  1. We use Queens for LA and secularize it. Its easy with the LA. We also cheat with LOF. 2. DD is fine. Thank you for asking. They did a CT to be sure, because she has bone development issues, among other delays. The friend called while we were at the ER and left a message. She thanked us for a nice time. She doesn't remember how she got home, or that she fell on DD. My mom did talk to her about seeing the doctor and requesting some tests but whether she does or not, who knows. I will add that my mom DID drop DX and I at the ER and went back to check on the friend, who had been given a ride home by them. My mom drove us because I am disabled and cannot drive.
  3. I am here. I just don't feel the need to justify my actions to a bunch of snarky women :-) I am not insecure like that!
  4. I wondered about some sort of encephalapathy. I know for a fact she is on prozac. Coukd that make the alcohol hit her harder? I don't drink, so I have no clue. I know about encephalapathy because my aunt drank heavy and had it even when she didn't drink anymore, she was loopy.
  5. At this point, I will never speak to her again. I am not sure what my mom will do. But she could have seriously hurt my child and I can't forgive that. I will prsy for her to get help, but that is all I can give.
  6. I don't usually post on this board. The one or two times I have, I have gotten no responses. But I need some advice. Tonight, my mom took pity on a friend of hers and invited her to Mothers Day dinner with us at a local restaurant. We suspected she had a drinking problem but were not sure. Well, after two Vodka Rocks she was drunk on her butt. My kids had NEVER seen that behavior before - in anyone. My mom had to prop her up going down the stairs. My mom basically told her to give us her keys. My kids were standing there wide eyed. The friend said she was fine and started to walk off and she fell down, knocking DD over and landing on top of DD. DD was screaming as my mom and I rolled her off DD. I grabbed DD, who was hysterical and had a bump on her forehead. My mom tried to get her up as I checked DD out. The bump was over DDs hemangioma and she was in pain so I decided to take her to the ER. I told my mom to get in the car, got DD and DS buckled in, and left the friend in the care of two strangers passing by. I told them, rather angrily I think, that she was a drunk and not to let her drive. As we pulled away, more people were trying to get her to stand up. At this point, both kids are crying. DD is fine, thankfully. But both kids went to bed with a lot of questiond that will resurface in the mirning. DD in particular is worried about tge friend. Both kids want to know why she talked that was, why she fell, what does drunk mean, etc... I shelter my kids. I have no idea what to say since they are so young. Does saying "Miss Anne is sick" cut it? Will fhat cause them more worry. Please give me your best advice. My husband is going to go NUTS when the kids tell him tomorrow. He works the night shift and doesn't know yet.
  7. My kids learn so very differently but I plan on trying to use the same with both except for LA where they are Worlds apart. I know I will have to tweak how I teach it, though. I am hoping for the best.
  8. Part of it is he is fully ambitextris, so the "tails" (as he calls them) on some of the letters go different ways, depending on the hand he is using. He also cannot 'get' the lower k, e, and h...
  9. Raybans and Smith are excellent brands. DS actually has a pair of Maui Jims along with his Raybans and DD wears Baby Vaurnets, which I think are discontinued. Peppers are giod. Theyoffer the max UV protection have a good price point, especially for kids.
  10. I saw this just as I came in from covering my newly planted tomatoes since we have a frist expected tonight. It figures!
  11. I started teaching DS D'Nealian style manuscript. It is not working for him. What would be a logical program to transition to - before I screw up his writing for life?
  12. I have K and 1 sitting here and honestly, after reading through them several times (we start in August) and it appears to be way MORE than sampkes or the catalogue makevit appear. It is gentle but extremeley thorough. It give a lot of leeway for expanding on every topic. I will be supplementing math and LA a bit, but I tweak everything anyways.
  13. You can quit! We did. DS was not into it anymore and his retention started going as his desire to do the work waned. We moved to Queens Lang. Lessons and his love of reading is back.
  14. I have OM K sitting here in front of me. It will a great fit for us as a core. The stories, memory work, literature, arts and crafts, music, and movement don't need any tweaking and look very age apprpriate. I will expand on the science with readalouds from the library and we will do our own math (Singapore and LOF) and LA (Queen). I really love the structured flexibilty I am seeing. I printed samples of MBTP and in all honesty it was too easy for both my kids.
  15. I love the look of Essential (and the cost) but DD needs color and busywork. She has a few cognitive delays and fge black and white and straightfowardness would make it ho over her head.
