  1. You have some great links! Thanks for posting this, my blog could use some help, lol! :)
  2. I love that book and the idea of square foot gardening! I used boards for ours and painted the outside of them. I have seen people use the landscaping bricks for the outer portion and then use boards to seperate the square foots. I'll be interested in what others can contribute to this! :)
  3. We did the same thing but with one added step. We put her into zip up pj's, safety pinned the zipper, and then put tape around the safety pin opening. Ours was good at opening the safety pin so we had to do this to protect her and her crib! In the morning just use scissors to cut the tape. It was how we broke her of her "painting". Hope some of this helps!
  4. What fun! I will have to dig some up and post in the morning. And yes, you were an adorable child!
  5. *anj* I love coffee cake and had to try this recipe. I made it this morning and wanted to tell you that it is just as good as you said. It is moist and yummy! Plus it made the house smell oh-so-good for our company that is coming soon. Thanks for posting it!
  6. Krista that was a good link! Here is a quote from it, "I also anticipate tens of thousands of freedom-loving people from all religious persuasions and walks of life to rally to our cause. Why? Because thousands of principled people will not be bullied into voting for the "evil of two lessers" being shoved down our throats by the two major parties." I have to admit that I don't like either of the two parties or their candidates but intended to vote for the lesser of two evils, as I seen it. I struggle with voting for a third party when there isn't hope of them winning when I could be voting for one of the two parties that HOPEFULLY would do better than the other, knowing that ultimately it will come down to one of those two. Now you guys started this and I don't know which to do, continue to vote for one that I don't care for, but like a little more than the other (knowing one will win) or vote for a third party just to show I didn't like the two main options. Thanks for getting me thinking this morning!
  7. :iagree: Realistically it it between two candidates and voting for a third party would be a waste of a vote. You might as well bite the bullet and select between the two- as hard as that can be to do. That way you avoid the worst of the two. That's just my opinion. :)
  8. I have an upcoming 4th grader who will be doing the following: Math: CLE400 Language: CLE 400 (includes grammer, vocab), Vocabulary Vine Reading: from literature list and utilizing library History: SOTW 1 (combining with siblings) Science: CKEB Typing: Mavis Beacon and email penpal Foreign Language: Spanish in 10 min. a day and continue with ASL teaching Music: guitar and piano lessons. Great Composers study. Art Appreciation: Garden of Praise PE: Co-op, hs group sports She also does Keepers of the Faith I think that is it. :)
  9. I usually start to mull over all our options in March, make my orders in April, and then I start to plan the lessons in June. May is my month off, :). I have used homeschool tracker for the past three years for planning and am pleased with it.
  10. Mara, I have a friend that is going through a similar situation with her four children. What she wouldn't give to have a bus pull up and take them away for seven hours a day! Before she makes the final decision to send them to ps she decided to just quit for the year. So in March she closed the books and took a much needed break. Have you thought of taking an extended break and seeing how you feel afterwards? If you are as stressed as it sounds then I am guessing that not much learning is happening so possibly a break would be good for all involved. And my friend is doing better. She still has her bad days when she goes to her room for her own quiet time, but she is feeling better about hs and her children. Also, her husband was able to take on one subject with the kids after work and that not only lightened her load but helped the kids to have a little more respect for her. I do hope that things get better for you and if you decide to put them in ps then I don't think there is any reason for guilt. This isn't a competition to hs for the longest. Take care.
  11. We just start SOTW vol. 1 with my children to do during summer and into their 4th and K year. They love it and I really don't think it is too young. We check additional books out from the library each week to compliment the lessons (not needed just our preference) and I have them select books at their reading levels and it is working great for us. I think it would be fine for your fourth grader.
  12. Congratulations! I can't wait to hear his name. You are an inspiration having him that fast and being up and going so soon- good for you!!!
  13. I was reading this thread since I am in the same boat with Latin. This was a great help. Thanks!
  14. We essentially do year round. We finish the majority Apr. 30th and then do light work until July 6th when we resume all subjects. The light subjects are mostly history and science with some math review mixed in. It works for us.
  15. It's amazing how fast we forget these things, lol!!!
  16. You don't have to have the show, or atleast I didn't see it two out of four times. I wouldn't let that be what decides if you are in labor. Focus on the contractions- the strength and consistency of them. How exciting that you are that close! (I know frustrating from your perspective, sorry).
  17. Every year it downloads really, really slow on their freebie day. I think due to the amount of people trying? Anyone else experience this?
  18. I have this book and thought it was worth recommending.
  19. Mine uses parts of our last name, it's a username I use for most sites. My first name is Lindsey and although I never knew it to be popular I usually can't get it.
  20. I agree with those that said price low! Otherwise you might not sell it and then what, you would most likely have to just give it away. Might as well make a little money so I would suggest pricing low- like 25 cents per article of clothing. And do put clothing in seperate boxes based on sizes, then just label the box. It's easier. Also if you are doing children's clothing and they are a set, safety pin them together and price them a little higher- maybe a dollar a set? And on all non-clothing items I would write a short description on the price tag. In our area there are people that take a dollar tag off something and put it on a ten dollar item just hoping you don't notice. Good luck with your salef!
  21. I like trying to figure out the avatars. I try to relate them to personalities more so than physical likeness. I have to say solamichelle's is the one I relate to physical likeness, it is just a happy, perky cartoon character! :) Mine is pretty obvious, I love reading. I figure if someone wants to see the "real" me then they can look on my attached blog link and see me. So at a glance I am just an avid reader!
  22. We rely on the library. It is convenient to request the books online and then pick them up at the front desk.
  23. :iagree::iagree::iagree:!!! I really enjoyed this book. It was given to my husband by a co-worker that loved it so much he bought four to lend out to friends when his original copy kept being borrowed out. I have since purchased my own copy and already lent it out to others. It has been a controversial book for some, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and gained a lot from it. It put a new perspective on things for me and I am greater for that!
  24. I often wonder what is behind the name and why they chose them. There are some good ones out there :)
  25. I use WEM for the lists of books but don't follow the note taking like it recommends. I do more what Angela does. Read it once to get the basic idea of it and a second time to jot down notes. I couldn't help with the outlining as I don't have a rhyme or reason, it varies from book to book. I'm glad to hear of others following the great book recommendations in WEM though!
