  1. Ugh. I am new here. And I would almost rather not tell you this -- but we have never done any crafts, lap books, anything (hiding under my shirt tails as I type this!). We are doing SL core 3, early American. Can you tell me what would be the very best of the best resources to get me started on this as easily as possible? My 3 would love this! (11 dd, 8 dd, 5 ds) I looked at the link above and it shows history pockets and bunches of reproducibles by Donald Silver. Would any of those be worthwhile to get me started quickly on some fun to go along with our great reading? Thanks!!! I just started reading the WTM boards last week and have learned SO much already!
  2. My dd(11) has similar issues. Her diagnosis is Fragile X Syndrome. Math learning comes very slowly for her. She has not yet finished gr 3. Rod & Staff might meet your list, however I found that for my dd we had to let her write in the textbooks. They are SO inexpensive that this was not an issue for me. Also, eventually she was unable to recall the difference between +-X/ as her grasp of the concepts was so poor. R&S is fantastic for drill and is scripted, so is great for you as a teacher. No manipulatives. Tons of repitition. It has been our favorite for dd. When she hit the wall in the middle of R&S 3, I found she really did need some further development of concepts and moved to MUS (yes - manipulatives, but at least just one kind). I started her at their lowest level and we moved through it quickly. She still doesn't get the concepts. She just learned to follow the techniques as each new problem came her way. I am not sure it helped. I just gave her a break for math for a bit while we try to figure out if we can now go back to R&S or what is next for us. Hope this is helpul!
  3. my dd is 11 and has similar sounding issues. We did R&S and LOVED it until 3rd gr. All of the sudden she would mix up multiplication and addition and subtraction. It was as if her brain was overloaded with facts and she didn't know how to use them. I switched her to MUS and plugged along. But she just learns the mechanics. She never really catches on to what it all means. What workbooks did you find and like that you were mentioning? Any ideas where I could turn next? thx.
