  1. We have the stick family decals on our back window. So there is my hunting hunting, myself as the gardener, dd9 fisherman(girl), dd5 carrying a purse, dd3 holding a baby doll, ds infant, and our dog. I thought they were very cute and promoted family. Plus it helps me to identify my suburban since there are so many out there that look the same! As for road rage. I think you have to live in a place where there are more than five cars on the road at the same time to encounter that. Although getting behind combines on the highway is annoying.:001_huh:
  2. Mine is up and the link is in the sig. line. Happy WW everyone!!!
  3. Mine is up and the link is in the subject line! I can't wait to browse everyone's!
  4. We bike ride as a family. I can't remember the name of mine but it is an auto bike, the kind that automatically shifts gears (smoothly, I might add). It has a wide seat which is nice for long rides and short ones at that. I do want to look into the gel seats. I have heard those are great! That's too bad your dream bike isn't sold there. That would be my luck, find the good one and still can't have it.:glare:
  5. I have black shutters and a deep red door. I wish I had gone black door for that seamless look. That's my little ole opinion. :)
  6. I have four children and we would love to jump on board with you! We just finished our third year of hs'ing and we have never outsourced anything. I am sad that several of our hs family friends are now doing umbrella, virtual, or public schools. I'll take some of the coffee instead of alcohol or dr. pepper!
  7. Mine is up! It's of the maiden voyage of our bark boat.
  8. We don't have friends come over to play or stay the night one-on-one. Instead we do family activities where we meet with other families and we all visit while the children play. We meet weekly year round at various places and also host weekend get togethers at eachother's homes. This has succeeded in allowing our children to have the opportunity to find friends of all ages to build close bonds with. It has become our family's preference.
  9. We are currently using this (CLE Learning to Read) and it is working wonderfully!
  10. First, welcome to the board. I also live in Oregon. We pulled our daughter out of school after Kindergarten. The first year was all about learning the laws in more depth and discovering what style and curriculum worked for us. It sounds like you have things much more pulled together than I did at that point! My encouraging words would be to just take your time and take it easy. I wanted to fill the day and it isn't necessary, you will only succeed in burning both yourself and your daughter out. I wish I had something more to say. The parents here will hopefully chime in and give more wisdom. Best wishes on your journey!
  11. We have a sadie (dog) and hank and rosie (goats) Enjoy your new kitty and good luck finding a name for it. It can be hard to do!
  12. My oldest has been asking to do this for a year. I put her off because I figured she would be less apt to pay attention in the afternoons. After hearing it works so well I just might give it a try. :o) Glad it went good for you!
  13. I agree with those that said it feels awkward to be called by name by a stranger. It feels forced and insincere. I prefer friendly comments such as "Have a nice day". That shows politeness and leaves me feeling good.
  14. :iagree: Due to the things she has previously said about him and also how Bill keeps putting his thoughts into things (thus the foot in mouth incidents) I think Obama would be foolish to choose her.
  15. We used to be military but have since left active duty and I didn't GG when we were so I am not of much help there. I do know that we only buy 97% lean ground beef and we find it at our local grocery stores and the GG tells you when it is at it's absolute lowest price and you should stock up (buy a lot and freeze it). So that would work for you if you could shop other stores as I don't know they do the commissary, but like mentioned above you could check on the boards at GG and someone would tell you. As for particular brands on things, everything goes on sale at some point and they will let you know when your fav. brands are on sale and you should stock up. Most all major name brands have coupons so you could use those with the best sale (GG tells you when that is) and you could save a ton. For me personally, I have been doing it for three months and it has more than paid for an entire year of membership to the GG. Just Monday my bill was $95, I used coupons and paid $42 cash, plus I walked away with the following free: 3 lg. things of Mayo, 2- 12pks of soda, some bbq sauce and some french bread. It has done wonders for our family's budget. I would say to read the message boards, post questions if needed, and then if the commissary is an optioin or another store close by then do the trial month. It will vary per person on how "good" it is for them. If you are consistent then it works well, but if you don't buy weekly or intend to stock up then it might not be worth the money. That's my 2 cents worth. :)

  17. I agree with the above. My husband read it first after hearing great reviews about it at work and then receiving a copy from a friend. He loved it. I read it and really enjoyed it. I have since bought the book and it has been loaned out since I opened the package it came in. I believe that you have to read it with the understanding that this is his view of a relationship with the Lord and how heaven will be. It opened my eyes to the fact that although I don't consider myself to be legalistic with the bible I do take some things as they are written in the Bible and possibly they aren't meant in the context that I have always perceived them to be in. I think the relationship he describes is beautiful as is heaven in his eyes. It was a wonderful read and I'm glad I was introduced to it. I would love to hear other opinions on this so as you finish the book you will have to write back and let us know :)
  18. I use SOTW with my dd5 and she does great. I don't have the activity guide so I can't comment on that. I read the story to her while she colors pictures that relate to the stories (print off from online sites) and then we do notebooking with it where she narrates the story to me and I write it. I also have her copy one sentence that she dicatated and this is her copy work for the day. She has retained a lot and absolutely loves this. With what you have wrote I would say your son would do good with it. HTH!
  19. I chose B but might be an A. I require the beds to be made, floor to be clean, dresser drawers to be closed. They make beds in the morning, every morning. Then at night they have to clean the room to make sure the floor is clean and dressers drawers are closed. The floor is my touchy one. A few years ago one child had a room so messy that you seriously could not find the floor. And despite clearing it daily it would be that way the next day. So to prove a point I explained about fire safety. That if they were sleeping and the alarm went off they would need to run in the dark to get out of the house- how could they do that with all the clutter? They disagreed so we did a practice test. I made them lay down in the bed, shut off the light, and hit the test button on the fire alarm. I then proceeded to tell them to run across the room. They fell several times on toys and ended up crying over stepping on things that hurt their feet. Needless to say they cleaned the room and we don't have issues anymore with keeping the floor cleared. :)
  20. Ours is {last name} Academy too. We didn't have a name until Barnes and Noble required one for the discount card, lol.
  21. I went looking on his blog and don't see the pictures to compare it to Bill Mahar. Which blog did you see his pic on? I love checking out people's blogs and seeing if they are any resemblance of what I imagine them to be as I read their posts.
  22. We've been using Vocab. Vine and it has helped tremendously in my dd's ability to expand her vocabulary. It is a simple program to use and has been effective for us thus far.
  23. Jean you have a great list of skills that everyone should learn. I enjoyed reading through it and share some similar thoughts with you on this, especially that the skills will never be a waste to learn.
