  1. I found a space app called Solar Explorer Lite (you can upgrade but I don't know how much it costs). If you want phonics, number, reading etc games I found the ones by Intellijoy to be rather good. We have Kids ABC Phonics, Kids Learn To Read and Kids Numbers and Math. I paid about $5 to upgrade them from lite versions. There is an app called 123s ABCs handwriting fun which uses the Zaner-Bloser print style. It is by teachersparadise.com. Oh and be careful that you don't use the Samsung Apps to get the apps, I tried some from there and they were all buggy and messed up my phone. Better off with the android market. :)
  2. These stories are so interesting. I first encountered the internet around 96 when I was in Grade 5 at school. I remember it taking such. a. loooooooong. time for the webpage the teacher wanted to show us to load. I didn't start getting into the net fulltime/become addicted until 2001/2002 when my b/f at the time was a complete and utter computer geek. I still have my hotmail account from '02 and I have FB friends who are from my first forum back in '02 too.
  3. My biggest mistake/regret is that I didn't look into homeschooling BEFORE my DD went to school.
  4. Where's the 'all of the above' option?? My dad is a handy man, he'd work on the cars, bits and pieces around the house, build verandas/decks etc, he's an electrician. Very handy indeed and I guess he ingrained in my mind the need to find a guy who CAN do things for himself. And my DH is exactly that :)
  5. My DH is circumcised, our DS is not. I said no way to it before our son was born and hubby didn't care. He's good like that ;) The thought of a father wanting his son to be the same as him 'down there' is bizzare to me. *shrugs* but then everyone is entitled to their own opinions/beliefs etc.
  6. Hmmm, that sounds interesting. One day I'll have to go and investigate all my options at officeworks or something. Thanks :)
  7. Thanks for all the replies ladies. Very much appreciated and you have given me something to think about :)
  8. I just thought of another question. The book talks about making notebooks for each subject and adding paper to the notebooks. Are notebooks just like the 4 ring binders/folders we have in Australia. To me notebooks are the spiral bound notepads.
  9. Early December I placed an order for the TWTM through an online book store and also asked the library to purchase a copy. Guess which copy I am reading. Apparently the book was lost in the mail, so I am having it resent for no extra charge. Today I got the copy from the library. Yay!! Okay the questions: 1. Who else thought when they first read TWTM that they wished they could go back in time and redo the younger years?? I do. 2. When you first implement the suggestions in the book, is it better to go full steam ahead or gradually build up?? I am up to page 111 already and I just have to say a BIG thank you to Susan and her mother Jessie for writing this book. THANK YOU!!!
  10. This thread has made me giggle. I have the tp with the end facing out, I think it is awkward if it hangs against the wall. And I would never change it at someones house because that is just weird.
  11. As the title suggests, I am unsure (most likely unnecessarily) whether it is ok to have DD write in a seperate notebook for the curriculum I have chosen for her, and then have DS do the same when he uses it?? I will need to resell some of the curriculum to help buy the next levels and I am thinking that the better condition the books are in, the better chance I have of a decent sell price/actually selling?? Thoughts please fellow hivers :lurk5:
  12. I would definitetly buy/subscribe to the "Fine Homeschooling" magazine. I prefer print magazines too. What about a section for readers to send in pics of their family enjoying homeschooling?? Have a mini interview with a homeschooling family from around the world??
  13. Thanks for this. I showed hubby and he went and had a look at the router settings. Apparently someone had gotten in and turned off and changed settings!! Dh is now letting his friend know who has the same router as us. Thankyou so much :-)
  14. :smilielol5::smilielol5: Thanks for the laughs. A few years ago, DS and DD were playing in DS bedroom and they were being VERY quiet. *cue ominous music* DH and I went in and found that DS had pooped in his nappy and the said poop was all over the wall and bed. Oh and DS too thanks to his big sister.
  15. I had my friend in the US do this for me a few months back. I used USPS and it took over 3 weeks to get to me (it was supposed to be 6-10 days delivery). Apparently it got stuck in customs in US for a week or so!! The postage was $75 ish for: complete GD Italics program, SM earlybird texts and activities A & B and GWG set 1 and Soaring with spelling set 1) We'll be using fedex next year. It will cost a bit more but I know I'll receive the package in a decent time frame. I just checked the books and you can't reproduce them. I'm going to have DD write in a seperate notebook so I can reuse the program with DS.
