We greatly reduced our sugar intake, began ordering honey locally, eliminated gluten except as a treat, and switched to organic dairy bc/ raw dairy isn't available in our state. The dhist has been quite helpful. We were using expensive filters. Our hvac man said to switch to the cheapest filters and switch them at least once a month. He says it is the time factor as much as anything that matters. We added a reminder to our calendar to switch them. It is cheaper to buy the cheapest filters and change them weekly than to buy the expensive ones. I hope she gets some relief!
  6. This is interesting as I have never heard of not wearing undies under pj's but my ds10 recently decided he wanted to sleep that way. He says it is more comfortable. So, do you wash pj's daily if you don't wear underwear under them?
  7. D-mannose did the trick for me. I only take it when I think one is coming on. I take it for about 3 days. When I first tried it, I had a full blown UTI that was a reoccurence weeks after my first one ever for which I took antibiotics. Round two I loaded up with D-mannose heavily for about a week before it went away. I got one more and took it at the first tingle. I haven't used it or had any since. I heard that some people take one D-mannose immediately after tea.
  8. We are going in two weeks. We got 40% off of our tickets through the Disney Youth program linked above, but not the homeschool option. Everyone gets one really cool behind the scenes "class" included that my friends raved about after doing this route the past three years. Other friends of ours have RCI and got us a condo deal for $350 for the week with 2 bedrooms that is 15 minutes away. We are super excited!
  9. Have you tried eliminating all dairy from her diet? I have two friends who did this for their kids with incredible success.
  10. I've read that doing the Brain balance exercises can help with this. There are youtube videos for Brain Gym that are the same. I think the reasoning is that their proprioception is off and these help overcome that.
  11. Can you tell me what brand of 5-HTP you use? Thanks!
  12. For a child with ADD, you may want to listen to Dianne Craft's Biology of Behavior and try the brands she has in her online store. I don't buy them from her store as they are much cheaper from amazon or Swansons or drugstore.com. But I follow her protocol for our ds8 and it has really seemed to help when we are faithful. We only started about 2 months ago and were away for a month so just started back faithfully. It seems like the 5HTP has helped a lot. We do a triple dose of fish oil as I've read from many sources that boys in particular need that much. So he takes a regular dose of that three times a day. http://stores.diannecraft.org/nutritional-supplements/
  13. Sometimes arthritis is cause entirely by food sensitivities. if they did a blood IgG test or a food sensitivities diet to figure out if this is true for them, just eliminating that food would remove the arthritis issue. For me, gluten causes my arthritis. If I have none at all, it is gone. This isn't true for everyone though.
  14. Can you bring a cold thing in a cooler? We always put ice in ziplocs on the bottom of the cooler, then the food, then towels folded to fill the top space. It is amazing how long it stays cold.
  15. If so, how long have you done so? How frequently is it rented? Do you ever get long-term renters? Any tips? Our guest room has a king-sized bed and a nightstand and a bench. It is a gorgeous room. But it has no writing desk, no tv, and no dresser. It also doesn't have an attached bathroom. We have 4 children in other rooms on the same floor. Will people still want to rent it? What could we do to make it more appealing? (We don't want to change furniture as this furniture is brand new. We didn't think to rent the room until after we decorated and furnished it.) Thanks for your input!
  16. Whew! I only notified them at the beginning and started to panic a bit as I read this thread!
  17. Interesting. My son is highly visual and also easily frightened by movies. I never put the two together. But perhaps they are linked. Like yours his is excellent at math and average at language arts. I told my husband when ds was 6 months old that I was pretty sure he was incredibly visual because of the way he intensely studied roof lines and shapes and edges. So it has been fun to watch him grow up and see that it is the case. I hope he learns to limit his viewing accordingly. I personally can't watch very scary movies or I won't sleep. I simply avoid them. When ds was 4 he began peeing in sort of hidden places in his room. It took us about a week to realize it was because he was too scared to walk down the hallway alone. He wouldn't go upstairs alone until he was 9 or 10. He also is the one to comment about things he "sees" in the clouds. I'm not worried about it all. I think he'll turn into a really neat person who had better steer clear of scary stuff or he'll need to ask his wife to go upstairs with him. lol.
  18. My mom got hers at Sears. Not sure if they still have them, but try there.
  19. Based on a thread about handwriting that I saved to evernote from WTM forums, I printed this font out and I write the kids' copywork in this font each day and any other things I need to write: http://www.fontsy.com/font_details_22698.html It is LA El2 Schulschriften by Rainer Will Softwareentwicklung Isn't it beautiful?
  20. This summer we bought a lot of pairs of shorts at Goodwill. I cut them a little shorter than they were and took in the seams along the sides so that they were fitted the way girls are wearing their shorts now. They came out great and my girls were thrilled. We didn't want bermudas and didn't want short shorts. I was nervous but figured it was worth the try. I even bought a pair of colored jeans for my nice and made them into skinny jeans. She wore them for a week straight before she let her mom wash them. lol. Last night I cut another niece's bangs into the long bangs people are wearing now. They came out pretty good. I've been learning a new penmanship that I practice as my kids practice theirs. It is so beautiful!
  21. If you have a cell phone that can have apps, another option is to download the free magicjack app. It doesn't use minutes of cell time and you can use it to make outgoing calls. It seems to allocate whatever # is available to you to make the call, not one # all of the time. So you can't give the # out to have others call you. But I use it when wifi is available so that I can call businesses without using my cell minutes.
  22. Sheep feta from TJ's doesn't bother my highly sensitive to egg and dairy son. Goats milk does bother him though.
  23. Bedwetting is commonly related to food intolerance. I think the most common is a dairy intolerance. Google it. Even Goodnites talks about this on their site. If my son (age 8) has a burger which was kept on a plate with burgers with cheese on them, if the cheese run-off gets on his burger it is enough dairy to cause him to wet. He is very sensitive to dairy!
  24. Thanks to all! Skeeterbug - helpful! cjgrubbs - we have one and he LOVES it. he has pulled every single sheet out and we find them everywhere. I should give him 1 sheet per day I guess.
